Tenderfoot Thahd (2/17)

  1. Well, that is not the answer I was hoping for, but the effort is appreciated. Thanks.
  2. Trying out the GF games. Played 1 and some of 2. Have decided that walking around is just uggggh too slow. I have got to, got to, GOT TO move around faster if I'm going to play more of these games. If this means always playing as a solo Agent and distorting game balance somewhat so be it. I found on the forum people talking about the cr_walk_speed var in gfNitemschars.txt. Sounds like the thing I need. It works in GF 3, hurray! The setting exists in GF4, but it doesn't actually change my walking speed. I did start a new game after altering the setting as I've seen people suggest. In GF5 I don't even see the cr_walk_speed setting in the template gf5itemschars.txt. I tried putting it in anyway, hoping it would get picked up, No effect. Does anyone know what I need to do to adjust the walk speed for my char in GF4 and GF5? This is a Steam based download, if that makes a difference (I've seen this matter in some games).
  3. This is kinda related. There are at least two giant camps nearish to Dranlon. One looks like a proper fort with some ogres outside on the mainland east of Dranlon. One is, if I recall correctly, across the strait and underground where the slith mage retreated? Any harm in trying these guys out? I guess I'm a little paranoid about borking a quest.
  4. Thanks guys. I definitely got the Dranlon quest, just don't see it any more. I'll just talk to people in town and do the area normally. While we're "in the area", it looks like there's quite a bit of interesting stuff between Cotra and Dralon. Is there anything I should make a point of leaving alone for now because it will mess up a quest later?
  5. I used to have an Aid Fort Dranlon quest. I finished the Cotra quest (fun!) and visited Levitt for my pat on the back. Was told to go get on a boat, and my Dralon quest was gone. I visited Dranlon on the way and it seems rather likely that the Dralon parts will be beneath me by the time I finish the new Formello quest. I'm not sure I'll see the "major" Dranlon quest again at all. I am sorely tempted to just do Dralon now and hope I'll get credit for it later after Formello. Will I lose out on anything important going this route? I could restore an old game before I finished Cotra and avoid reporting to Levitt, but that would undo quite a bit of adventuring, unless I'm missing something truly awesome I'd rather not.
  6. Thanks guys. Sounds like I can sell quite a few of the ones that have been accumulating (and I've not been using anyway). !Trenton, I got the radiating shovel and dug up the chest, but from something Gargamel said, I'm pretty sure I actually need the Electronic Lockpicks Mark II, not the lake key. But Lord British's Castle doesn't show up on my list of portal destinations yet! Help!
  7. I'm getting overloaded. I have a tendency to hoard consumables in games like this, but I'm pretty sure the value of wands is only going to decline as the game goes on. I've decided the fiery wand isn't worth keeping any more. I still have disruption, terror, sparkling, null, inferno wands. I really haven't experimented much with these. Any suggestions on ones that are good now (I just started Silvar), ones that are good for the whole game?
  8. Thanks, guys. Y? you are right that I left a lot of stuff undone over there. I'll take your advice and clean up there first.
  9. I've just gotten to the Abyss and I'm finding the combat tedious. Seems like even the filler fights I'm needing to really throw oomph into. I'm stumbling into random encounters and reloading because I just don't want to deal with another 10 round combat right now. If I drop the difficulty down to Casual, does that nerf my expees or otherwise set me up for problems later if I wanted to bump it back to Normal?
  10. Thanks guys. I'll at least try to beat the shade, though I've gotten smushed by the ghost in the mine that the retiring prospector sells you the key to, and gotten stomped by the ghosts that pop out when you do Gladwell's first quest. So I'm not too optimistic, we shall see.
  11. Playing Avernum 6 for the first time, enjoying it. I've accumulated a few piercing crystals and tinker's crystals. I could run all over the world and cheat with quicksaves to figure out the best places to use them, but it's quicker to just ask here. I have done 2/3 of Meryhew's original quests, also been sent to the portal/portal tower and completed events with Nichols there. The lower left quadrant is fairly well explored. Any suggestions on what doors and barriers to open? I'm playing with the default party, just with characters renamed, if that makes a difference. Also, and not looking for detailed spoilers here, but should I have gotten any clues by now on where Treviass is? That's the Meryhew quest I haven't really even scratched yet. I'm assuming I just need to wait, but maybe I missed something.
