Pylon locations, A6 cheats, SDF codes, Script Editing

Recommended Posts

The Windows version (whoo-hoo! wait is over!) of A6 is awesome, best yet...

Love the graphics and the character editor being included with it! smile

Had fun for some minutes just playing with the cursor in menu screen!

Thanks to Master Ackrovan for the detailed list of A6 pylon locations.

Also, all who are helping with the official/undocumented [shift D] cheat console codes.

Here is current list of A6 'cheats' personally tested and working:

editor - pulls up editor screen once activated in main menu

bles - Haste/War Blessing/Shield for whole party. (Try combo with leetbuffz!?)**

leetbuffz - Haste/War Blessing/Shield/Ward of Thoughts/Ward of Steel for whole party

location - Gives X/Y co-ords of lead player (ideal for Pyro's teleporter)**

giveasnack - Cake (food, 7 health) See below post how to use this cheat for 30000 coins

iampoor - Receive 500 coins

iwanttobestronger - Gain experience (less XP given per each use)

ouchouchouch - Heal party

showmeall - Mark all characters on your minimap

dontshowmeall - Deactivates minimap marks

dbugkill - kill all hostiles WARNING! save game before using! If possible (can't save in combat)

retreat far enough to exit combat and save. DON"T use to kill Nociduas!**

imdrained - Restore energy/essence

backtostart - Return to game start location (your quarters)

owmybrains - Removes mental effects on all party members

forgiveme - Same as pleaselikeme but less typing**

pleaselikeme - Erase most crimes, may have to leave and come back later if hostile*

*It appears you may be able to exceed crime tolerance in some

areas by entering [shift D] and pleaselikeme/forgiveme then hit [ENTER]

and get away with more AS LONG AS YOU DON'T do anything else

before hitting [shift D] and entering cheat code. Also may

prevent game over (crimes can end game). Anyone else experience this?

**Undocumented but definately working. 'location' comes in handy for

troubleshooting and maybe Pyro could do another QnD Trainer w/teleport for A6. wink

Does anyone have any working codes that are for A6 not mentioned above?

I have tested the entries above and they work. Thanks to Master Ackrovan, PGLB, & Locmaar

for very helpful input! laugh

Again wanted to say; awesome job Jeff! grin And, hello to anyone who remembers me! smile

Thanks! It's good to be back! (I do drop by between game releases but rarely post then. Most I'd say had been said.)

Hello to Alorael, Nikki, The Ratt, Azuma, Pyro, Slarty, *i, Synergy, Lilith (Thuryl?), Randomizer, Dikiyoba, Leapin' Salmon, Ephesos, Nioca and so many, many others...

All the following towns have pylons, in no particular order.

The Castle

The Castle Food Depot

Gnass

Patricks Tower

Dharmon

Fort Saffron

Mertis

Tower Colony

The Great Portal

Almaria

Cotra

Fort Dranlon

Silvar

The Northern Frontier

Fort Draco

Fort Monastary

Refuge

I never got around to exploring Grindstone, so I don't know if they have one.

iampoor is still in the game. iamweak was renamed to iwanttobestronger (all the Avernum games have this cheat). showmeall is still in the game. exitzone and iloverebels/shapers are obviously not in the game. Those are the only cheats that know for sure if they work or not.

The cheat code 'healmenow' was renamed 'ouchouchouch'. 'imdrained' restores your magical energy instead of 'rechargeme'. 'backtostart' still works, and so does 'giveasnack'.

Two newer (introduced in Avernum 4 or 5) codes are 'leetbuffz', which buffs your entire party, and 'owmybrains', which removes mental effects on all party members.

'clearthisarea' is, again, obviously not in the game.

There isn't one there to my knowledge.

Excellent point! Last played SpidWeb game was Geneforge 5 so a lot of that was memory (much of which is not applicable to A6).

It's really great to be playing a Spid-Web game again! They are a benign addiction (as opposed to Skribbane which of course is slow suicide).

