In Avadon, you can no longer level up once you reach level 30. Without a level cap, you can always level up, eventually making an extremely powerful character, though this takes a lot of time, as the amount of experience needed to level up will increase, or in SWS games, you will earn less xp the higher your level is. Without a level cap, the developer has to balance the game to fit the average level someone would reach by each area, which can take a lot of time. With Avadon's level cap, it is not difficult or very time consuming to reach the cap, so it is generally less time consuming for the players and developer to reach a suitable level to complete the game. Personally, I do NOT like level caps. Games should have an enjoyable combat system, so it wouldn't be bothersome for a player to train their character(s), and it gives room for less-skilled players to become strong enough for what is to come, no matter how bad they are, and I just enjoy being able to always make my character stronger. However, it would be difficult for Jeff to devote the time to balance the game without one, so I wont complain. Edit: Sniper no sniping! Edit again: To add to the topic, I think I agree that Avadon felt a little disappointing. Graphics will never make up for smaller play time, and the small play time made the linearity feel more linear. Don't get me wrong, the game was long enough and it was great fun, well worth the price despite its linearity, but speaking from a strictly relative view, I am disappointed. The point I don't see was that your are the 'only' Hand doing anything. "why is it that convieniantly all other hands are either busy, dead or incompetent?" Jeff addresses this element with Hand Barne, discussing a mission he was on with the player, but it wouldn't hurt to add a few hands that they player couldn't talk to (getting ready for a mission) and possibly have some of them disappear as the game progresses. I never got to rest and so it makes since that the other hands are always busy as well. The player only goes to three distinct locations, and there's obviously many more for the other hands. Other than that, I agree with the other points, such as the skill tree. I don't like having to spend points on skills I don't use for the ones I want. All the lower tier ones should be passive skills that are always useful.
  3. I remember Quennel wasting a good chunk of my life. I repeatedly checked every cell, circling the whole place, even proceeding to check the lower dungeon several times. Eventually I did find out you have to talk to him through the window, but not knowing that really wasted a lot of my time. Very frustrating.

Somewhere in the directory, probably inside of scripts folder inside of data folder. Originally Posted By: Txgangsta Edit: Can I script the title pages? 6. Note: The maps are stored with the other graphics files, including endgame graphics which can spoil some endings. Go to your Geneforge 4 directory and open the data folder. The maps are there as one of the graphics files below the folders. I would give you the file names, but I have to go somewhere soon. For the Western half, go to your Geneforge 5 directory, and open the data folder. Open the Graphics Core folder and look for the map files. If you mean a map with all in-game locations marked, I don't think anyone has screenshoted it.
  7. I think the only one's before you get the athame are the ones in Moritzkri's tower (Recipe book, Krysanth, and one in a bedroom I think), the one upstairs in Avadon and the dungeon in Avadon, and the one in the drake's lair. Oh, and the one in the home of the person who wants the recipe book, thanks edit. There are some in Carsta'arl's fortress but you can get them the third round through after the athame. This is all off memory, might help for someone to check.
  8. There is a way to kill her. You have to in order to proceed toward Carsta'arl. To kill her: Click to reveal.. Look around the grove a bit after it says you feel a new presence and she becomes invulnerable.
  9. Try using a speed potion, it will give you another action per turn. Use a summon aid scroll if you have one, or summon a wolf if playing shaman. Remember to use your items if you really need them, blessing crystals etc.
  10. How is the engine going to be? Is it going to have similarities to the A4 engine, later geneforge, or maybe Avadon's? Does this mean we may see later games running a new engine that supports outdoors, so a new series with outdoors?
  11. If you enjoyed Exile and Avadon, you definitely need to have a go at Jeff's other games. Never got into exile myself, but I've enjoyed all the others. Avernum is like exile with a new engine. Nethergate is a lot of fun, and Jeff put in a lot of effort researching history to make it, but it is one of his worse selling games. The first two games in the Geneforge series are my favorite Spiderweb Software games. Honestly I felt a little disappointed in Avadon, because I didn't like how linear and "hand-holding" it felt, but it is still an amazing game, worth playing without a doubt.
  12. Didn't know there was a spot where you can hit him. Move one character to each wheel and try to move it on their turn. I think you might have to move the farther one first. Once both are turned, the demon will come to you.

  14. No, it allows you to control the direction at which it removes sound. You can chat with someone while listening to music or something, and wont have to worry about noise pollution. It also allows other people to not hear you, if you want to be silent. 30% or europeans experience 55 dB or more of sound at night, more than 30 causes difficulty sleeping, so it can benefit health. You can use it to slower the intensity of sounds so you can still hear things you want to hear, but at a lower volume if needed. Well, don't have time to write an outline for a new product anyway. Edit: Ok, I didn't think I made typos in my first post and I didn't think so in this one either. I think this forum is trying to mess with me. Ill leave the typos there though.
  15. I think you have to tell her you are hunting the beast.
  16. As tempting as laser coffee sounds, I think I am settling with a noise dampening device. Blocks sounds, but doesn't interfere with sounds coming from your direction. Eh, something like that, don't tell me I can just use earplugs or headphones. Problem is now, I need a catchy name for it, and not "Laser Noise Dampener".
  17. Quote: I found that out during American government section of history when my group had to write out a proposed law. We did one to protect whales from being hunted in Illinois (no chance of that happening that far inland). I'm pretty sure that whaling is illegal in Oklahoma. Still trying to brainstorm. Thanks for the help guys.
  18. Speech class is k illing me. Now I need an uninvented product service and I got nothing from brainstorming all week. Need a speech outline by tuesday, don't even have my topic yet. Can anyone spare any good ideas?
  19. AMD > Intel My old AMD PC with AMD Phenom Quad Core also has an extremely cheap integrated card. My brand new PC with intel i5 2.8 GHz has a much higher performance rating and has one of the best integrated cards there is. My new PC gets 30-40 FPS on shooters where my other PC can get 100+, it even can't run minecraft over 4 FPS, well 10 after the update. My old dusty AMD far surpases my New Intel on everything so far. Maybe it could me my drivers, idk, but old and new games alike are much slower on the "faster" intel. Also, I prefer ATI to Nvidia. I recommend 4-8 gigs of ram, DDR3, and an AMD Quad core. Specifics on what you are using it for helps on what hardware you'll need.

    Stolen Totem

"and the effect of the blessing is small enough that it'd be hard to test." It shows your resistances on the skills screen.

Which is generally considered to be the better reward?

Can you only get one of the totem rewards? Which is better? Antje gives some nice stuff including a golden runestone or two, but I never knew what exactly the shaman's blessing was.
  23. Are you also going to make a list of graphic_coloradj effects? I recall someone making a small simple list in the geneforge forum, but I like how you made images for demonstration and you could make it well organized. I always liked the 64 coloradj.

    Medals Help

Medals are supposed to be unobtainable after using cheat codes, are they not? Usage of the experience giving code will still allow you to get the level awards, and I was able to get the award for killing Zephyrine after using cheats to do so. Not sure what else works. Is it only the story-based awards that are affected or what? Edit: Apologies for the double post if it isn't allowed; I didn't remember I had the last post before clicking the new reply button at the top of the page. It isn't in violation of the code of conduct, but is generally frowned though I don't think this one was harmful in any way.
