backing up saved games

Recommended Posts

My computer has been having power issues, and I need a new one. Only problem is, I don't want to loose my Spiderweb games. I have them on CD, but I was wondering...is there any way to back up the savedgames? I'm only halfway through G5, and I don't want to loose my progress...

No, you will have put them on a CD, flash drive or whatever. Then you can transfer them to the new computer.

Edit:

No, there is no back up as such so you will have to transfer them manually. Compression reduces them a twentieth of their original size or whatever.

For the newer games, you can find them in your My Documents folder under Spiderweb Software or the name of the game itself.

I believe the older games are found in the My Documents folder as well. I forget where the default save location is for Avernum 1-3. If you can't find them do a search for avernum or geneforge and it will tell you where all the folders are.

That's what I thought, but then Earth's post confused me.

So it's fairly easy to back up all your saved Spiderweb games then given as the default location is the My Documents folder.

Isn't Nethergate Resurrection or Avernum 4 in the game folder though?

Except that G5 and Avernum 5 both go into the My Documents folder if you have a Windows XP computer (or the Documents folder under your user name if you have Vista).

G5 saved game folders are found in a folder called Spiderweb Software > Geneforge 5, where Avernum 5 is in a folder called Avernum 5.

It depends upon the version of Geneforge .

The latest version of Geneforge 1 to 3 uses a Spidweb Software folder in Documents on a Mac. The version before January 2009 still uses individual folder for saved games in Documents.

Geneforge 4 and Avernum 4 saves games in the game folder.

Geneforge 5 saves in Documents as Geneforge 5 Saved Games.

Avernum 5 games save under their own names in Documents
