Articulate Vlish radiojonty Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 I'm not sure if I can remember everything that can/cannot be sold. Some stuff like metal bars or broken swords, you'd think smiths would like that, or that leather merchants would pay a bit more for animal skills, but no - odd! Quote
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Items that aren't sellable are marked as no value when you move a cursor over them to identify them. It beats the old method of everything has value, but some items have too little value to sell them. Quote
Understated Ur-Drakon Earth Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 golden goblets (or something like that) aren't sellable which could mean that gold isn't that valuable except player gets it way too little vs prices (goods and training (will be a while until I can train all chars at Dhorla Woods)). Ineffable Wingbolt Superba Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 In first playthrough for a while I collected - a lot - of iron bars because in Avernum they were valuable 8-) Quote
Understated Ur-Drakon Earth Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 i have all iron bars saved although value is 0 (on selling but buying costs). money is too scarce on Avadon compared to Avernum, everything good costs small fortune but there's no money to buy it. Quote
Ineffable Wingbolt Superba Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Agreed, Avernum was a quicker land ;-) here money isn't that much above all for blessings, 3.000 coins each blessing seems a lot, compared to the dozens of objects one has to collect and sell to earn the sum (quest rewards apart). You can however spare the amount later on and go back (to Vebeaux, to the trainer in Beast woods and so on). Money is there, it is a matter of how patient one is, in this case you are able to buy weapons and blessings collecting nearly every useful item, but collecting slows down the game and may cause frustration. Articulate Vlish radiojonty Posted July 12, 2011 Author Posted July 12, 2011 I guess if you're patient to be a bit of a wheeler dealer, you can note who is dear/cheap and trade accordingly, though is the game economy that sophisticated in terms of buy low sell high?... Quote
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 We're in a depressed economy with a limited amount of loot until the end. At least it's not as bad as Geneforge 1 where the shops could run out of money. Quote

How can it slow you down? If it's valuable, you shove it in your junk bag and sell it later. The game even reminds you what the shortcut key for putting an item directly into your junkbag is right on the inventory screen. Dikiyoba. Quote
Ineffable Wingbolt Superba Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Of course you select valuable objects, point is they are everywhere, not only where you stop to fight and dropped by dead foes. When you need money you have to stop frequently and "G" the areas to look for items, this means you get more valuable objects but the search slows down the game. Quote
Hatchling Cockatrice Quiconque Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 You don't have to do that everywhere, only where you see items on the ground (or on tables or whatever). After a little while playing the game, it gets pretty easy to tell what's an item on the ground and what's just part of the terrain. Quote
Ineffable Wingbolt Superba Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 This is true, with practice and memory :-) I am now able to proceed quicker and in each further playthrough it is easier to put together the money for blessings and weapons; on the other hand (sic) the comparison is with Avernum, where you collect more money than you need and quickly, at least this is what I remember about the previous (great) Spiderweb software game. Radiojonty@ the value of reselled objects is approximately 1/5 of its original value, there's no way to bargain and every merchant buys at the same rate. But, you can buy the same object i.e. a battle crystal at quite different prices from different merchants, and in one situation you can even force the merchant to low down prices. Quote
Kyshakk Koan Skwish-E Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 I overcame the money problem with a little hack I call "Talented Scavenger". I made rocks weigh 1/10 of a lb and be worth 1500 coins. Whenever I see a rock on the ground, my character stuffs it in the junk bag. I hate feeling strapped for cash in a game. The way I see it, my character should be a larger-than-life hero type, and, as such, he should be beyond a lot of mortal limitations. Quote
Easygoing Eyebeast Jerakeen Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Actually, the weight of the rocks is irrelevant. In Avadon, as in other recent Spiderweb games, weight limits don't apply to items in your pack (or junk bag, now). Quote
Ineffable Wingbolt Superba Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 The Talented Scavenger sounds good :-) , for those not skilled with hacking there's a sentence in Avadon Central that does the job. Having started with cheats my playthroughs gradually, say, evolved into experience in order to get money. So I don't say this helps are right or wrong, they are useful when in need, but the game is designed to let players reach its end also without them. Quote

So true, but Talented Scavenger started in Avernum, and I just hadn't figured out the junk bag when I started Avadon. Quote
