  1. Artemis looks to pointless and untrustworthy gossip to get up-to-date on things. But its not usually the most up-to-date political scandal. It goes something like this: Carlos and Amanda have been on and off for 3 years. He cheated on her with Tiara. Then Tiara broke up with him. He wants Amanda back. She was stupid enough to say yes.
  2. Quote: Alorael, who didn't concoct this thread. He also didn't mean to pick. He was mostly amused by the claim of disease, unaccompanied by any commentary on the long preceding discussion. It seems like a very good way to put the thread into a permanent disease discussion loops. Actually, a loop thread with literally copied posts would be a great way to boost post counts... If you really MUST know, my computer auto-scrolled down to the bottom of the page before i finished reading [automatically assuming that i wanted to quick-reply]. So I posted what I thought. Beleive me, I'm no trouble maker looking to make a loop thread to draw attention to myself.
  3. Quote: Then you could at least put forth the effort to say that you're ignoring the preceding discussion before stating something that has already proven to be fodder for unprovable but vigorous assertions. What? I'm starting to think that you concocted this thread to pick on me. Just because the matter was resolved 10 posts ago doesnt mean that I cant voice my opinion. It can't possibly offend you to the point of dedicating a whole post to chatise my late statement. It's not that bad. Honestly.
  4. Quote: Alorael, who also now wonders if Artemis missed twenty-some posts on aliens and diseases. He doesn't feel like putting forth all the anti-disease arguments again. hmmm? no. she was just sayin'.
  5. If we came into contact with aliens, we'd all die, no matter their intent. Why? Diseases. Or, if the movie "Signs" is anything to go by, the aliens will react to water as if it were acid. YEAH! [that's a pretty old movie. I dont expect anyone to remember it. Signs revolutionized alien invasion movies!]
  6. *Arouses from her slumber* huh? this is going to turn into a smam thread? Where can I sign up? Give it a couple hours. Acky's going to fly in and bring everyone back on topic. It's apart of his "noone messses with my thread!" Policy.
  7. Get a load of this: When the aliens finally invade Earth, you may wish you had listened to Travis Taylor and Bob Boan. And if the invasion follows the plot of a typical Hollywood blockbuster, they might also be the guys called in at the last minute to save the day. After all, they have written "An Introduction to Planetary Defense", a primer on how humanity can defend itself if little green men wielding death rays show up at our cosmic doorstep. And yes, they're serious. "The probability really is there that aliens exist and are old enough to have technology to enable them to come here," Taylor said in an interview. Taylor and Boan are hardly basement-dwelling paranoids obsessed with tinfoil hats and Area 51. Taylor holds advanced degrees in astronomy and physics, and is an associate at consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton. He and Boan have done consulting work for the Defense Department and the U.S. space agency NASA. But their views have won few audiences outside of science fiction conventions, and their book is published by BrownWalker Press, which specializes in fringe topics and books with titles like "The Science and Lore of the Plant Cell Wall" and "ESP and Psychokinesis". Taylor acknowledged alien invasion is hardly a mainstream concern but said it is naive to assume -- as scientists like the late Carl Sagan did -- that any beings advanced enough to master star travel will have evolved beyond war. "It's a wonderful idea that has no basis in reality," Taylor said. Artie out.
  8. Quote: No one is forcing anyone to be here, let alone participate in this debate. you know, that's a great point. With that being said, assume that you wont be seeing me on these forums for a while. Not like you care. Quote: Also, Salmon outranks you. Majorly. He's cool, you're. . . new. Don't push things. of course. I forgot that this was a popularity contest. you're like immature school children. Well, you guys can have fun here. I dont even want to begin to associate myself with the likes of you.
  9. Quote: Artemis - Healthy debate means using critical thinking to attack the ideas put forth by another. Often, it appears as if the attack is focused against a person, but in reality it is not. The moderating staff of this forum, which you have so roundly criticised here, are highly trained in recognizing ad hominem debating, and would, assuredly, remove it and chastise the offensive individual. I find it SO ammusing that you're one of the rudest people on these forums, and you have the nerve to lecture ME. I clearly said that "I'm no moderator, but..." So I dont understand how this is a wrongdoing by me. Had I not double thought and had the sense to put that, it would be an downright COC war. So please read over your own posts before you misdirect your anger.Furthermore, I have the utmost respect for the dedication of these moderators, and have not said anything to suggest otherwise. Once you find the post where I disrespect or criticize the moderators, then you let Artemis know.
