Actually, since unix vi (an editor) uses hjkl (Left,Down,Up, Right), it might make more sense to use it.
Most games that use WASD for movement also use the mouse, so your right hand is on the mouse.

That is exactly why I disable it on all my computers.

172.x is a local subnet. Your modem is creating a local network. This is very common with DSL and satellite connections. If you are able to login to your modem, you may be able to bridge it, so that it is just sending traffic and not creating a network. This will result in your router pulling a WAN IP from your ISP's server. If you are unable to do this, you can bridge your router, so that it is not creating a a local network. Then your computers would all pull addresses from the modem. Then you'll have a single NAT. You would still have to set up port forwarding in your router if you bridge your modem, or in your modem if you bridge your router, if you want to connect to your server over the WAN.

If, however, your ISP really is using the same WAN IP for multiple clients, then I would say that you should leave rural Montana and get a decent ISP. tongue

It was the first article I found. I'll try to do better the next time someone famous dies. tongue

You can fix the NAT problem by bridging your modem, if that is possible. If not, you can bridge your router.

Finally, if possible, please answer these questions to help me troubleshoot the problem.

    1. What version of Windows are you using? Vista? XP?
    2. How are you trying to run the game? The icon on the desktop? Running it from the Start menu?

Also, one thing to try, that might be very helpful. Try running the game by double-clicking on the icon on the desktop. If it doesn't work, right-click it and select properties. See what is entered in the Start In: field and let me know. That entry should _not_ be blank.

This is why my laptop is a Mac, and my desktop is a hackintosh.

So if anyone hasn't bought it yet on steam they should. Also tell your friends! (I convinced at least one friend of mine to pick it up).

I really did love this game so I'm hoping it will sell well enough on steam that the re-release of Avernum will also be released on steam.
I would imagine that, going forward, new releases will be on Steam. I'm sure Jeff certainly wants to put them on Steam, and, now that he has one game up, it probably isn't as difficult to get new games approved.

Not in Avernum 1. Avernum 2 and up have health bars on enemies when in combat mode.

That is the hit chance percentage. That sloth has an 81% chance of hitting Melissa when it attacks. The game calculates your character's defensive skills and compares them to the attacker's offensive skills to get that number.

You cannot on a modern Mac. Apple removed numpad functionality from their laptops in 2007. However, as The Mystic says, USB numpads are not hard to find and are pretty inexpensive.

No offense, but most people here do not use IRC and do use AIM. I'm not going to bother downloading and configuring a client just because one person doesn't want to use AIM. As to a chat log, PM me your email address, and I will send it to you.
