Kyshakk Koan Erika Maroonmark
In Exile 2 and 3, when you go through a door, it opens. In Avernum, you can close them up again so that if you want to steal something from John Q. Public, you can without anyone seeing you. In Exile, looking at the door doesn't work like it does in Avernum– is it possible to close them?
Unflappable Drayk John S
Try the "Use" button.
Well-Actually War Trall Cairo Jim
Doesn't the 'look' button work as well?
Unflappable Drayk Princess Ruth
No, in Exile you have to "use" the door to close it.

Hatchling Cockatrice Alorael at Large
To be fair, you are saving the world (or at least Avernum) from certain doom. The least they owe you is everything but the kitchen sink. —Alorael, who has had minimal luck with extracting the clothes from their back. Kyshakk Koan Erika Maroonmark
Ah! Thank you! (I had so much trouble getting everyone pants at the beginning of the game, since I would have had to steal them but didn't know how. XD)
Well-Actually War Trall Micawber
From memory, the bandit forts at the beginning of each game usually have a few pairs of pants lying around.

Rotghroth Rhapsody Grain of Salt
Better than wearing no pants...
Unflappable Drayk John S
I dunno about that.
Easygoing Eyebeast ben4808
Eh, it's obviously ethical enough. It's a game. Jeff probably put the stuff on there knowing you were going to steal it. But there's still my brother who won't do it because of ethics.
Well-Actually War Trall BainIhrno
I didn't steal things because of ethics for a while when I first played the Exile games. I eventually realized this really was just a game. However, I found that most stuff that you can get away with stealing is generally garbage - almost everything in BoE is, and most items in E3 are, in my opinion. Haven't really seen most of E2's treasures. Sure, you can make some money, but I find stealing low-value items a waste of time - I find it easier to kill some monsters, and pick their treasure up. EDIT: Also, does something actually happen in E3 if everyone has pants and shirts. If so, I missed it.

Well-Actually War Trall BainIhrno
Maybe he thinks killing monsters are okay because they're evil, but the townspeople are innocent. Well, at least that's how I thought of it back when I was eleven.

Well-Actually War Trall BainIhrno
Well, it's not like I thought rationally in games when I was eleven. Now, ethics in games don't matter to me. But really, Ben will have to speak for his brother, not me.
Easygoing Eyebeast Zeviz
There are some BoE scenarios (I think later works by Alcritas are among them) where breaking into people's houses decreases your reputation, and bad reputataion not only makes things harder for you, but effects the ending as well. No, you need to kill monsters. He just doesn't steal stuff. But like Bain said, there's not that much good stuff to steal anyway.

Hatchling Cockatrice Lilith
Taking exactly 1 less point of damage per hit isn't exactly anything to write home about.
Hatchling Cockatrice Mea Tulpa
In Exile, though, it's rather significant, since the minimum armor damage stacks. It's a whole lot better to wear six pieces of armor that protect from 1-1 damage, than one piece that protects from 1-10. Also, don't forget that in E1 and E2, nobody wore pants. It still can be agued as worth it, though, especially because pants are common and in most cases free. It's like switching your Iron Broadsword for an Iron Wave Blade, even though the wave blade is only one damage point better.
Hatchling Cockatrice Mea Tulpa
Except, of course, that the pants are guaranteed to reduce every hit by 1 damage, whereas changing blades just increases one end of your damage range by 1, for an average damage increase of half a point. Pants are better than wave blades!
Hatchling Cockatrice Alorael at Large
In fact, I'd go so far as to say that no adventurer should leave home without them! —Alorael, who can go further. No one should ever leave home without pants! (Other items occupying the same slot are acceptable.)
Easygoing Eyebeast ben4808
And on a side note, I wonder why Jeff couldn't make armored pants to go with the chain mail. Avernum V idea, maybe?
Understated Ur-Drakon Tyranicus
Have you not played Avernum 4, Ben? It has vambraces, which essentially are armored pants.
Well-Actually War Trall Dolphin
Ah, my beloved pants of power. I'll wear no pants before bandit pants.