Will edit original post to reflect correct cheat codes as they come in and are tested...

Here's the complete, correct list. Right out of the game:

The Castle (Near Sage Corrlea's Workshop)

Castle Food Depot (South part of wall)

Patrick's Tower (Northern part of Tower)

Gnass (North of the island)

Dharmon (Southeast part of town. Outside, not inside the town)

Almaria (Slightly north of the north wall)

The Great Portal (Just north of Portal Gates)

Fort Remote (Outside east wall)

Western Excavation (Outside gates)

Tower Colony (Just outside North Gates)

Mertis (North of west part of town)

Fort Saffron (South of south gate)

Spire (Southwest of Town)

Silvar (Northeast, outside of walls)

Cotra (In between Cotra's prision and west part of wall)

Fort Dranlon (South of east gates)

Fort Duvno (Outside west wall)

Northern Avernum (East area of Grindstone)

Fort Draco (Northwest part of fort)

Fort Monastery (Northwest part of fort)

Refuge (Northwest of town, near the Quarry)

Missed a few. Formello and Bargha's pylons were destroyed.

I've seen 'cheat codes' all over the Exile, Blades, Nethergate, Geneforge and Avernum forums here for years. Many not in the hint books. Much of what is listed above is memories from playing the earlier games. If you ask for help/hints around here, you'll get them.

Try googling Avernum 4, 5, or 6 cheats and see how many gamer sites have this information. Even walk throughs & trainers not found on SpidWeb.

I've even seen people express concerns that "using cheats is wrong". The bottom line is that Jeff wrote them and left them accessable for those who wish to use them. And believe me, they can sure come in handy and bail you out of losing a lot of game progress!

Rest assured that if anything inappropriate is posted - the members, the mods, global mods, and admins would be right on it! Thanks.

Considering that you can get the hintbooks from A4 onwards online (and quite easily at that), I'd say that worrying about devaluing them is a moot point.

Addit: And here are the cheats printed in the A6 hintbook. As always, press [shift]+[d] (text slightly altered from the hintbook, too):

editor – Brings up the character editor, enabling you to edit your party’s skills/traits/spells.

ouchouchouch – Heals and cures your party

iampoor – Gives the party 500 gold.

imdrained – Recharges all spell energy.

leetbuffz – Stacks several buffs on the party.

owmybrains – Cures any character that is frozen or suffering from a mental effect. This also cures a Death Curse.

backtostart – Returns the party to the Castle Food Depot.

pleaselikeme – Makes all of the areas in the game forget your crimes. If you were hated there, you won’t be after this. Note that certain crimes (stealing artefacts, killing major characters, blah blah blah) won’t be forgotten.

iwanttobestronger – Gives a small amount of exp.

giveasnack – Gives you some cake.

showmeall – Makes all characters (even ones you can't see) appear on your automap.

dontshowmeall – Stops making all characters appear on your automap.

MONEY CHEAT script edit of av6itemschars.txt:

(When script editing ALWAYS make back up 1st!)

begindefineitem 284;

import = 250;

it_name = "Cake";

it_graphic_template = 52;

it_graphic_sheet = 6;

it_which_icon_ground = 8;

it_which_icon_inven = 9;

it_variety = 14;// giveasnack cheat

it_charges = 1;// . . now gives

it_value = 30000;// 30000 coins

begindefineitem 285;

import = 250;// (restores normal kabob)

it_name = "Kabob";

it_which_icon_ground = 10;

it_which_icon_inven = 11;

Easiest to copy/paste lines 284-285 to av6itemschars.txt

Now can type giveasnack and receive 30000 coins any where! Windows path:

C:\Program Files\Spiderweb Software\Avernum 6\Avernum 6 Files\Scripts

Please note: Using these codes is recommended for game replays only. Why? To enjoy full effect of normal 1st play through! Also, trainers are expensive. You'd have to use above money cheat script edit and type 'giveasnack' for 30000 coins for each party member as full advanced training from Correlea alone costs over 115000 coins! The military rank codes combined with coin cheat should be effective with all trainers (unless they have chores for you or want bribes.) If I find anything new I'll update. Questions and ideas from anyone welcome and appreciated. (Flamers feel free to immerse themselves in nearest deep body of water.) tongue

Best way to do this: Save game first! If anything gets uncomfortable, reload saved game or quit without saving. Experiment till comfortable.

