  1. Ok, so I'm really interested in learning about scripting and programing. Where do I start? What language does Jeff use, and where can I learn it?
  2. Hows about you get to wander around, making creations to do you bidding, but making sure they can't reproduce, and once you all die, chance events and millions of years can give rise to the evolution of new humans!!
  3. Hmm, I have noticed this as well, after hearing DVs praise of bugs. I think that the levels just don't do as much in higher level creations. Sorry, but I come bearing no magic numbers.
  4. Has anyone scripted a line to either type in with shift+D or a line you can insert into a conversation to actually give you your reputation? I think that may help for those who haven't bothered to count their reputation.
  5. Actually, I believe that the shaper variants of the classes have ever so slightly different stats. I can't remember exactly, and I'm going to go look in strategy central, but I believe there is actually a difference. Quote: CLASS ESSENCE SPELL ENERGY HIT POINTS ------------ -------- --------- --------- Guardian 40 + 6/8 20 + 8/8 24 + 0.90 Warrior 10 + 7/8 20 + 8/8 28 + 0.90 Servile 10 + 6/8 16 + 8/8 30 + 0.90 Agent 10 + 7/8 20 + 14/8 20 + 0.75 Infiltrator 10 + 7/8 28 + 14/8 20 + 0.75 Sorceress 10 + 7/8 20 + 14/8 28 + 0.60 Shaper 10 + 8/8 20 + 12/8 20 + 0.60 Lifecrafter 10 + 8/8 28 + 12/8 20 + 0.60 Shock Trooper 10 + 8/8 20 + 14/8 28 + 0.75 Speaks for itself (sorry, the formatting got messed up, but the real one is in strategy central.
  6. Fair enough. I never really considered myself a fantastic gamer, but on the two easiest difficulties, it was fairly simple. However, it really irritates me that the guy is so against having a real plot. Most games these days focus on graphics and such, but it is really nice to get a plot that one can really get into. Today's big games mostly seem to be all about hack'n'slash, with maybe some strategy. I realize i may be a bit biased, but I still think that they guy's bias really made the review seem worse than it should have been.
  7. Yeah, the unbound failed in much of the area. In Mera, you only find them patrolling the zones outside of their fortress, which the retreated to so the shapers wouldn't kill them. Alwan, in the storm plains, decimated the unbound, forcing them back to the drakon strongholds. Taygen... Taygen has no idea what he's doing, so the unbound run a muck through the dera reaches.
  8. First: It is nothing like diablo 2, which is the game I play when not playing geneforge. Geneforge requires a whole different set of skills, whereas Diablo is the original hack n' slash. Second: Who actually dies the first few times through a dungeon? I die maybe 5 times in a game, depending on how risky I take it. This guy has no idea how to play the game well. Third: "Since the mythology of Geneforge is built around the magical Shapers, when selecting a class you’ll want to pick something that has strong shaping abilities. But the Shaper creatures aren’t particularly innovative in terms of gameplay" This guy really has no idea what he's talking about. Fourth: "Simply, there are so many plots, subplots, and characters to keep track of that only dedicated RPG fans won’t be turned off." This guy is a wimpy noob. The complex story line is one of my favorite parts of these games. Fifth: "While the lack of graphical sophistication lends the game to an old school feel, the monotonous environments and unidentifiable characters make it hard to feel attachment to the world." – (See the threads about playing too much Geneforge) Sixth: "With six classes" – Did he not notice the ability to switch to the original three shaper classes? (noob) Well, we all know how wonderful these games are.
  9. Haha, this is funny, but mostly the link from randomizer was totally funny... I personally see geneforge in my dreams every other week. I think thats not so much as to bring about serious concern....
  10. Why not the two from the eastern provinces? They may not be the most powerful/wisest shapers, but i'm not sure about their ideologies. Am I forgetting something from the game?
  11. Ah, thanks, I haven't had *that* much trouble finding levers, but normally, it's easy to know when to look for levers. [EDIT] I found the canister. The first lever is the hardest to find that I have seen, although there are potentially harder ones that I am not aware of (kinda makes sense, doesnt it) and: is there any way to get into the area with the locked door? It seems that it would have a key, but I can't find one.
  12. is it in the back area with the lock that can't be picked?
  13. oh, yes, i vaguely remember the ornk lord, i never really finished gf1, my first time through, years ago, i was such an immature player, and then, going back, I couldnt backshift from the gf4 engine to the gf1 engine, so i cheated and blew through the game in a few hours. anyway, ornks are awesome, I remember being able to create them in earlier games. Are there any ornk canisters in gf5?

Even defenses like mines and turrets aren't inherently wrong. That's worth maintaining if you can divorce if from the warmongering and one-upmanship. Alorael, thank you. The original reason for the drypeak valley experiments was to use to powers of shaping to create a friendly environment, which seems to be the main purpose of shaping up until the time of gf3, with the rebellion. The only reason we don't see this as much is because there is no plot in peace. The shapers have gone to areas that were barren, like the dera reaches, and given them sustainable life. Something to that effect is given when you first enter the dera reaches. Also, in gf2, when you first enter the main areas after the tunnel, you see the good shaping can do. Point: Yes, shaping can be used in war, and too much power corrupts, but shaping has done just as much, if not more, good that bad in the world.
  15. sorry, my mistake I just assumed the rebel reputation made her a slight rebel, I never played her ending
  16. ornk lord?!?! I must have missed it on my first play through. Where is this awesome creature?!
  17. Astoria, despite being a shaper, is considered a rebel. There was a topic on the 5 factions earlier, but here is a brief overview: Click to reveal.. Astoria: Soft rebel, wants to bring a peaceful end between the two sides of the war. requires rebel reputation Trakovites, led by Litalia: self explanatory if you have played GF4, they want to eliminate shaping, but allow fertile creations to live as ordinary animals, require rebel reputaion Drakons, led by Gahldring (sp): they want to totally destroy the shapers, requires rebel reputation Alwan: traditionalist shaper, wants to fight a legitimate war against the rebels and return things to how they used to be, requires loyalist reputation. Taygen: plans to release a magical/chemical agent that would kill all creations, ending the rebel side of the war. Has established creation camps, believing that stricter control will prevent future rebellions. Requires loyalist reputation.
  18. Yes, I used to always kill the ornks in GF1, but never got into it much in this game, although I seem to remember excessive amounts of exp for each kill.
  19. Slarty I really don't think mental resistance is a big issue. I seem to remember in GF1 that any attack directed at your own creation turns them hostile, and I would think that you would get xp even from friendly creations. Anyway, for a shaping character, or any well-built character, taking out a creation with no up-ed stats shouldnt be too hard once you are able to create them.
  20. Really, I must have missed that. Well, stormhold kitchen is accessible to all, and so is the Haven, I must stop by and throw a party!
  21. I have always been a fan of cake, and I managed to find some! Camp West Alpha has some in a house with an (oven?)
  22. Methinks Alorael is thinking about the high level people out there. The problem with betas *is* their low base level, which, logically, would give less xp.
  23. Yes, I have quicksilver chitin on, and I always get 9 AP. Well, despite the nerfs, I still find the speed spell to be a life saver. It helps me to heal twice, or let my betas get in extra hits when taking out those pesky drakons or unbound that can shape.
  24. Sorry to say that I don't know what is wrong, but I have had the same problem as well. Have you tried using speed with your increased action points?
