Where in the World?

I'm going to try something different. Below are links to fifteen images in Google street view. Your job is to guess the locations of these images. Responses can be as vague as "eastern Europe" or as specific as "1600 Pennsylvania Ave., Washington DC, USA." At some point, I will announce whose guesses were the closest to the actual location. The winner will receive the meaningless approbation of many peers.

This is essentially like GeoGuessr, but not random. No country appears more than once (including overseas territories).

  • One - Far north, not the US.
  • Two - Tropics, country is not entirely in the tropics
  • Three - South America
  • Four - Eastern Europe
  • Five - Europe, but the language is quite a bit different from other European languages.
  • Six - Australia (Aran/Khoth/Memphis Dim Sims)
  • Seven - Country with enforced conscription
  • Eight - Southern US (Edgwyn)
  • Nine - Google street view only covers this country's two largest metropolitan areas.
  • Ten - Southern Africa, but not South Africa (Dikiyoba)
  • Eleven - Guessing the correct country would still be vague
  • Twelve - Porta Delgada, Azores (Edgwyn)
  • Thirteen - Southern Hemisphere
  • Fourteen - On an island
  • Fifteen - Nong Prue, Thailand (Dikiyoba)

Google street view makes every country look exactly the same. I mean, globalization is the real force behind that, but the limited scope that street view has makes the sameness very obvious.

#15 is 3480, Nong Prue, Kanchanaburi, Thailand. Dikiyoba has no idea exactly where that is, but the address is in the photo.

There is really not enough detail in these photos to get very far with this.

1. Western US

2. Tropics

3. Central/South America

4. US MidWest or Western Europe

5. Europe

Without a whole lot more cultural content, we might as well stick to locations like the Great Wall of China, Sydney Opera House, Eifel Tower, etc

I accidentally gave 15 away; I forgot that the paint marking is just a layer on the photo. I made this too hard, after all, in GeoGuessr you can generally see the language on signs and I actively avoided that, sorry! I'll give hints for each place on the list:

One: Not the U.S. It's in the far northern latitudes.

Two: In the tropics (Edgwyn). This country is not entirely in the tropics, though.

Three: South America (Edgwyn)

Four: Europe (Edgwyn). It's actually eastern Europe.

Five: Eupope (Edgwyn). The predominant language here is markedly different from other European languages.

Six: Australia (Aran/Khoth/Memphis Dim Sims). I could not imagine a pick-up like that in the UK. :p

Seven: This is a country with enforced conscription.

Eight: Southern US (Edgwyn)

Nine: Street view only has coverage in this country's two largest metropolitan areas.

Ten: Southern Africa, (Dikiyoba) but not South Africa.

Eleven: Guessing the correct country would still be vague.

Twelve: Porta Delgada, Azores (Edgwyn)

Thirteen: Southern Hemisphere

Fourteen: On an island

Fifteen: Nong Prue, Thailand (Dikiyoba)
