  1. Oh, I need to do my level. Bumping Agility (and retroactive Riding)
  2. Well, TeX can export to many formats, including html
  3. I have a TeX/LyX document in progress, someday I should finish porting that
  4. Eventually it'll be in the game. Unfortunately it is in dire need of updating (which I really need to get around to, sorry!). It is online here. All the docs are stored in the git repo, you can clone it or just download the zip. Its in the /doc directory.
  5. Well, the current 'node' implementation is missing a lot of things, like any sort of string manipulation and variable management. Ideally I we could replace 'nodes' with a basic scripting engine similar to Avernumscript, and the editor could act as a simple point-and-click IDE of sorts. The issue is finding a balance between usability and features. Personally, I think we should strive for something similar to Warcraft III and JASS. The editor would present this interface, which was pretty straightforward--if ten-year-old me could make something somewhat-playable, anyone can. The interface would take the triggers and write a JASS script out of them (this is all transparent to the user, who just has their trigger editor). It's a big jump from the current system, but I imagine something like bison could help a lot with parsing a script language. I might take a look at this and see if I can come up with something. As far as detecting an unpacked scenario, I had originally thought about making the main 'info' file act as a sort of 'carrier signal' for the scenario. So if you open a folder in the editor, it would look for that xml file in the folder, and if it found it (and it was valid) it'd know the folder was good.
  6. Yeah, I've been toying around with an XML-based format for a long time, and never really got anywhere with it. Unfortunately I can't remember what most of my intentions were for this particular incarnation, so it might as well get thrown in the bin. I agree on your choice for large array-things like terrain data. A CSV as a separate file or even encapsulated in a CDATA or something. Saving the nodes in a custom format would work too, although I've been thinking nodes in general need a revamp. As far as the silly <user> subtag, that was to allow for a future expansion into carrying CSR data with the scenario. Which is kinda stupid. So let's not (especially now that I've almost-got a finished API for my CSR parser). The <id> tag is simply a way to provide a machine-readable 'link' to a database, enabling things like 'view CSR reviews' and 'download via an in-game browser' or some such. On the off chance we have similar-sounding scenarios (or a name change?) it could come in handy. (A key feature I'd like to see in CBoE is integration with online services like the CSR and scenario downloads. I think it'd make it really easier for people to find a scenario to play) Author ID/SW ID is just a vestigial bit from when this was planned on being tuned towards CSR reviews as well. Feel free to eradicate. As far as version control, I had a couple thoughts. One was that we could essentially have the actual scenario folder be its own local git repo, and each save is effectively a commit. This has a lot of drawbacks, however. The better solution, I think, would be to go with a 'dev layout', where its saved, unzipped and uncompressed, for version control use. Once it's ready to go, the game could create a 'release layout', which is essentially the same thing except tarballed. w/r/t having the old BoE detect it as new, I don't think it'll be worth it. I mean, I doubt very many people are using the original BoE anymore, and the new format will probably have a different extension anyway, so I doubt there'll be too much of 'oops, opened it in original boe by mistake'. I dunno.
  7. Could you elaborate on these problems? What sort of graphical issues are present without compatibility, and do they occur on the most recent builds (available here)?
  8. Actually, it seems to only show up with that version, I dropped in a build from trunk code and it was fine. SkeleTony, could you please drop in this character editor binary and see if it solves the issue?
  9. Due to the unique way in which Comcast is incompetent (which actually works out in our favor...for once), they haven't realized the modem powering Tellurium has moved twenty miles. So it's up but will go down at some point, whenever the new ISP sends their stuff out.
  10. Yeah, there's definitely something funky going on. I'll take a look and see if we can't fix that.
  11. The Jenkins server will be down until 1 Dec due to an infrastructure move. Sorry for anyone who was planning on using it over the holiday.
  12. i'm sure there's a windows or cygwin port of lynx out there somewhere go big or go home right
  13. Assuming Crossover is some sort of Wine analogue, iirc you have to run with the working directory being the boe folder (cd'ing into it and then doing wine ./boe.exe or whatever) been awhile since I did Wine BoE but that error is fixable.
