  1. Exile games had invisible monsters that appeared in town walls. I forgot their names, I think was a black shade. You could only hit them by area effect spells and walking into them with a melee attack.

  2. Fire Shaping is the cheapest and easiest Shaping class since you get those canisters earliest in the game. Negative is the damage for fyoras is lower and they are most likely to turn against you if they take damage. I usually upgrade to cryoas and you can use them throughout the game although they lack innate haste, you can still get the spell later to haste them and they have a frost aura that will do damage even if they don't act.

Magic shaping isn't unlil you do the Ruined Schoo to get an artila. Slightly more expensive they do acid attacks and spam those as a area attack. Slightly more frail than other shaping types they may die more often, but you can still get through the game with them. Acid damage in later rounds is based on the target's health, so high health targets will take more damage in later rounds without needing to keep attacking.

Battle shaping is almost all melee attacks and works the worst even with more health and damage per blow. Few area attacks.

  3. Get Leadership to 4 early in the game lets you get some easy experience talking to NPCs in the early game. Next is Mechanics to 5 to unlock doors without using too many living tools and some more experience.

Otherwise pick a Shaping skill and Essence Mastery to get more minions and make then more powerful than you opponents.

  4. A1:EftP remake is the only one where an all spell casting party has trouble on torment because of monsters that can primarily take physical damage and had 95% magic resistance. It might take you some time to get used to not hitting your party, but at the start the only problem is going back to town to regain spell energy. I've done it as a solo character so it is possible.

  5. Quaq Keep was a poor attempt at a D&D novel so it didn't have any of what you mentioned, I mean characters wearing charm bracelets with multisided dice that spun whenever an initiative roll was needed to warn them was ridiculous. The plot took place in a swamp so they were used instead of orcs and goblins.

Lozard men were a generic race that appeared out of the water to attack with tines spears. They weren't fleshed out to the detail Jeff did in his games. However he would have been aware of them from his gaming days.

  6. Cannonball Run (1981) was the first Western movie to star Chinese actor, Jackie Chan, and the Chinese Charlie Chaplin as Japanese racers. In the US the distinction wasn't that great even though they were different cultures. If it wasn't for martial arts movies, they was much influence except the economic fears that Japan would take over.

Jeff was heavily influenced by late night martial art movies as seen by the Monastery of Madness in Exile/Avernum 3.

Up until reaching Kazg, I've been mildly pro-Awakened and have allied with the Awakened (Ellrah is alive), haven't turned in Nabb, etc. But now i'm leaning towards allying with the Takers...

Here's my problem... I killed some Sholai at the Guarded Bridge and have no idea who I killed or how that will affect the game play....

Anyone have any insight on my trajectory with the Takers?

It shouldn't make a difference since you haven't joined. Once you do and get the Amulet it makes a difference.

If you killed the  leader at the Guarded Bridge you can't talk with him and they may be hostile. However you can get around them using another route.

  8. There should be a path to get out however I remember it being very narrow and hard to see until you reached the corner where it changed direction.

Welcome to Spiderweb Software. Please leave any remains sanity at the door. It really will help you. :)

  9. You should do more to differentiate your version from others if all you do is add v and a number. It makes it easier for players to tell which version they are using without having to read through the change information.

I was looking over my back up hard drive and saw I had 4 different versions of the Mac version since the original on a CD-ROM.
