  1. HI, today I read Jeff Vogel's article on Facebook about the release of Avernum II. It's great news but there's no hint about precisely when the game is going to be released. Do you know the day or at least the month? Thanks
  2. I would like a simple bar for volume control in preferences panel, when I play and listen to a streaming radio from the internet the fight sounds are too loud.
  3. I would love to see a more skilled Blademaster because he's not that good with blades as Shadowalker. I believe this is a choice based upon the urban legends grown about Katanas. There are Discovery channel documentaries that demonstrate that a Japanese sword and a two-handed Medieval sword are effective just the same. This apart, I really don't like a socalled Blademaster that is not effective as a Ninja is.
  4. I never drunk the strange water that makes you stronger only in Corruption more than once, for what it is written in the lines after end game about the pain you suffer, where it is also said that you recover just because you didn't drink enough of it to die. Has somebody experienced a main character's death after game when drinking from two basins? Or is it only a fake threat?
  5. Level is Hard but Sorcerer is third on the line, so his position reduces the damage he could get, as you state. On the other hand Sorcerer has lower percentage protections than his companions. Furthermore, some of the next foes have powerful single shots and it is not the first time I over estimated the health of my party. In the end I think I'd better go on with Rod+Shield. Thank you, Randomizer :-)
  6. I have this doubt about the best configuration when you get Staff of the Sorcerer (two handed) from Valera in Serdica. My sensation is Ivy-Entwined Rod + Tainted buckler is a better configuration for following battles than the Staff alone. At least with the +1 Intelligence improvement both the Rod and the shield already have at this point of the game. But, I am not into maths nor into combat statistics, so I ask what you think.
  7. I wonder why there is no advice about the river of no return, as on the contrary there is touching Duke's trapdoor in Avadon 1. I can hardly find a logical explanation.
  8. @ dolphindave: I can't remember significant differencies playing Avadon 2 on Normal, Hard and Torment mode, this is because I got much of the help I could get in each playthrough; this means I often cheated in first playthroughs, then lowering the "help" amount meanwhile I piled up experience. However, when you decide to confront Redbeard in a new playthrough then you need to plan this fight in advance, and you can: 1) join the rebels 2) find some documents downstairs and give them to the right person. You will get objects that will make the final fight easier and quicker.
  9. I always missed to investigate that closed door in the Training Hall; is it maybe possible to open it after you collect all of the Honor Tokens, or it just stays closed?
  10. I understand, thanks. So the consequence of this choice is that ensnarlment on Infernals is intentionally useless, aknowledged. Pity.
  11. Snare turret doesn't work with Infernals, it says "ensnarled" on them but the infernals appear not to be aware of that.
  12. When you first get into the Corruption you meet Samien and his fellows heading for Base C. If you enter the base before Samien there's a little surprise because Samien is inside his shop already. Then when you leave Base C you find Samien heading for the entrance. Bit odd.
  13. By the way, my experience with Avadon is that you are always the strongest member of the party. This is because it is "you" and doesn't really matter which class you choose. There is a quite normal survival instinct that makes you give the best weapons/scrolls to yourself. The same instinct makes you pay more attention and spend more time to think about how to place the skills. Your main character is you and it is also the first man/woman on the line of fire. This psychological aspect counts as well. I ended games with each of the members of the party as main character and all of them were not only "good" as me, but they were stronger and better built than when the same character was "only" a party member. However, I liked to have a double Tinkermage.
  14. I received the first Corruption quest from Protus, then I went downstair and talked to Folker, but the dialogue forced me to say that "I am not planning to go to the Corruption". This is peculiar to me. Maybe it is too early in the game to get Folker's quest?
  15. Most of the conspirators try to convince you they want to stop Avadon's control over their lands to get their land's decision-making power back. As we can see in Avadon 2 this is not a lie but they omit to inform you of the further steps. They are not merely interested in this encouraging you to take Redbeard's place. They act to destroy Avadon's army and the Keep itself, exspecially Dheless wants that, to be free to, well, fight each others realms to control and reach the absolute power over the continent. Redbeard and his predecessors built Avadon's influence and power (living) throughout the centuries. It seems unlikely to me that a young Keeper with no political vision and ignorant about what came before him can have the wisdom and the intellect to restore Avadon's role... I believe Avadon will definetly fall in episode 3.
  16. Yes, that was it, I talked to the Eye but for some reasons I didn't go through the dialogue about the quest. I met and killed Neray in Wretch Warren, I couldn't resist, so now I figure out there will be no trapdoor in Jereth Deeps. Minor Neray's payback from afterlife.
  17. Hi, I'm playing a new game in Avadon after I guess three years and I forgot how to solve the Neray's no trapdoor in Jereth Deeps mess. I am sure this problem has already occurred to me previously. This trapdoor is marked on the main map but isn't there as she isn't. It is possible I didn't kill her yet (and if I did this would be the explanation). However, just in case I didn't, in which area is located that cave of her I remember she hides with some foes and bats? Thanks!
  18. I finished the game as a rebel and as a loyalist, just like Edgwyn. As a rebel my reasons were different, not for Silke I deserted but for the thrill to change side in the middle of a battle. Sort of "let's see what will be different here" things. Worst part is hunting down old Odil... it was hard, didn't like that at all because I respected him. Then I slowly entered the different game perspective and things went on better but, well, it's creepy!
  19. @ Mistah Q, yes, the bracers are marked NY. The post was not intended to be about stealing, however, it is just a odd character behaviour I noticed and incidentally it became useful. Coming to stealing as an in game sport practice i.e. it was fun to steal runestones in lower Castel Vebeaux (Avadon I) because it was a difficult thing to do, with the assistant smith patrolling the place. In Spiderweb games there are several other good stealing actions to perform, so to say.
  20. When you reach Avadon fortress the first time direct to Protus' office, just in front of it across the corridor there is a guard and a closet. While you get there the guard goes away, open the closet and quickly take the steel bracers in it. Quickly because he's coming back soon and will never leave his place again for the rest of the game. I checked about this. Well it's not even a trick but it can help you early in the game. Steel bracers at this point are quite useful.
  21. The aim of not killing the last skeleton is obviously to avoid another group of skeletons spawning. It works.
  22. Skeletons are weak. My tactic consists in leaving one member of the party confronting skeletons alone, while the others fight the foes from second and third obelisk. When he kills all of the skeletons but one, then he has to stand ground without attacking it, waiting the others to finish their work and open the way out. The moment main character (you) touch the stair out all members of the party automatically go with him/her. ps: can't wait for doom guards.
  23. Yes, it is possible to kill Sulla during the fight with Ghorus, it's cheating, by the way, but makes it possible if you use Jerrakin's custom editor, then give some extra power to the party and this will be enough. Edit: I recently managed to kill Sulla (twice) without any extra power immobilizing him with Sorcerer daze spell (dazed, loose turn) and Tinkermage Bladelash (ensnarled for three turns). So then he can't run away and it's easy to finish him off.
