  1. this is sometimes a good policy; there are people whose web identities are more stable than anything else about them, including their bodies. consequently getting attached to faces can be a little silly sometimes and really bodies are as malleable and performative as anything else about someone, so ...

Ironically, I didn't actually realize who you were until I saw your picture. The PDN should have been a giveaway, but I was thinking that was a coincidence.
  2. No, it just kept telling me to enter the number provided above the field into the field itself, then telling me I had the wrong number.

That means you have the demo and not the registered version. The code it gives is one that you would provide when registering in order to get the correct registration code. I would suggest contacting support@spiderwebsoftware.com
  3. The cache is also cleared with the Clear History and Website Data command. I hadn't suggested that because I assumed he had already done this since he mentioned he deleted the cookies.

  4. At this point, I would suggest nuking and paving. If you delete the Safari folder from your user library, whatever is causing this should be deleted as well. Quit Safari, open a Finder window click on Go on the menu bar, hold down the option key (or alt if you're using a Windows keyboard, and click on Library. You may want to backup your bookmarks first; if so, open the Safari folder and copy bookmarks.plist somewhere you can find it. Then delete the Safari folder and relaunch Safari. If this doesn't fix it, something deep in your system files is screwed up.

  5. The review wasn't copied from the Lyceum, probably because my review was basically a personal attack that had nothing to do with the scenario.

Precisely. When copying reviews from the Lyceum to SV, we made the decision not to include reviews that had no substance or were obviously attacks. When copying them from SV to their current home on SW, I weeded out a few more of them that had somehow made the cut the first time.

  6. I am not necessarily talking new franchises here. I'd rather Avadon 3-51 if so be it rather than remaking old material. I don't see any inherent risk in expanding the most successful franchise that he has made so far.

To which I again reference Blades of Avernum. The issue is not just new franchises but new titles in those franchises. There is more risk, although probably less than with a whole new franchise.

To be fair, Blades of Avernum was kind of half remake, half new game in the same franchise.

  8. There's this cool Roman myth of this rich farmer named Cincinnatus*, who was selected to become the Dictator of the Roman Republic during a time of crisis. He dutifully led the Romans through war successfully, earning the admiration of his peers. He would have been able to be Rome's first emperor, most likely. However, after the war was over, he absolved power and restored the Republic. Because of that humility and lack of corruption, he was held by many to be the ideal Roman man.

For some reason, Cincinnatus is held up as exceptional for this, when it was standard Roman policy. He was neither the first nor the last man appointed dictator of Rome (which was an actual job title) who stepped down after serving his term.
