  1. Save before using a piercing crystal, since some of these barriers only will go away using the dispel barrier spell. The best examples are in the southwest corner of Khora-Vysss Slith Temple, behind Solberg in the East Tower, and under Shafrir's Tower to get into the secret area where he stores ingredients.
  2. Not really unless you have an unfinished quest from Harkin's Landing that you want a reward. The whole town gets ticked off when you off or free their drake.
  3. You'd know if you faced Lysstak for the final time since Jeff made it an interesting fight. If you haven't had an elevator fight against archers, then you missed the area before Lysstak.
  4. Yes. If you don't need the ability in the early part of the game, then wait on using skill points or a canister. So save your game before using a canister and then decide whether you want to keep the result at this time. For most players not being able to use a trainer doesn't make a difference. They are expensive.
  5. One crystal is on the west side of the river with a dragon that wants food. This usually gets missed.
  6. Go around to the wheel in the north gatehouse. Wait until the water changes channels. Go to the southwest through the now dry channel. Fight some more sliths, find a lever to open a secret door, and turn the north wheel, then use the now shorter path to recross the channel. The south wheel reopens the channel if you stay there. Now the channel for the southeast is open. Fight some more sliths. Find a wheel in the southwest part of this area to drain the channel to the west of you. Cross to the southeast and fight to get the key to upstairs. There is a secret door to go back to the southeast gate house if you fail to defeat the slith for the key. Otherwise you can now unlock the door to the main level and explore the Slith Temple. There is also a wheel to drain the channel to the north so you can leave..
  7. I lost 2 on torment, but it's possible. Be fully recharged and buffed before talking. He doesn't really take damage until he summons help. Summon help, slow, acid spray, and try terror since that sometimes works but not as much as it used too. Make sure that your mage stays far away when you use an area attack so that your fighters slow them down if they move to attack the mage. Spread out the damage because they will concentrate on one target if they all aren't hit. It's suppose to be tough.
  8. Lysstak is hiding in the Northern Plateau. To reach him you need to enter the claim run by Merrum and go up the rat infested elevator. Then when you get to the branch for the Sliths you need to go north fighting some bandits. Keep heading north through all those bandits and eventually you reach stair to the upper level and more bandits. You will probably want to go back several times to rejuvenate at the green stone ringed pool. The Slith kidnapped 3 victims are being held underground. You need to land on the shore directly south of Exodus and find a hidden door to their area. Kill lots of sliths, free them, and kill more sliths. To get dispel barrier you need to do a quest for Tiacoura in Tranquility (after you get a passage bracelet) or help a mage in Highground even later. Some barriers only go down to dispel barrier. Synergy's Item list identifies most of them.
  9. Go visit some of the mages to see their opinions about the Anama. The only point to going into that cult is cheaper and earlier access to priest spells. You lose out on everything behind dispel barrier only barriers and that means key crafting ingredients and plenty of wisdom crystals. Joining the Anama means that Mickelbur kills the party of Darkside Loyalists that are waiting with him. The only way to stop the respawning of more behind you is to reach almost to Dervish Tholmen. The extra loot and experience is balanced out by the using of energy potions/elixirs of which there are a limited number and the ingredient of energetic herb is needed for knowledge brews.
  10. There are a few areas that show up on the map that Jeff meant not to be accessed. There are no real levers to open them.
  11. Some of the information you want is available in topics on special abilities. Each game in the series has slightly different results for using special abilities. In the early games you get abilities that you can use once per day while in later games you get special skills before you could train for them when you raise certain skills.
  12. Most of the late appearing messages are tied to standing in a certain spot or your attacks occur before the dexterity of the opponent. These are in most of the games.
  13. The crates and barrels are arranged along the center of the west wall from north to south to change the location that you go to through the portal. I think there are rugs to place them on. If you don't have the right order you have to go back to an earlier save or keep going back through the portals to the puzzle place to reorder them.
  14. The Geneforge games are roughly the same size in number of areas to explore. The first one might be a little smaller. The difference is the number of sides that you can join to see different endings. The first 2 games have the most differences, GF3 has basically 2 endings (shaper or rebel), GF4 has two sides that determine which side you fight on in the final battle and three outcomes for the two sides.
  15. Now go to your secret lab, grab a bottle of gremlin wine, and reread that letter you were writing to X about anvils. You're only relatively crazy.
  16. It happened to me with the Rat Lord's rats in New Harston. It's why you need to sell before rewards.
  17. Geneforge 5 is the best because it still has potential and we haven't seen it for it's flaws.
  18. The Vahnatai that help you move around. First to get them to R-I's fort, then they wait to enter, then they wander downstairs to the doorway, and finally inside. It's possible that they got killed off by the guards and traps, but when I played I went ahead each time to clear the way and make sure they didn't suck up my experience.
  19. Jeff specifically doesn't want you to get the loot (reward items) after killing hiim.
  20. Jeff might have closed the link since the revision has been tested enough.
  21. You might go to Exodus and see the Mayor. Jeff left an out if you've killed Lysstak but can't get the bracelet in Harkin's Landing.
  22. You only need to get the Anama scrolls for the geas to stop working on giving a curse. Delivery can be done after you reach Muck or a later point. I ran once where I got the Anama scrolls and the Radiant prism from Muck before going to see Gladwell, If you don't have Gladwell's geas, then you should be able to get the Anama scrolls later in the game without any problem. Ruth will take something else like letting Tholmen live. Shafrir can release you from the Anama geas so you can steal the scrolls so getting them later isn't a problem.
  23. Never tried it in that order, but it will probably work. Or you can keep them to give to Melanchion and just go kill Gladwell.
  24. Before going upstairs to kill the Slith Horror there is a lever south of that gated room that opens the wall to the hidden passage from upstairs.
