  1. Wands of Alacrity come in handy, as they Haste the whole party with one use. Also, Wands of Succor sometimes are helpful for quick Mass Healing. At least that's how I feel about them. As it has been said, Wands of the Inferno are definitely very useful too.
  2. I have posted a link to your site in the links section of my site. Thank you.
  3. Just to let everyone know, I have deleted my previous BoE web page. Anyway, the new site is in my signature. It doesn't have much to offer yet, but hopefully I'll be able to give it some color later on. Anyway, update your bookmarks and links if you have them.
  4. The Hamlet of Bovill. Apparently something has been causing all the animals around the place to become very aggressive and dangerous. The scenario proceeds as you ask this guy about the attacks, so he suggests a mad animal of some kind could be the cause of the problem, so he sends you out to kill it. However, upon killing the pesky mad creature, it doesn't end the curse. This repeats again, except the second wild animal he tells you to kill actually was the cause of the problem. Then you're done. Combat wise, the scenario wasn't really that difficult. To add some variety to the game he created some other animal monsters besides the usual Cow, Sheep, Wolf and Bear assortment. Although they could have used a custom graphic. Town design was average, and so was the dialogue. There was a bit of an glitch though. Sometimes the second animal you need to kill would not appear in the dungeon it's supposed to be in. I'm not sure if I didn't do something right or if it's completely random when he is supposed to appear in the cave, but that got me a bit frustrated. Overall, it's a short scenario. It doesn't have much in the way of scripting genius and the plot is a bit poorly done, but if you're looking for some time to kill, this scenario should keep you occupied for about 15 minutes. My Rating: [rating]Substandard[/rating]
  5. Wow! First to review. What can I say about this scenario? The plot is that you want to steal some priceless ruby artifact from a town. Unfortunately, you get caught by triggering a trap on the way and are thrown in a prison cell. You are in a dream sequence then, and for some reason the Kool-Aid Man appears. Where on Earth did he come from? After the dream, you then get to escape the cell, and your task is to finally get what you came to the town for. Most of the citizens in town are suspicious of you, except for one blacksmith. He tells you of an escape route from the town, since the main gates are closed. So you steal the ruby, which sets off an alarm. Nobody attacks you yet, but after a while of wandering around looking for keys, some guards finally find you and attack. Beat them, and then you high-tail out of town via the escape tunnel, with your purloined gem in tow. That's basically it. A comment: Upon getting the Ruby identified I noticed it has a value of 30000+ coins. It also had 255 charges of curing Mind Control. Considering I didn't find the ruby's ability to be useful, I sold it and it maxed out my money. I'm not sure if the author intentionally set the item value that high or if it was a typo in the item script. Either way, the fact that you can go from bankrupt to filthy stinking rich by selling one little item was kind of Monty Haul-ish. Overall, was the scenario fun? Sort of. Interesting town/dungeon design? Fair. Dialogue? Nearly nothing. Combat? The fight with the rats in the sewers was a bit hard as it took me three tries to get through it alive, and I was using a party of the recommended level range. Everything else? Substandard. Which is the exact rating I'll give this scenario. My Rating: [rating]Substandard[/rating]
  6. The thing about spambots is that most of the time, the product or service advertised by them is a scam. Even worse though, is when a spambot link leads to a site that installs viruses or other forms of malware on your computer without notifying you. I personally never click on such links because of those two reasons. The stupid fact is though, no matter what you do to stop spambots from making their senseless advertisements on a forum or somewhere else on the web, they still find a way around any sort of anti-spam measures you use. Ban one account for spamming, three more are created. It's truly annoying. Down with spambots and their spam!
