  1. I was saying that it's the Onyx Scepter- an old favorite. And that you have to get to Rentar's first fort.

  4. Wasn't it the Onyx Scepter? Anyway, you need to get to Rentar Ihrno's lair to kill the shades, and that just ain't happening in the demo. Sorry.
  5. Kel's wrong. The shade is one of those monsters (like Doricas or Rentar) who literally cannot be killed. You can pound the shade into what SHOULD be well below 0HP, but it will always persist (and regenerate).
  6. ...you can't kill it in the demo. I mean it- you quite literally can't kill it.
  7. ...how can you give emergency first aid to a statue?
  8. I also think that A4 could use its color shift technology to make some really interesting encounters by using camouflage- that is, monsters who appear randomly and *almost* look like the terrain around them... Until they attack. One example I liked was the stone worms (summoned) on the cave floor that's sort of grey-ish. I barely even saw those things until they were already firing at me.
  9. ...if you liked the demo a LOT and don't mind a significant decrease in gameplay, get it. Remember, folks. JV is the genius of placing registration barriers- he knows when and where to put them, and it's usually the exact point at which gameplay thereafter goes sour. EDIT: Wait, that's not true. The GF games all typically start sucking before you hit their barriers.
  10. ...all of those "escorts", however, either: 1. Move totally independent of you 2. Don't follow you particularly well
  11. Its acquisition range is somewhat more generous than you might expect- JV (rightfully) assumes that some dumbasses will probably meander too close accidentally, especially with how close that church is.
  12. Athron's Lair, and also the one gatehouse en route to the Hawthorne portal.
  13. Quote: Originally written by Ephesos: Linearity is good when it's implemented well (which I feel A4 does, particularly beyond the demo). Are you mad? A4 beyond the demo is just a matter of "kill X number of plagues to gain enough levels to kill remaining X number of plagues before reaching the Castle". Chitraches (who are not supposed to look like goddamned clawbugs!), undead, bandits... Okay, so we get to the castle. First, there's a trap that any dumbass could smell from miles away. Then, there's another trap that's even more egregiously conceived. (Honestly, I expected the crystal box to blow up and incinerate the whole castle. They really were asking for it.) Then, um, go off and kill Rentar. Then go off and kill her again. Game over. This is like some sort of hideous parody. A3 was no good, but A4's plot is genuinely unbearable. I mean, the shades were a very nice idea... Dorikas' band was an interesting concept at first... But everything else was 100% re-hashed.
  14. After killing rentar and getting the game-over, my first thought was, "When do I get to kill Dorikas?" And hell, there's at least one gaping hole with that pylon- if pylons can be accessed by unattuned people, doesn't that essentially mean that Rentar's inner sanctum could have been accessed by ANYONE? Why wasn't I teleported there in the first place?
  15. [Edit: I changed the thread's title. The original name was "Beat Rentar."] Twice. But why did she have a pylon standing behind her, anyway?
  16. There's discrepancies in what Vantanas is like. Or better yet. Doston.
  17. Unless this has changed since last time, I believe the problem with playing as a singleton is that the experience is not concentrated on one PC. Plus, blessing and hasting are: 1. More expensive 2. Cannot be done as one action

  19. He's right. Unless there's a serious and dramatic increase in difficulty as the game progresses, cheats are entirely superfluous.
  20. Twice as long and 5-6 years older.
