If you are running OS X 10.6.8, you can run the Mac-native version available directly from Spiderweb. The Wineskin bundles from GOG are necessary only for 10.7 and higher. If you send an email to support@spiderwebsoftware.com with your GOG purchase information, Jeff should give you a registration code for the native Mac version.

P.S. I'd like to mention one more thing. I'm found it quite tedious with the movement with this game. Using the arrow keys is very annoying...it appears the characters are moving diagonally instead of strait. And its hard to walk through doors and stuff. So, I've been using the mouse and even that is hard. as they start walking to fast. Can anyone resolve this problem?
You can use this program to change the keyboard behavior, or you can use a keyboard with a numpad. As for mouse movement, your characters move two spaces with a left-click and one space with a right-click. This doesn't apply in the later games. Starting with A2, you move one space with a left-click and look with a right-click.

Also, I was ready for him to go. I may get shot out of a cannon for saying this, but he got really whiny for the last few episodes.
I agree.

Try moving using keypad in A2, you move diagonally, then do the same in A3 and notice the difference. That's why we have our top sticky topic in Avernum first trilogy.
Oh right, in the Windows versions. The Mac versions don't do this. It's worth noting that you can still move in 8 directions if your keyboard has a numpad though.

Congratulations!

The first Avernum trilogy should run just fine on any Windows machine, but they will not run on a modern Mac (OS X 10.7 or later). That said, there is a link in my signature to Winskin bundles of the demo versions of the original Avernum trilogy that will run on newer Macs.I assume I shall enjoy the first Avernum trilogy and they look abouts the same engine so presumably they'll work without a emulator. -
It's good to see you, SMoE. You were the first person to welcome me when I joined Polaris many years ago.

Don't really want to make topic after topic for every question I have, so I'm just going to use this. How do I get past the force field things? The Matt P guide suggests only Romans can but for some reason that seems unlike?
There are several small areas that can be accessed by Roman or Celt parties only.

I like music from many genres, although very little rap or country. My favorite artists include, but are not limited to, Flogging Molly, Guns 'N Roses, Simon & Garfunkel, Regina Spektor, Queen, Billy Joel, the Beatles, the Killers, Postal Service, Dropkick Murphys, and the Guggenheim Grotto.

While I'm thinking about it, is Java regularly used/available on Macs?
Yes. If you launch a Java application and do not have Java installed, OS X installs it for you.

Support for newer operating systems
BoA still works in Windows 8 and OS X 10.8...

You could have simply used BasiliskII on a modern Mac.

At the moment, there is a permissions issue preventing global mods from editing the forum headers. As soon as we get that resolved, we will fix the links.

Nope and no kanji in Firefox's language-list.
Changing the language in Firefox simply changes the language used in Firefox's menus. You need the Japanese character fonts installed. I'm assuming you have Windows XP, as Microsoft installs these fonts by default starting with Windows Vista. Here are the instructions.

Sorry, this is in A2
This should not have happened unless you attacked a non-hostile at some point while in her tower. You can fix it by using the character editor to take yourself out of the town and reset hostile towns.

answer: no.
Actually, the answer is yes. If they are not showing up for you, then your computer does not have the proper fonts for kanji characters installed.

The second setting is to make sure the box that says "Play in full screen window is selected. If it still doesn't take up the whole screen, I honestly don't know what to tell you. Both the Mac and Windows versions take up all the vertical space on three computers that I just tested.Tyranicus- Just to be clear, that is not actually my video. It's just a vid I found that illustrates how the game looks on my Windows 7 based computer. You mentioned two separate settings..I already Switch the resolution (if I don't, the game is the size of a postcard) to get the results you see from the You Tube video. So what is the second setting that needs to be changed to view full screen? Thanks.
Read only error, maybe causing "no space for dos partition" error?

The guide you're linking to is for Windows 95 and not Windows 98. It doesn't specifically say that 98 won't work, but it does say that Windows 95 OSR2.5 will most likely not work because it is basically Windows 98, which implies that 98 will not work either. If you are hell-bent on installing Windows 98 in DOSbox, you may want to try this guide.