  7. Don't forget the one in the Guarded Tunnel that you have to fight in order to get into Blackcrag Fortress.
  8. I like and miss Exile's spell library and system too. It is very fun to experiment with combos of certain spells. Sure, some spells weren't really useful much, but others are used liberally. The spell system is overpowered in the Exile engine. Casting Major Blessing a few times makes you practically immune to physical attacks by monsters because they will never hit you. Not to mention it will boost up your own warriors' damage output. Another spell that can be somewhat overpowered is Slow Group. While monsters with magic resistance/immunity will resist the Slowing effect, it will make all the other enemies (mainly enemy warriors and archers) unable to attack for a round. Then you get a whole bunch of free hits, especially if you combine it with Major Blessing. Some spells like Curse All and Pestilence can penetrate walls. I actually had a good time in the BoE Scenario Doom Moon by casting Pestilence in the main temple. Very effective to weaken some monsters before you even get to them. Another good and very useful spell is Wound. As far as I know, nothing can resist the damage from this spell because it's considered physical. I could go on and on, but I'll wait for others to make their opinions known.
  9. I had a similar issue like this when I first installed A5. Here's a link to my support topic about it: http://www.spiderwebforums.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=173300#Post173300 I hope it helps.
  10. My top favorite BoE scenarios are: Adventurer's Club 1 and 3 At The Gallows Spears Shadow of the Stranger Falling Stars Deadly Goblins The Duke of Rahaxy
  11. I've got one more suggestion. Don't know if it's been made before, but I'll make it. It would be nice if you could remove the "Monster HP Doubling Effect" that occurs if you bring a high level party into a low level scenario. Having to hack and slash through huge walls of HP is not exactly fun.
  12. Actually, Cloud of Blades only exists in A2, A3, and BoA. If you encounter one in A1, melee and missiles are your only options. Some BoA scenario designers actually ban Cloud of Blades in their scenarios because it is ridiculously broken, since the damage scales with level or something like that.
  13. I first heard of this in a topic long ago. Then I decided to test it, and well, yeah. It's probably the most awkward and weird instant kill sequence I've ever seen in any game, including outside of Spiderweb.
  14. Well, in my opinion, I prefer Avernum 1 and 2 over Exile 1 and 2. Then again, I like E3 and A3 equally. Considering you are used to the way the Avernum engine works, you probably would want to play A1-2. I didn't exactly like the way things worked in E1-2. Like for example the dialogue system. That's probably the greatest reason I prefer A1-2 to E1-2. Anyway, if you feel that you prefer the Avernum engine, then play A1-2. If you're feeling retro though and want a pure experience, then go with E1-2, It's really your choice. Oh, and I've been waiting to be able to say this: Welcome to Spiderweb Software! Please leave your sanity at the door.
  15. If I recall correctly, you need to cast that Armageddon spell you have in your Special Items list in order to escape from that dungeon. You aren't supposed to kill the dragons. Instead, you have to watch where you step to avoid waking the dragons up while they are asleep. You can find out where it's safe to step if you read the walkthrough.
  16. I think the Orb of Thralni is stolen by the Cult of the Sacred Item after you end the Troglodyte and Hill Giant plagues. Unfortunately, you can't do that in the demo.
  17. Melanchion is one tough cookie. I'm playing on Easy, and it still took over 10 attempts before I beat him. Anyway, before I started attacking I did all the standard buffs, including Ward of Elements and Cloak of the Arcane. Everyone drank Invulnerability Elixirs. Wands of Alacrity or Speed Burst scrolls are very important too. Once I got all the buffs up, I began my assault. I had my melee fighter attack Melanchion with the Shield Breaker battle discipline. (Shield Breaker is pretty much a staple for most fights.) My archer attacked and used Mighty Blow. After that, I basically just spammed Smite with my two spellcasters. I had my priest use Mighty Blow, which when combined with the weakening effect of Shield Breaker, the power boost from Cloak of the Arcane, and the damage boost from using Mighty Blow, each Smite spell did over 300 damage! To repeatedly use Mighty Blow Smite attacks, I stocked up on Curing Elixirs to cure the fatigue. I also had my mage use Slow and Spray Acid on the beast. If the party gets hit with Melanchion's flame aura attack, my priest pauses attacking and immediately uses Divine Restoration to heal the party completely. The death curse isn't much of a threat, as long as you stay healed and Invulnerable. One odd thing I noticed is that he would always put the death curse on my priest. Perhaps Melanchion noticed that she was the backbone to my entire strategy. If she dies, I won't survive for much longer. Before the fight ended my melee fighter was struck down. Fortunately the three remaining members stood their ground and won the battle for me. Once Melanchion was dead, I had to take out his summoned demons, which were a bit annoying with their Terror attacks. Fortunately they didn't have much health and fell quickly. This was mainly just a test to see if I could beat him, and I did. I had a grand time looting everything around Melanchion's Keep, including his treasure room. I guess he is worth killing if you can do it. Of course, I was on Easy difficulty. You'll probably have a even tougher time taking him out on Hard and Torment. On my way out I noticed another interesting oddity. Even though I killed Melanchion and everyone else at his keep, the guards and sentinels on the road to and from his lairs didn't attack me. Call me even more surprised that Refuge didn't turn hostile either, and neither did the guards at the gate into his lands. I guess I can attack them if I want to, but I didn't. I also decided to try and kill him in A5. He was much easier though in that game. I got him on my first try. Same strategy as A6, buffs, Invulnerability potions, Battle Disciplines, and Smite abuse. That's pretty much it. Wow, this is a long post. I guess I'll stop here.
