  1. (Because nobody reads the EE talk pages anyhow.) Some of the Five (the archmagi of Avernum, whose actual number is disputed between 4 and 6) have surnames. At least two of them (Erika Redmark and Patrick Padraig) are definitely mentioned in game canon: Quote: Memoirs of Rone the Wizard: In one of the drawers of the desk, you find a leather-bound journal, filled with cramped, scratchy writing. You soon determine that it is the incomplete memoirs of Rone the Wizard. He was cast into Avernum along with two other mages, Erika Redmark and Patrick Padraig, after they were at the wrong end of a political struggle in the Mages' Guild. However, I have at least two more surnames somewhere in my notes (and one is prominently featured on EE). They're not game canon, and I don't even know where they come from. This is why I'm asking. The mages in question (who are the disputed members of the Five) are: - Aimee Kilser (featured on EE) - Linda Yonther (only in my notes) Has anyone else seen these names anywhere that doesn't reference EE, or did I make them up at some point?
  2. I don't know what's happened in the meantime, but the file has now reappeared (it definitely wasn't listed yesterday). Spooky. Does Lynne read this forum under a fake identity?

  5. Oh, I don't know. I had fun playing ZKR, but I realize the style may not appeal to everyone. I normally like more plot and more time for exploration too, but "suck" is a strong term compared to some scenarios out there.
  6. I'm assuming you've played the three scenarios that come with the full version? Because if you decided to skip them, you're missing out on something - especially A Small Rebellion. Besides, after you finish DwtD, your party will be ready for high-level challenges like Bahssikava or Canopy (both masterpieces).
  7. General word of advice: Don't put anything other than ".", "-", "_", letters and numbers in your online file names. If you have the space, best copy these and put them up as well: http://stuff.ermarian.net/ishad-nha/blades/river-and-leaf.zip http://stuff.ermarian.net/ishad-nha/blades/river-and-leaf.tar.gz (.sit would have to wait for someone able to convert your graphics, and willing to buy a proprietary compression utility (or does it come with Macs free?). I know I'm neither.)
  8. Quote: Originally written by Ishad Nha: This will open with the free program 7Zip, as found at: http://www.7-zip.org (Currently there is only a Windows version available.) I have 7zip installed, so do many of the Windows users here. But the point is that 1you don't have to use a format that requires it, because 7zip can also produce a .zip or .tar.gz file (and with a file this small, you're not saving much on compression anyway). At least put up two files so people can pick a format. Especially since you have no custom graphics, there's no excuse not to provide a file Mac users can open. Speaking from experience, there is nothing more annoying than having to install new software to decompress. .rar is named after the sound I make when I encounter it.
  9. I'm not seeing anything on your page. Regardless, 7zip supports tar.gz and zip as well. I suggest you select those when compressing with 7zip, as they are far more prevalent and won't require any additional downloads.
  10. http://groups.google.com . --- But since I'm qualified to answer and have time: It's ugly, but I've seen it work. Brett Bixler's BoA Louvre site has a submission form that relies entirely on client side code. What happens is that you fill out the form, and get redirected to your email client "Compose" window, from where you send the email yourself. This is accomplished by making your form like the following: Code: <form action="mailto:email@address.com?SUBJECT=Web Form Submission">[... HTML input fields]</form> Note that this is very unreliable: It will not work for people who have no local mail client (which surprisingly exist), the submitted data can only be parsed by a human, etc. You're probably better off giving people your email address and telling them what information to include in their manually sent message, since it's more reliable and about as convenient.

  13. Not gaurdian. Seriously, why does everyone keep getting that wrong? Sorry for the superfluous topic; I just couldn't bear it any more.
  14. In that case, the attribution to "Oberon Media" may just be a misfiling error...
  15. Yelling at the mods in caps not to close a topic is not guaranteed to be effective.

The bit about it being possible in theory but not actually feasible was the whole rest of the exploit. We experimented a bit and were able to accomplish a few cool things by accident, but I think we never managed to actually understand how it all worked together. 16th century alchemy, sorta. Also, Laz: Did Lighting work in Mac too? Otherwise, we have a nice balance - Mac players get to reset their automap, Windows players get lighting changes...

*cough* Lazarus has done it, I think. Or was that Nem?
  19. Joining and stealing from the Anama before finishing the Roach plague? The editor might solve that, though...
  20. Well, XP is the final stop for me as far as Windows is concerned. I wouldn't take Vista for free. Yes, computers are getting more powerful, but they aren't meant to be powerful just so the OS can hog all the resources. My idea of an OS is something that runs in the background and controls the hardware with minimal load, and provides a desktop when needed. Leaving the fancy graphics card and CPU to be used by actual applications...
  21. My main expertise is in PHP. I know exactly what you're talking about.
  22. In A4, using archery and returning to town is already cheating in my book. Quote: into a living Making game editors? This is useless advice since it comes from someone who's never produced something that people have paid money for. But I have this hunch that cheat tools are not one of the more profitable areas of programming... :-/
  23. What are you talking about? Edit: No really. The other boards are returning just as many timeouts, blanks and 500s as General.

Fees charged for said media will not be part of or be construed as part of any shareware fees set forth by individual authors. All fees are for production and distribution of the media only. IANAL, but shouldn't a "non-exclusive" qualifier be in both of those clauses? Right now, it sounds almost like only Spiderweb is allowed to publish these derivatives. I know that this doesn't make sense in relation to the rest of the license, but I hear that stating and restating the obvious is the lawyer way...
  25. It's a rather neat tool, but I question the concept a bit. One of the major improvements about BoA scripts (to me) is that I can write out the call I want in a text editor rather than having to navigate and click through about three different menus or dialog windows as in BoE. In fact, one of my wishes for an improved scenario editor is to somehow do away with the Item and Creature selection menus as well. Going through five lists to find that blasted Goblin or Vahnatai is hell. These days, I design towns with both corescendata files open in the editor, and if I need something, I use a text search so I know exactly where to look in the menus.
