  1. It seems very random. Figured at first it was damage done but my mage is last to level now and keeps getting farther behind and she does all the multiple kills and aoe magic damage
  2. I kill a skeleton and the main damage to that enemy or make that the only damage gets 0 exp but party member who did nothing gets 5 exp? Is it totally random with a total exp value for the enemy being spread random over x amount of party members?
  3. Are all spell scrolls supposed to be melee range now. All scrolls except healing and curing ones are useless for mages since they have no armor and if they are in an adjacent square they tend to get mobbed and cleaved. Also is splinter intentional as well? It seems odd since priests is not wearing a lot of armor to force an adjacent cast. Also since the ai of pets seem to have some serious issue I often will get in an adjacent square get my shade up then get destroyed by too many enemy cleaves and my pet still stands there doing nothing. If that was intentional with splinter I suggest going back to the old way. My priest simply can not take cleaves or 2 hits for that matter making the shade a non use spell for me.
  4. so it does not have the intricate weave of complex connections that avernum has? does it still have the great writing and delivery of descriptions of areas and such?
  5. Is avadon as cool story wise and is the world open ended like avernum as well?
  6. thanks for the info and advice. I am actually finding torment not too bad since it is my second playthrough and I know what stats do and where to go. I am also using the remix which of course nerfs magic but does help out with ranged weaponry
  7. out of curiosity do difficulty settings work when the editor is activated?
  8. I am worried about the magic nerfs for me on torment as well. What does add 100% (50% bonus) mean is that add 100% dmg and additional 50% on top of that? Also what happened to radiate ice. I select target an enemy and the character runs around aimlessly until he/she loses her turn
  9. I will try it out. Not sure it undermines the difficulty adding in bonus exp or even a few bonus skill points to even out the harsher fights. The fight with the emperor on hard was simply stacking invulnerability elixirs otherwise 4 aoe casts was bye bye. that's basically god mode how do the other avernums do difficulty? do they all have these settings?
  10. Playing through again with your remix and I like what has been done so far with missile weapons. especially early on using hard and torment difficulty. It evens out the flow.
  11. SO I just played through on hard mode and was extraordinarily frustrated at times. I like the challenge but is torment mode just some obscene damage reduction for enemies with no real exp bonuses or item improvements? I could not play normal mode because it was just easy mode but at times hard was just annoying since it was merely a hefty across the board damage reduction with no real bonuses to exp or items or coin drop to compensate or balance. So my question is on torment mode will I need to run around a great deal just fighting random enemies and getting 4 exp points just to get high enough to defeat some areas? I can not help to feel that the difficulty modes were not tested or balanced but perhaps because I am very new to the game I am incorrect.
  12. I just finished all 3 major quests in Avernum and have a few questions about the next games in the series. I know this is a semi overhauled remake of the first installment. Do the others look really bad and suffer from ui and other mechanic issues? Do they have the same difficulty modes which in my opinion seem over the top extreme from normal to hard mode and somewhat as far as I can tell insanely difficult on torment? I am eager to experience more of the story of Avernum and am curious just what to expect from the next games since they were not remade. Also I am hoping the UI gets better as I was battling it at times even in this remake.
  13. I am curious if stats cap out on there damage and to hit bonuses? Trying to figure out how to best diversify in my next playthrough.
  14. unfortunately on hard and torment with the resistances they are more useful as money for upgrades to spells or skills.
  15. dispel level 3 needed for certain places all wards cloaks much better at level 3 protection war blessing give regeneration and spines respectivley at level 3 fire ball cleaves icy rain immobilizes (yah not too great with ogres and giants but even with immune shades and undead it can immoblize haste has battle frenzy mass heal has regeneration there is a lot of benefits to level 3 spells exlcuding a few. I am not sure why they let you improve return life tbh
  16. I have not seen a 3rd place for them but I am only about 85% complete game
  17. I am thinking about going 2 party next run through as well. My first play was on hard with 4. I can not imagine not playing with a mage at least for the aoe spells. I am thinking myself I will be playing a rogue magus and a soldier/berserker type priest. so basically arcane back biter and a paladin. I am creating these guys from scratch with no premades and I will be going torment. Hard was pretty off the hook at the start especially with poison and it does get rough with some bosses. I am wondering why there is no bonus exp for hard and torment difficulty since there really should be. Anyway that will be my next run through set up and then I will do a torment single player which is going to be nuts.
  18. Depending on when you get those quests you will naturally find what you are looking for. I suggest each time you find the quest item you go back and get the next one.
  19. After mid game it seems since scrolls and wands are not affected by int or other bonuses they do not land very often. Are wands and such mainly for those who play full melee characters excluding the beneficial affect wands yet still they are not affected by bonuses either even if wielded by a priest. I been ratpacking wands and scrolls but they seem not be used very often and I find a lot of wands. I am playing on hard and sometimes torment as well.
  20. wow I did not know that about roster order. thanks. I am especially liking learning how you have to have to move around in a much more non linear fashion to achieve smooth movement through the game. It is harder to get used coming from mostly linear games that call themselves non linear. and each level seems to really show serious benefit. I am curious does losing to hit affect spells landing as well?
  21. I usually use them as meat shields for set up but I cant figure out how they get placed when I cast nor do I really understand how they activate. Sometimes they seem to get right into battle and other times they stand there indefinitely and do nothing. So As it is posted it takes a proximity for them to activate? I do use the summon shade for other shades. Of course it took an hour just to get a shade placed right in the cramped tunnels so it was not blocked and could get in there to fight.
  22. Been trying to figure out summons for a while now. I summon something it stands there for what seems to be 2 rounds before engaging. Often times it will stand there the entire fight around the corner never moving. Is there some special way I need to work summons to have them properly work? I can not place them where I want or command them so how do they engage. If I want to use them often I need to actually summon them before the fight and literally stick them in front of the door then doing battle then if they get hit they seem to activate. any suggestions/ideas?
  23. hard is definitely hard core and I tried torment haha... insane still hard poses the challenge you might be after. I usually only play games on hard now since somehow designers have decided easy mode is funner for people. I turned off hard mode for one boss battle but other than that I have not and I die a lot so I either am reloading or going back to town.
  24. I just found out I should of been hunting undead first. I was assuming they were tough and was trying to get at the sliths and it simply wasnt happenin... Thanks for the links. As for the open ended world myself I actually like that I am traveling back and forth in a non linear fashion I was just at a point that I was really not making sense of where to go to. It also seems level accounts for far more in this game than does skills/stats.
  25. I am doing something wrong here or is hard like a lot more difficult than normal? normal feels way too easy so I try hard and I get blasted... maybe my builds are wacked? I am new to avernum so getting adjusted so maybe I am not ready for hard even though normal seems like I will just walk through the game easy style... any ideas?
