1. Aww...you won't finish the Crypt . Man and the best item in the game was awaiting you too. Well, I won't spoil what's farther in, just in case you may want to retry the daunting task. I forget how I managed with a Guardian, but it was just as painful. Nice try Chessrook. ~RainbowDashRadical
2. I had decided to play Geneforge 1 as an Agent, because never before have I played as an Agent in G1. I finished, and well, I'm don't really know what to say. She is very, very powerful in the end game, and I mean REALLY powerful. Let me discuss my strategy. So I fired up the game, and raised my Spellcraft to around 7, then started raising Intelligence up, and that was really my only focus for the rest of the game... There was no need to put any points into combat, as there are plenty of points available, like Swan of the Awakened, the woodsman of Pentil, and also many canisters scattered around. And as for General skills, well because you can buy them for money and there are a few items that help with it, I only raised them by 4 points each. And then let myself gain them naturally through canisters or books. And then bought the rest with money. So the only things I sent skill points on were Spellcraft, magical skills like Battle, Mental and Blessing, and then Int. All the rest came naturally through either books or Canisters. Now here is the kicker...its possible to get an Agents Magic Shaping to 3 which enables you to make Terror Vlish and Glaaks, without spending skill points So by the time I was heading to Kazg I thought to myself, "Hmm...if I could get Terror Vlish, I'd literally be almost untouchable!" Now let me explain how I did this seemingly daunting feat. There are 2 canisters of Vlish you gain by around reaching Kazg, one canister IN Kazg and the other is in the Cyrstal Burrow just past South Bridge. The other canister was in Holding 2. That wasn't too bad since my mechanics were decent, and Searing Orbs made quick work of the turrets So I joined the Takers which gave me the Amulet. That allowed me to freely pass through Sholai lands. Which is important if I plan to get Terror Vlish. Because the only thing I was missing was a Magic Shaping skill of 3. And of course I'm not going to buy a level in that. Those points are better used Elsewhere . So I traveled the Shloai lands, grabbed the canister of Magic Shaping. Then I did what I knew would hurt very badly. I went into the Sealed Labs . And I'll just say, playing the game on Torment being a level 13 Agent, it was not fun. It was marathon of me instantly dying continuously. However, after hundreds of reloads, I managed to do it. And its something I won;t do again . But hey the rewards were great: A nice band that gives you +1 in each stat, and Tek's Dirk which protects me from practically every blow that comes my way. And most importantly, a good boost to my skills, such as, say Magic Shaping . And finally I obtained the last point in Magic Shaping from the tombs. Now I was finally able to make Vlish. And please note, I had not even talked to Masha and the Rebel outside. I hardly had done anything around Kazg. My only determination was to get Terror Vlish, and I actually did it. And because I had high enough Intellgience, I was able to spawn around 2 of them without effecting my essence pool. So after making the 2 terror Vlish, I made my way to there importantly places such as the Icy tunnels which gave me +2 Spellcraft. I went to the Servile warren grabbing good canisters, and also explored much of the Sholai lands. I did not however explore the South Workshop. Because at this point I was eager to try an experiment with my Vlish. I wanted to see if I could kill Trajkov. So I made my way there, (grabbing other skills along the way), greeted him and then prepared myself for battle. This included hasting, blessing, and protection (from the rod). And I'll just say, it was quite comical. Everything my Vlish touched...they terrorized it. None of trajkov's goonies could touch me because the were all scared to death. Not to mention I myself charmed a beta which in turn killed a Drayk. And what was better, is near the end Trajkov himself became filled with terror, so I made quick work of him with my searer balls. The battle was too easy. And I was only level 16!! I'll just say after I did that the game was rather boring. And I was not even halfway done. I would still need to explore the mines, the arena, The wastes, meet Goettsch. And much more. There were at least 30 other areas I hadn't completed. I'm not exactly sure I was supposed to kill Trajkov this early on, but I managed. My advice for an Agent build (in G1 anyway), if you want to get powerful in end game, strive toward making Terror Vlish. Once you do, nothing will touch you, EVER. Its worse when everything is sped up. Because your Vlish get more chances to cast terror. Not to mentioned you yourself could cast terror, or if you want charm something. So yeah, Agent's are most certainly powerful in end game. ~RainbowDashRadical
3. You raised Leadership up higher than you needed to. 15 is waay too much. 12 is like themaximum you need in almost any Geneforge game. . Even mechanics you could've gotten by with lower. 12-12 is good balance for both mechanics and leadership Keep this in mind while playing Geneforge 2. With Shaper crypt, basically there is an endless stream of monster. So they never stop spawning no matter how many you kill. However, it is your ultimate source of experience since the monsters give nice experience for late game players. All in all, you can call the Shaper Crypt the bonus level of Geneforge . And indeed, the rewards in the "Inner Crypt" is good. Especially since you get the best item in the game.