Correlea at Castle training cheat (shift + D for cheat console):

SDF 170 0 2 makes Lieutenant for advanced spells

SDF 170 0 0 makes Private again (be sure to do this so you can earn promotions normally later!)

Sergeant Kaye at Fort Remote combat trainer

You're likely a Sergeant by now also so you can't order

her to train you. But use SDF to be Lieutenant, (or even Captain)...

SDF 170 0 2 (or 3)

Don't forget to enter this SDF to return to Sergeant rank.

SDF 170 0 1

Potential (mild) spoilers follow:

SDF codes for rank - promotion given by:

SDF 170 0 0 Private (game start rank)

SDF 170 0 1 Sergeant (Meryhew, Castle)

SDF 170 0 2 Lieutenant (Levitt, Castle Intel)

SDF 170 0 3 Captain (Levitt, Castle Intel)

This won't help you get access to spells or skills before you're supposed to. It will just make them cheaper.

Open a file for a zone that has a trainer in it. The easiest thing to do is just to search for "shop" and look for the phrase "begin_shop_mode".

This will be followed by a description of the shop or trainer and then three numbers, like so: 54,5,0

The middle number sets the prices; the lower the better. A one would be "very reasonable" and a zero would be "extremely cheap". Take your pick. You only have to change the one digit.

It would probably not be worth doing this for regular shops, just trainers, because it would take a while to hunt through all the scripts. But it saves messing with SDFs, which can really screw up your game if you're not careful.

Very good script edit idea! Totally cool! cool

I see what you mean by patience. The only scripts with begin_shop_mode all have ...dlg.txt at end of file name. That gives you 140 possible scripts for trainers. Many are not in towns so while z69Tcastledlg.txt is helpful for Correlea in the Castle, not so good for a hermit combat trainer in the wilds.

z69Tcastledlg.txt breaks down as:

z]one 69 T]own castle dlg] dialog .txt

Example of what you are referring to:

begin_shop_mode("Correlea's Spells",

"Correlea describes a range of simpler magical incantations that might be of value to you.",

2,3,0);

break;

Change 2,3,0 to 2,0,0 for "extremely cheap"...

begintalknode 192;

state = 175;

nextstate = -1;

condition = gf(170,0) >= 2; <======================<< 2 = Lieutenant rank

question = "I would like to learn advanced magic.";

text1 = "You conclude your training.";

code =

begin_shop_mode("Correlea's Spells",

"Correlea describes a range of more powerful magical incantations that might be of value to you.",

3,4,0);

break;

And 3,4,0 to 3,0,0 for "extremely cheap". Awesome!

I tend to use SDF's as opposed to script editing because many people aren't comfortable with editing script files.

You can get in a mess either way, script editing or SDF's. I lean toward careful use of SDF's because they are easier (once someones done all the hard stuff of finding where and how to make them, where to use them and how to reset original values when applicable and documenting clearly). If you think you messed up with an SDF just quit game without saving. Never happened! laugh

I haven't played through game yet, but what I've seen so far leads me to think one script edit for money, and SDF codes (no editing) to juggle rank as needed may get me through with least effort as far as training cheats go. Plus, I've noticed the script #'s don't follow game chronology so I don't want to "spoiler" myself either! rolleyes

Thanks! Excellent! cool

@The Turtle Moves: Thanks again for a very cool idea! I made a subfolder on my desktop, did a search for dlg.txt and copied them all to that folder. (helpful if I get stuck like I did with Nociduas. I put a warning with the cheat code dbugkill. Big sigh of relief for having done a quicksave!)