  10. Quote: I know many "druggies" who don't call out, and can even help the class, even when they could care less. And drop outs? If there really is nothing we can do (that's a huge if), why would we waste resources putting them into a school that they'll just drop out of? Quote: First of all, who the heck are the "Drop Outs"? Presumably, if they are in school bugging you, they haven't actually dropped out yet. Quote: You, by consciously or subconsciously segregating your fellow classmates, are shortchanging both your, and their, education. Well done. Quote: Can I put it once more? No, the point has been made. You admit that you are on one extreme, yet you use your experience to analyze the whole. Really? Quote: . Since we've already determined you didn't actually mean that you wanted the druggies and drop outs to be gassed, all that's left is your plea for a change in the system which favors your education at the expense of others. Is that how things are run in New Zealand? Quote: If your intent by segregating the "druggies and drop outs" is to remove them from your society, why not go all the way and toss them into the special "showers"? Quote: If you separate out failing students and put them together, the result is more failure. This is almost always the case. It might work much better to take your "druggies and drop-outs" and seed them into the best schools, though of course then the perverse incentive to do drugs or become a drop-out, whatever that is, might cause problems. The hostility of this debate is really bothering me. I'm no moderator, but I think that I have the right as a human to point out the fact that Hypno essentially "gets the point." most or all of these quotes were taken from diffent posts. Right about now, including the remarks about New Zeland, it's starting to be bullying. You aren't arguing among yourselves, you're pretty much attacking Hypnotic. Like I said, shoving people into corners isnt going to make them see your point of veiw. As a human, not a moderator, I request that we wait until Hypnotic posts before everybody starts bombarding him with accusations. Please and thank you. Arite out.
  11. Seriously guys, there is absolutely no need to gang up on him like that. All he's trying to say is that if you dont want to learn, but you go to school because you have no choice, then there should be some way to feed off of that situation to make a better community. Back off, please. Shoving people into corners isn't going to make anyone see a different point of view. Artie out.
  12. Quote: I don't know about New Zealand, but America has enough druggies and such to start another country. But how are these "druggies" made? Poor educational system? Maybe. Disruptive family life? Maybe. But a bad learning enviornment? Most likely. Quote: Can I put it once more? No, the point has been made. You admit that you are on one extreme, yet you use your experience to analyze the whole. Really? Calm down, hun. It just very well be a possibility that Hypno's opinoions were slightly swayed by this discussion. In which case, embrace the alteration of mindset. As for industrial revolution? Artemis thinks that everyone's attacking the problem of "bad schools" a bit too unopenmindedly. We should address each problem individually. Is it the teachers? The curriculum? After we ADDRESS the problem, them we might be able to zone in and fix certain aspects (or figure out how to, anyway.) Artie out.
  13. Quote: In fact, most of the education is wasted time and effort, forgotten after testing and graduation. Well, that depends. If you spend 3 years looking for a job in a certain profession, and come up from the well empty, those extra classes that you unwillingly took might come in handy.
  14. @ Ssschah ...Which is so horribly productive, am I right?
  15. How so? There is not much to do during the summer...Other then take a vacation, in which case 2 weeks would be plenty of time. But more breaks in between would content me, rather then the exteneded, droning weeks of school in a big stretch. [there are weekends, of course, but they do not suffice for me.]
  16. Artemis approves of spending more time in school. Mainly because she doesnt find the time nor the energy to do work/ study at home. Or we could do what the Japaneese do. Which is cut back summer vacation and shove in more breaks in between. This is effective for a number of reasons, one mainly being the fact that after the first 2 weeks of summer vacation, it kind of essentially gets "old," and we start anticipating school again.
  17. Aaaawww but James is such a boring name to call you. YOU'D BETTER POST. anyhoo, Artemis thinks that people are trying to make their creations badass, and made them Gods instead. Her suggestion: read it over before you post it and think, would you wanna fight this thing?
  18. Artemis thinks that Pibb and Dr. Pepper taste exactly the same: but pibb bottles are easier to hold [Artemis has small hands] So she always gets it.
  19. No, dont drop! Whose gonna tell me how much they're gonna incinerate me at dinnertime???
  20. artemis technically does. everytime hypno posts, he PMs me for ideas and suggestions. Two people, one faction.
  21. ***POSTATHON!*** anyhoo, artemis likes any drink that's non-alchoholic and not good for her at the same time. Coke, Sprite, Dr.Pepper, CREAM SODA, root beer, pepsi, CREAM SODA, and the likes. She cant say the same for food: Artemis doesnt eat anything that used to have eyes. Except for potatoes.
  22. Artemis has the day off from skool today, due to the horrendous flooding in her state lately. Her house is fine though, by some miracle.
  23. Quote: Artemis cute things are not fun to hit. I can't even clecnch my fist if my cat looks at me. I'm a big softy. I guessed that much. But soft guys are usually cute, so it doesn't matter to Artemis.
  24. That's the spirit! Artemis says "death to all of the cruel rebels and shapers!" But artemis' opinion never counts so...
  25. Artemis is with Dantius on this one. Anything minuature sized is cute to me, though. but cute things are always fun to hit. hece, my little brother.