4. Hello again. Sorry it took me so long to update. Because, well I haven't really gotten that far. Busy on other things, and haven't had much time for Avernum. However, I did managed to kill the entire Bandit Fort. It was quite challenging really. Mainly becuase I'm still adjusting to the different combat system. It is very different indeed from Geneforge. However, I have a good deal of money now, and better armor. Those bandits dropped a lot of stuff. There is one thing I don't like about the "outdoors" part of the game. When you go into combat, and then you finished cleaning up the bad-guys, you have to either pick up the stuff they dropped, or if you don't its gone forever. It kinda sucks too, because I had a full bag on the way to Duvno . Oh well, just gotta keep that in mind for now on. Well, not too much this time, though I will try to have more for you guys the next update. Now, onto the Nephilim Fort. ~RainbowDashRadical
5. You make Gavirila sound so much like a vampire Lol. Awesome. Good luck fighting your way to Trajkov.
6. Hostile effect resistance mean that it does 10% resistance to ALL resistances. That means Fire, Ice, Acid, Posion, Energy, everything... The reflecting shield is definitely useful. Though I am not sure what shield you had equipped. There are better shields. Nice play through .
7. Just thought I'd share this. Its pretty creative in explaining a fictional transition from Geneforge 1 to Genforge 2. And its not mine! I don't take any credit for it.
8. Luck affects many things actually. It gives armor bonuses. Each point of luck raises chance to hit by 1%. And it affects several resistances (though I have no idea which ones) Every 2 points in luck raises armor by 1. And if you talk to Dig you can by points of luck for 500 coins. Geneforge 1 is the only game in the series where you can actually buy points for money. (Go figure). I have once bought all 30 points in it, and it helped a LOT. Oh, and it was once said that luck affects item drops, but that theory was supposedly disproved a while ago. Oh and its totally possible to get past the bridges . You just have to have a good build. I think you should be strong enough at this point. Either way, going through the bridges is a painful process as you have reaper turret, submissions turrets, Mage sholai casting essence orbs at you. And those darn Augmented Sholai. But its very rewarding in the end. ~RainbowDashRadical
9. Okay, I didn't get to far this morning, mainly because there's lots of stuff to do today. However, I managed to talk to more people in Fort Silvar and Fort Duvno. So here are my insights and experiences at both towns (I'm being brief here): I was not too impressed with Fort Silvar. There really wasn't much to do here, other than talk to people and train. And the training...well I was kinda sad to know that I have to pay coins to train my skills. Not to mention that the starting points I would've trained for free. But I "had" to wait . So yeah...that's a a disappointment. Though fortunately Warrick's sister is right here in Silvar, so I turned in that quest. And I even learned something interesting. This strange sword called DemonSlayer. Apparently there's a genuine one out there. No one spoil anything for me, I wouldn't appreciate it. I'd like to discover it myself . Oh, and lastly I talked to Jay. I might recruit him later to see if he has better stats than my starting characters. I didn't have the 100 coins, since i sent all of them buying equipment. Fort Duvno was a bit more interesting, at least i could gather quests here. So that's what I did. I gathered the quests to kill bandits and kill Nephilim. And I talked to people such as the Sage, and the preist, and some merchants. So as of now, I am standing outside the gates of the Bandit Fort. I don't know how many bandits I'll have to kill, but I will kill every single last one . Until next time everyone... If I played that first, I'm afraid I'd never get into the old classics then. Besides, I'm sure it would be a long, looong time before the other 2 are re-written. I might as well play these, since I have all three at hand. ~RainbowDashRadical
10. There's not too many more areas left until you reach the Sholai lands . I wish you luck. Having the Taker amulet of course makes it much easier to travel there. Thus, which is the reason I always milk each sect of their benefits in this game. I usually end up joining the Obeyers in the end, because by that time, I've pissed off the other two sects by killing their leaders . ~RainbowDashRadical