This works well for me. (old eyes) It also effects the sacs on the ground making them a slightly different shade. Not glaringly obvious, but helpful for spotting. I think I collected about 26 and though quest giver needed less (5) he bought them all. So, a little coin boost as well...

Turn live Chitrach Egg Sacs pale green, leave empty (broken husk) sacs pale tan (script edit av6itemschars.txt):

begindefineitem 481;

import = 260;

it_name = "Chitrach Egg Sac";

it_graphic_template = 51;

it_graphic_sheet = 5;

it_which_icon_ground = 7;

it_which_icon_inven = 8;

it_charges = 1;

it_graphic_coloradj = 4;// change color pale green

begindefineitem 482;

it_name = "Broken Bit of Husk";

it_graphic_coloradj = 0;// restore color pale tan

BACKUP then open av6itemschars.txt copy and paste the following:

begindefineitem 210;

it_name = "Tools";

it_graphic_sheet = 2;

it_which_icon_ground = 10;

it_which_icon_inven = 11;

it_extra_description = 26;

it_value = 20;

it_charges = 1;// stax line added

begindefineitem 211;

it_name = "Basket";

it_graphic_sheet = 8;

it_which_icon_ground = 0;

it_which_icon_inven = 1;

it_extra_description = -1;

it_value = 1

it_charges = 0;// no stax line added

begindefineitem 212;

it_name = "Research Notes";

it_graphic_template = 52;

it_graphic_sheet = 0;

it_which_icon_ground = 8;

it_which_icon_inven = 9;

it_charges = 1;// restore stax

it_value = 50;

it_extra_description = 6;

begindefineitem 213;

it_name = "Incense";

it_graphic_sheet = 2;

it_which_icon_ground = 10;

it_which_icon_inven = 11;

// it_charges = 0; stax

it_value = 30;

it_extra_description = -1;

begindefineitem 214;

import = 5;// added mod crystal

it_name = "Flawless Crystal";

// it_graphic_sheet = 3;

// it_which_icon_ground = 4;

// it_which_icon_inven = 5;

// it_charges = 1;

it_value = 200;

// it_extra_description = 5;

it_graphic_coloradj = 8;// 8 clear added mod crystal

begindefineitem 215;

import = 213;// added to restore

it_name = "Lab Equipment";

it_graphic_sheet = 1;

it_which_icon_ground = 6;

it_which_icon_inven = 7;

it_charges = 1;

it_value = 70;

it_extra_description = 27;

it_weight = 30;

it_charges = 1;// stax line added

it_graphic_coloradj = 3;// makes greens blues vs reds greens of alchemical

begindefineitem 216;

it_which_icon_ground = 4;

it_which_icon_inven = 5;

begindefineitem 217;

it_name = "Lamp";

it_graphic_sheet = 0;

it_which_icon_ground = 2;

it_which_icon_inven = 3;

it_value = 3;

it_ability = 238;

it_level = 20;

it_extra_description = -1;

it_graphic_coloradj = 0;// restore color

As noted in the remarks this does a color change between alchemical and lab items. They use the same icons and colors so this seems to compliment differences and doesn't make you wonder what's the difference. Also makes stackable to save slots in inventory.

Makes Flawless Crystal look like a crystal, but clear. ''Flawless...''

BACKUP av6itemschars.txt (as usual)

Paste over items 284 and 285.

begindefineitem 284;

import = 220;

it_name = "HAX";

it_ability = 223;

it_value = 0;

it_level = 3;

it_which_icon_ground = 2;

it_which_icon_inven = 3;

it_graphic_coloradj = 0;

begindefineitem 285;

import = 250;// (normal kabob)

it_name = "Kabob";

it_which_icon_ground = 10;

it_which_icon_inven = 11;

I like it! laugh With some minor scripting you can also get specific items* such as:

begindefineitem 485;

import = 120;

it_name = "Scroll - Return Life";

or any other item that way. Very good one. cool

Cheats like these would be so very useful - but are not real. Are there equivalent cheat words that work?

Also, is there a cheat that can resurrect a dead character?
