Seasoned Roamer beren terino
My computer has been having power issues, and I need a new one. Only problem is, I don't want to loose my Spiderweb games. I have them on CD, but I was wondering...is there any way to back up the savedgames? I'm only halfway through G5, and I don't want to loose my progress...
Ineffable Wingbolt Øther
Yes. If you are using a mac, then go into your harddrive, search for the G5 saved games, and you will find a folder with them in it. Copy them somewhere, and there you go. Well-Actually War Trall Ishad Nha
No, you will have put them on a CD, flash drive or whatever. Then you can transfer them to the new computer. Edit: No, there is no back up as such so you will have to transfer them manually. Compression reduces them a twentieth of their original size or whatever. Ineffable Wingbolt Øther
Thats what I meant.
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
Mac saves the games in Documents folder. You might want to compress the folder before transfering them to a flash drive.
Seasoned Roamer beren terino
I have a PC, not a mac, and I was planning on transferring the files to a memory stick. Where do I find the files?
Unflappable Drayk Toby-Linn
For the newer games, you can find them in your My Documents folder under Spiderweb Software or the name of the game itself. I believe the older games are found in the My Documents folder as well. I forget where the default save location is for Avernum 1-3. If you can't find them do a search for avernum or geneforge and it will tell you where all the folders are.
Understated Ur-Drakon Earth
A1-A3 stores save games under game-folder but can't remember if on subfolder or not.
Well-Actually War Trall Ishad Nha
Not unless you create such a subfolder and save games into it, which may be a good idea.
Unflappable Drayk Toby-Linn
I know when I was playing Avernum 1-3, I would change the default location to the My Documents folder. That way you can access them fast and you know where they are.
Easygoing Eyebeast The Mystic
The default folder for A1-3 save games (at least on my computer)is the My Documents folder; I actually make the game folder the default, to make things easier for me. Unflappable Drayk Toby-Linn
That's what I thought, but then Earth's post confused me. So it's fairly easy to back up all your saved Spiderweb games then given as the default location is the My Documents folder. Isn't Nethergate Resurrection or Avernum 4 in the game folder though? Understated Ur-Drakon Earth
that could depend on os since when i played a3 at win98 savegame was at game's folder and when i oaded it on xp file was at game's folder.
Understated Ur-Drakon Celtic Minstrel
The older games let you save the saved game wherever you want. The newer games put them in the Files folder in the game folder – each save slot is a separate subfolder of Files. They are named Save0, Save1, etc, so you can't miss them. Unflappable Drayk Toby-Linn
Except that G5 and Avernum 5 both go into the My Documents folder if you have a Windows XP computer (or the Documents folder under your user name if you have Vista). G5 saved game folders are found in a folder called Spiderweb Software > Geneforge 5, where Avernum 5 is in a folder called Avernum 5. Understated Ur-Drakon Celtic Minstrel
So I noticed in the stickies... I wonder whether that happens on the Mac too.
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
It depends upon the version of Geneforge . The latest version of Geneforge 1 to 3 uses a Spidweb Software folder in Documents on a Mac. The version before January 2009 still uses individual folder for saved games in Documents. Geneforge 4 and Avernum 4 saves games in the game folder. Geneforge 5 saves in Documents as Geneforge 5 Saved Games. Avernum 5 games save under their own names in Documents
Seasoned Roamer beren terino
I found the folder of saved games and copied it to my new computer. Is there any way to import the saved games? I tried deleting the new folder and copying the old one to the same place, but it didn't seem to recognize it.
Unflappable Drayk Toby-Linn
The folders have to be set up the same way they were previously. Also, when you moved them from the old computer, did you enable yourself to see hidden files? Maybe there's one you didn't move.
Ineffable Wingbolt Øther
You could just replace the save files in the new folder with the ones from the old folder.