11. Thanks for the link Tyranicus. That helps a lot. And thanks to the guy who made it . Anyway, I will have an update on my progress for you guys by morning. I'm still trying out Geneforge 5 and what not. Its almost done though, and I will just say it was my weakest one...I don;t really know why, I guess I'm not comfortable with the servile . Anyway, thanks for comments everyone. ~RainbowDashRadical
12. Okay, I figured since it was cheap, I'd buy the Avernum Trilogy and play it. Note, I have never played any Avernum game before, even the second Trilogy. So I'm an inexperience player running into an unknown world. My spiderweb adventures have always revolved around Geneforge and the world of the Shapers. So I am quite eager to run into surprises since every Spiderweb game has them. And because this Avernum forum hardly receive attention anymore, I'll go ahead and bring in a little excitement by sharing my experiences as I play along in this "unknown" world of Avernum. We are beginning with Avernum 1. First, I'll start with the character creation: I've decided to start with the default characters instead of making my own custom. The only exception is I changed my Rebel into a Rogue since the rogue has more tool use. I didn't allocate any skill points yet. I will do that later in the game once I've got an idea what its like. So really the only thing I did so far was read the Intro, and explore Fort Avernum. I talked with people, learned more about what the underworld is like, and stole some stuff. Also, I came to the realization that even stealing "one" item gets the entire town mad at you. So i guess its not like Geneforge where you can steal maybe one or two items and people don't mind . Yep, so I know to be careful when I want to be a thief. . Appearantly I have lots more to learn. So at this point, my characters are outside the gates of Fort Avernum getting ready to travel to Silvar. Let us all hope the roads treat up fairly . Until next time everyone. ~RainbowDashRadical P.S. I'd like to mention one more thing. I'm found it quite tedious with the movement with this game. Using the arrow keys is very annoying...it appears the characters are moving diagonally instead of strait. And its hard to walk through doors and stuff. So, I've been using the mouse and even that is hard. as they start walking to fast. Can anyone resolve this problem?
13. Its a necessary area if you want to complete the Servant Mind's crystal collecting quest at the Power Station. Also has lots of Shaper Equipment for the Junkyard serviles, so you get lots of coins. I forget what rewards you get from the servant mind, but I believe they are canisters EDIT: Oh yeah, I remember...there are three canisters you get: Strength, Mass Energize, and Create Battle Alpha. (I actually had to look this up ) In my opinion, its not worth the trouble you go through
14. Do you ever go into the Power Core...I remember last time, that area made me very angry. I had to take break for almost an entire day it made me that angry. I hated that area... . Oh, and thanks for the bonus video
15. Its probably another 80 hours of life . I wish you good luck on your play through of G2. It is my favorite out of the entire series. EDIT: I would like to point a few more things. When starting the game, put points in Parry. Parry is very powerful in this game, and will keep the monster from hitting you . Though it can get a little stale after a while, so it would depend on how easy you want to make it on yourself. Putting 10-14 points in Parry would make the game extremely easy, while putting maybe 8 is adequate. I'm not sure what class you are, but if you are a shaper, I recommend going for magic shaping, and make an army of Vlish. And put points into Mech and Leadership early on. You won't regret it. . Also, one more thing. Take into note that using canisters in this game has a penalty. I think its when you use more than 8 canisters you get an alternate ending. I have never tried it in G2, so I don't know what it is. Though I believe its one of the weaker endings.
16. I utilized that technique and 1 minute later the golems magically blew up. It don't matter now. I'm in the storm plains talking to Sir Alwan.
