Tenderfoot Thahd (2/17)

  1. Are these texts combinatorial in any way? Would raiding the sliths and the darkside loyalists give you two sets of texts, and raiding the vahnatai and Bargha give you the other two sets of texts, or would raiding the sliths and Bargha give you any different texts that wouldn't be covered by the two aforementioned options? Do Gladwell's early quests also change the ending, or does it only matter if you go all the way to his last one?
  2. Hey, I've got a quick question about the endings to Avernum 6. I know that the ending differs depending on whether you do fewer than two missions for Melanchion, exactly two, or more than two. However, does it matter which two they are, or do you get the same ending for any two missions you choose for Melanchion? Also, does completing Gladwell's missions and then killing him get you the same ending as ignoring his missions altogether, or is it different? No spoilers please! Thanks!
  3. Well, that blows. What's the justification for that? Wouldn't Gladwell have to have a crystal somewhere containing their souls as well, since that seems to be how it works for the PCs and the girl in the hotel room?
  4. Of course they're hostile, because they're still geased! I am wondering if there is a way to free them. I feel kind of sorry for that woman in the inn who was forced either to take the geas or die. At least I was able to free that other girl in the inn, who did nothing but stare blankly into a wall. Since she didn't have any apparent job Gladwell was making her do, but was simply hanging around listlessly in a bedroom, yet Gladwell apparently valued her enough that he kept her soul crystal fairly close to him, I'm more than a little creeped out by what her "service" to Gladwell probably consisted of........ Is there a way to save the other guys though? This was a big reason for my taking the geas in the first place — I figured that the storyline would eventually lead to my getting revenge on Gladwell and removing the geas, and that it'd probably remove the geas on those other people as well.
  5. Okay, so I just defeated Gladwell and removed the geas. I also managed to find one of the crystals to release one of the enslaved people hanging around outside his keep, but it only freed one of them. Is there a way to free the rest of those poor people? I searched the keep, I can't seem to find any more crystals, although one of the doors I unlocked led to a pedestal surrounded by flawed crystals, but when I try to use the pedestal, it says it's already been smashed.
  6. Well, I beat the game, finishing most of the sidequests as well. And all along the way, I never saw a single aranea. Although I did see several elder aranea both in dungeons and as the result of summoning, not unlike Catweasle. I'm rather skeptical about whether the Aranea monster even exists in Avernum 3's data files. If it does, it's sufficiently hard to get that the guy in Delan who wanted me to get one should have been paying way more than that. Oh, and the job lady turned out to be all right - turns out she just moved after her room was destroyed, and was now working out of the mayor's office. Guess I jumped the gun there. And here I thought the blotch on the floor was the job lady.
  7. That's probably a good idea, except that unfortunately I'm still early enough in the game that the best thing I can get from a summons spell is a goblin. Oh well, I went back to the person who gives out the jobs in Kryzsan and found out that the slimes had apparently eaten away the back wall of the room, and there was a big splotch where the job lady used to be. So this may not be an issue anymore...
  8. Okay, I foolishly took the Kill an Aranea quest from the job board in Kryzsan (sp?) in Avernum 3, having read it too quickly and thinking it was just an "annoying band of aranea in the area harassing the townsfolk, get rid of them" sort of mission. Now I'm sort of stuck, because I can't seem to find any regular aranea anywhere in the game. Does anyone know where I can go to find an aranea fight and finish this mission? Or, failing that, how bad is the punishment for failing to do a quest on time? It says of course that they won't give any more quests for a while - how long is it before you can get them again? Thanks!