  18. I took a look at the scenario in the OBoE editor and I found the problem after looking at it for a few minutes. There is an unnecessary "Major Event Has Occurred" Node at the beginning of special node 2 in town 5. In town 6, Morris is set to disappear when the event is triggered. I changed the special node in town 5 in the meeting room to start with node 2, which seems correct. Thanks for the help anyway.
  19. Okay, so I'm playing The Foolish Giant. A problem I've noticed is when you return to Putuam after seeing Morris. I get the mission to take down the wizard. Then it tells me I should get Morris to help out, but when I returned to his hut, he was not there. I'm following the walkthrough and this is where you are supposed to speak with him. I think might be another bug with OBoE and legacy scenarios or maybe I'm missing something. What's wrong here?
  20. I think you are better off reloading a previous save if a character in your party dies. There is a risk with using Raise Dead or Resurrect to revive fallen comrades if your priest isn't skilled enough. If your priest isn't skilled enough, there is a chance that the spell will turn the character to dust, making it much harder to revive him/her from the dead. The chance of this happening is less if you use Resurrect, but it can still happen. Not only that, but using those spells also reduces the character's core stats by 1. Also, I don't think Destone requires Resurrection Balm in order to cast.
  21. I took a look at the introduction, and it looks pretty good. I support this as well. It might even encourage some new designers to make scenarios for BoA. (Like myself.) You should continue working on it. Oh, and Blades is never going to be dead. Just as long we don't let it die.
  22. I still play BoE all the time. I designed several scenarios, although only the last two are probably decent. Plenty of BoE players would like new scenarios, as would I. I actually was working on another scenario before I started the last one I made, but it was lost to hard drive failure. Not sure whether I will start working on it again or should just make a different one. I haven't touched the scenario editor for quite a long while. Hopefully I'll dust off the BoE scenario editor and make something new soon. It might be small though. Anyway, there's still plenty of players who prefer BoE over BoA. After all, BoE is now open source, so anyone can just pick up a copy for free. I really like the fact that BoE has many scenarios out that are pretty good. There's always room for more.
  23. Well, I beat most of the Avernum series at least once or twice, but I was playing on Easy/Casual difficulty. I would like to know the differences between each difficulty setting. Just how much more endurance and strength do enemies have on each of the difficulty levels? I want to start a new playthrough and I'm wondering what difficulty level I should set the game to. Oh, and I don't want to play on Easy/Casual again. Also, I don't want to resort to cheating. I would like information from both the first and second Avernum trilogies. If there is a difference between how difficulty settings work between them. Thanks in advance.
  24. Oh, it's there. Here's the link: http://www.truesite4blades.com/Home/TrueSite4Blades/AdvC.html
  25. I found AC1's plot to be quite interesting as well. It's just that it takes a while for the main story to start. I do agree with frendlyspider though, I don't like it when there is no clue on what to do to advance the plot either. That's why I love walkthroughs for scenarios. They tell you exactly what to do and when to do it. Jewel's TrueSite for Blades has all known guides to BoE scenarios. It just so happens that there is an AC1 walkthrough there. It's how I finally managed to beat AC1 myself, a long while ago.
