  1. The romantic parts of Quintessence are unusual and trippy enough without having to be homosexual as well. EDIT : Generally, the strongest scenarios plot-wise make SOME assumptions about the party. For example, the leader of the party in Redemption has a brother who was McNemier's apprentice.
  2. You can use for loops to do it in that case, can't you?
  3. Well, it wasn't default to BoE. The fact that you added it yourself to Bandits 2 didn't add it to any of the other scenarios that needed it.
  4. Code: .\|/. ..*.. ==|== ..... ..... ..C.. Basically, don't try to make area-of-effect projectile attacks like this. It's fine if the center of the area is the caster, though.
  5. I suppose you're right. You absolutely need a plot to justify that you're going out to destroy things, but when I come to an ogre cave in the road, I don't ask why it's there unless, after clearing it, I thought it was boring. (EDIT : This was aimed at Kyna.)
  6. Surprisingly enough, I'm going to have to agree with Vogel here. Sure, I respect the stories of some of the more plot-heavy scenarios, but I always played Blades of Exile primarily to have fun rampaging around the landscape and doing More Or Less Good. This is why Doom Moon II is probably my favorite scenario of all time. While it most certainly had a plot, in fact, quite an interesting and unusual plot at times, no one really played Doom Moon II for the story of the dragons' revenge upon the kingdom for the death of one of their kind. Heck, most of the plot twists could have been seen coming from miles away. What made Doom Moon II one of the best scenarios was simply that it was a great combat/adventure game. You were always on the edge of your seat wondering what in the devil you were going to go up against next. Would it be hordes of Slith Archmagi and Archpriests? Would it be Margoyles, with 10d10 attacks and acidic spit? Or would it be one of the mighty dragons, with thousands of hit points and horrifically powerful special spells? That's what you played Doom Moon II for - the fun of taking on whatever was thrown at you, barely surviving, and charging on, ready for more. I guess what I'm trying to say is that designers have to remember that they're making a game, not a novel. While a good plot can certainly make a scenario more enjoyable, challenging, fast-paced, fun, and unpredictable gameplay goes so much further. (As a corollary, I have to typically agree with Drakefyre on pointless battles. Repeated, unavoidable fights of the Napoleonic Wars style can quickly kill the pacing and fun of any scenario. If you're going to give us stuff to pointlessly massacre, at least have a heart and make the battles as quick as possible.)
  7. It's still a Bad Idea™, really, unless it turns out to be just as easy for Windows users to do this, somehow.
  8. This is unsupported, for the record.
  9. Actually, at least one other scenario is a group effort, TM - Dragon Within 1 : Ragnarok. And I would easily posit that it is much worse than TWotS could ever be.
  10. Actually, I think the warning not to modify those files was more of "you shouldn't, and there's no reason to" rather than "you can't". Unless JV uses some strange backup method for it, there shouldn't be any technical problems with modifying the core files - it's just that, from what I've read, there's no reason you'd want to for your scenario, as it would create needless incompatibility in exchange for nothing. Therefore, um, I see no reason why he can't modify giant spider AI in the core file. ADDENDUM : Try modifying it in a single scenario data file first. JV telling us whether or not he's using some strange backup method would work, too.
  11. Arkenstone is just a strange scenario, really. I can't say I really liked it, but I didn't dislike it either...
  12. *i has no need to be a mod.
  13. Ornks are people too. EDIT : Also, don't bump topics from two months ago. -_________-
  14. BoE works better for me on Windows XP than it ever did on any other operating system I've run it on. (Of course, I haven't played it on a Mac. I suppose that it would be best on one, mostly because it was designed on one... )
  15. Drakey, Alorael, and I all have brains, thank you very much, Reality Corp.
  16. Karamea - Drakey is out of town.

  18. Second. The first Doston was barely a large island. The second Doston is the biggest continent on Ermarian. In any case, by my theories, Baltimore's descendants were born on Pralgad - they were thus unable to do anything about the collapse of the Aizoan empire.
  19. Actually, that was the reason for the Second Cataclysm - we wanted to get rid of technologies like nuclear weaponry and space travel, at least for the time being.
  20. Well, I can't really think of any BoE scenarios set after what would be 2000 IE. The second cataclysm happened much later - something like 4500 IE. The current BoE Arena date would be, uh, in the 6100s. EDIT : The first cataclysm, which I'm likely wrong about, would be the fall of the Empire followed within a hundred years by some sort of immense natural disaster that caused Doston to be created - for the record, Doston is the largest continent in the Arena plotline. The second cataclysm, which I have the complete details on, would be due to the escalating war between the Church of the Reaper and the Church of Divine Flame which led to the destruction of the CoDF's superweapon platform, the Saturnalia II, and its collapse onto Ermarian. The resulting impact, gargantuan explosion, and dispersal of nuclear fallout wiped out a great portion of life on Ermarian and blasted civilization back into the Stone Age for 1000 years. Around 600 years have passed in the Arena since then.
  21. That block of 10 emperors was left blank because, well, it's for people to design scenarios in if you want one set in the actual Empire. (If the other Hawthornes and Prazacs were actually in a scenario, um, whoops.)

  23. Hm. TM says that the Aizoan Empire and Pralgadian Empire went to war, which the Aizoans won, overtaking the Pralgadian Empire. *i says that the Aizoan Empire collapsed and Sol I started his reign on Pralgad modeled after the Aizoan Empire. Hoorah.
  24. I fear for this thread's life, for it likely shall not have much left.