17. Okay, well I've managed to kill the Makar the assassin. But those Golems were tough. I had to cheat to get by them . Like they kept draining my health so much low.. and I had so many buffs on too. What do I have to do to play this game without cheating. Am I playing the Servile wrong? Perhaps i should lower the difficulty to easy, but doing that seems like cheating too, as I already had to lower the difficulty from Tricky to Normal! Ugh, this play through is definitely one of my weaker ones. ~RainbowDashRadical
18. Alright, thanks for the info Randomizer. I finished G5 with Ghaldring. And even killed a few Shaper council. So now I've decided to replay the game as a Servile. I have never played a Servile before, even on G4. So I need some guidance. I am in the Mera-Tev right now, and I seem to be hitting a wall here on what I should do. Like my servile is having a hard time resisting posion and acid, my clawbugs keep dying all the time. And I always have to run back to town to recharge my health. Heck there are times I had to cheat just to get out of crazy swarms. And I hate cheating! . Maybe I'm just going in area I'm not, or its because I'm not using good strategy. Though I'm not sure how much longer I'm gonna survive, I'm running very low on spores and pods, and I'm low on money to buy more spells from Quothe. Here are my statistics with my servile. Perhaps it can help you guys give me advice: Name: Kevlyn Level 27 Skill Points: 5 Exp. 26262 Next Level: 27000 Health: 385/385 Essence 42/115 Spell Energy: 226/226 Coins: 475 Wearing 48 lbs. Str 10 Dex. 3 Int. 5 End. 8 Melee 7 Missile 2 QA 7 Parry 4 Battle Magic 2 Mental Magic 11 Blessing Magic 2 (I have Cap Kiv, so I usually switch around before battles) Spellcraft 1 Fire Shaping 1 Battle 3 Magic 0 Healing craft 4 (+2 from the samaritian sandals) Leadership 7 Mech 9 Luck 0 And here are the spells i know: Create Fyora 3 Create Roamer 2 Create Thahd 1 Create Clawbug 3. I have been using two plated clawbugs as my companions for this game...and they always die I also feel that I wasted 10 skill points in raising battle shaping to 3 when I knew there were items that could've raised in it the future! Firebolt 3 Burning spray 2 searer 1 ice spray 1 I have never used Battle Magic during this playthrough. Let me know if I should use it... Daze 3 Mindsheild aura 2 Wrack 1 Unlock 2 War blessing Protection Essence Sheld Speed Thorny Aura Minor Heal ( I don't use this anymore now that I have regular Heal) Cure Afflictions Essece Infusion Heal, Group Heal Okay, so I've listed it all, my problems and statistics. So if you guys can give me any advice on what I should do, please do. Thanks. ~RainbowDashRadical
19. Okay, so I've been hoarding a bunch of gems, crystals, and emeralds because I think they are for either a quest or for crafting. Is that what they are for, or am I hoarding these for nothing. I literally have over 5k in gold worth now. Also, I found a Mined crystal near the Medab road, does that have any importance. And what jewelry am I suppose to keep for later enhancement. Please let me know, thanks. ~RainbowDashRadical
20. Chessrook, is it alright if you post maybe 3 at a time instead of 1 or 2. It would make it go by lots fast. Plus I'd love to watch 30 minutes every morning. ~RainbowDashRadical
21. So if I join Ghaldring, I can kill all the Shapers? I should also mentioned I've been playing an addicted canister user. (used at least 10 of them) Does that affect anything with him, or any of the other factions?
22. I figure instead of starting a new topic I'll juts ask the question here, since it something to with Geneforge 5. I just wanted to ask....which Rebel faction would be the most fun to play? Not which faction is the most "optimal" to play, but fun...I preferably want a Faction where I can have awesome power, and can beat up any one I please and strike down anyone who gets in my way . Because in Geneforge I love being the 100% jerk Oh, and I would love a Faction that roots for the end of Shaper rule. ~RainbowDashRadical
23. Awesome, I've never played an actual canister addict playthrough. Sounds like much fun! And yeah, you're LP is definitely the best I've seen on Youtube. I think it even surpassed Mal's LP of G1 (no offense Mal ). Please keep up the good work, and make sure to treat yourself every once and while . ~RainbowDashRaidical