  14. because exile doesnt have silly isometric crap, it has better spells, 6-player party, and really is infinitely better in all ways. new is not always better y'all
  15. If it runs differently on mains rather than battery, that indicates power settings are messed up. Also, initial lag and then smoothness is usually caused by I/o latency as things are loaded into memory (or in some cases, nonessential things swapped). Nothing to do for that besides a ramdisk (ibwouldnt recommend for your system), or short striping (which may help, but can be difficult to do properly).
  16. If you like aimhack, why not just fork off a variant and go from there? Its simple enough that you can learn it quite quickly, and unless you go with a big name they'll need to learn a system anyway, right?
  17. This is true with all software, including Jeff's games, including CDs you buy in a store, including free/open source software. That blurb of text you ignore when installing something is called an End User License Agreement, and acts as a contract saying "you can run this software, provided x, y, z (usually, 'dont hack or redistribute pls')". The only person who owns software is the person who wrote the software. You don't own any of the software on your computer, including the operating system. You license it from whoever wrote it. Now, with regards to steam, if you have two of the same thing but there were different EULAs agreed to (in this case, let's say SWs EULA and whatever steam uses as a default) then that means you (and the company, its important to note these are two-way contracts) are bound to both licenses, however in a conflict of terms (license A says you can do x, B says you can't do x) then you may choose to do the less restricted option. This is called dual licensing and is quite common actually (especially in the FOSS community). Let's say you bought Exile Remake Remake III: Ruined World from Jeff a year or whatever from now. You want to make a mod that turns the party into, I dunno, miniature horses or something, doesn't matter. Let's say Jeff's EULA allows such a modification (presumably with some stipulations). Now, let's say you pick it up at steam for ten cents or whatever. If steam gets pissy because they don't want you running your full conversion Diminutive Horses III: Escape from Tartarus, you do have legal basis to tell them to stick it (whether you want to spend the legal fees is another question). The most they could do is say "ok we aren't letting you download it anymore" which is identical to saying "ok we aren't mailing you another CD" as far as the legal system cares) The reason steam doesn't do refunds is because, at the end of the day, they're a distributor. They make a killing of the internet equivalent of printing CDs (and running the store the CDs are sold in). And as far as technical issues go, you cant really expect them to offer full support for the, what, ten billion CHOO CHOO INDIE FLASH GAME games on steam. Steam has so many users because it offers users what most want (cheap games, download anywhere and anytime, DRM that works and isn't the NSA), while also offering developers what they want (huge market, somewhat reasonable fees, DRM that works and isn't the NSA). Am I personally a huge fan? Not really. If there's a non-steam version of a game I usually get that (provided its standalone and not through another service). Do I like that in theory steam could shut off and lose all my games? Not really, but in the three years I've used steam I've yet to have an issue with playing a game (even when I had no internet). Its not great, but it works. Meh.
  18. The EULA for boa at least stipulates that you are allowed to transfer the agreement provided the third party agrees to all the terms you agreed to. So yeah, its legal provided you uninstall it first ( I'm sure there's a stipulation somewhere to tell Jeffers, but lol I'm not gonna read the whole thing) edit:
  19. I think, more likely, we will see hydrogen emerging as the next "fuel of the future". Recent research in solar cell research is quickly making it trivial to electrlyze water into its component hydrogen and oxygen. The only real thing holding back hydrogen as a fuel source has been making enough of it through a clean method. We've already got prototype/productipn-esqe hydrogen vehicles, we've just needed a way to cleanly get the stuff.

It's worth noting, that due to a politically-motivated decision by Twitch several months ago, there are no longer any past broadcasts saved. Before everything was wiped, I thought I exported everything, but it looks like all I saved was one video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hmmOx_sMic&list=UUSsTzqsjWo6xzRaoWlriESw#t=2405 (that should seek you to where things start to happen).
  23. If you're playing via Steam, try hitting (by default) F-12. Barring that, I'd recommend avoiding fullscreen mode, instead using borderless windowed ("fake" fullscreen) or windowed mode. Dunno what the newer games do for fullscreen, though.
