  1. I know this doesn't answer the original question, but if a person plans to play all three games, I recommend playing in order. Otherwise, skip G2; get G1 and G3.
  2. ** Spoilers for the whole second Sixus tower ahead ** "2. SIXUS' SECOND CAVE Go north by boat from Almaria. You'll find a small area of land where you can disembark and move around. Go north, and you'll see a few shamblers shambling about. Go up to the tower and enter. Drop all your food at the entrance. Trust me. Then go down and pull the levers: //\//\ Then go up and kill the giants, and go up through the secret passage. Look around and kill anything that moves. Get to the north, then go west as far as you can. Go through the secret passage, past the statues (which would have eaten your food if you still had some), and kill the drakes. Then use move mountains on the wall, and go north then east. Look in the nest for a rod of arcana. Go west (destroy the stalagmites with move mountains), and kill the ice hydras and the ur- basilisk (capture it in your soul crystal if you want it). Then go to the south and use move mountains again, destroying the wall. Enter the room, and tell Sixus that Bevan sent you. He'll thank you and tell you to grab a treasure hidden on the south side of his wall. It's a robe of the magi, very nice if your mage isn't a natural mage. Go south, and read the books on the bookcases, then use move mountains on the east wall to get beast ceremony 3. That's it for here, go back to Almaria to claim your reward: 75 xp(!), 4 rep, 600c. Don't forget to pick up your food." This is from Zeviz's site. If you want to find the whole walkthrough, Google "Avernum 2 Zeviz".
  3. "First, in the mined shore, I dismissed Camille before she deactivated the mines. Is there a way of doing that myself without upping my mechanics from 10 to 14? I might be able to cheat using an "SDF" and if that is the only way does anyone know what it is?" I don't think an SDF can help you. "Second, is there any use for iron bars like in the previous games?" There is no quest to collect iron bars. There are quests for dried herbs, research notes, and shaper equipment. "Third, is the rubble in the lower school removable or will the blackened areas be forever hidden?" The rubble is eventually cleared away. I think you have to defeat the spawner on the first island. "Fourth, I have piles of special items I probably won't use. In the GF1 and GF2 I could sell them to stores and still be able to buy them back if I needed them for some reason. Can I do something like that here so I don't have the piles?" Things you sell to shops will remain in the shop inventory until the shop inventory is full. Items sold to a shop with a full inventory will be lost forever. "Fifth, it is possible to go through the green areas like in the other games but you can't do that here when going from island to island. Can that be remedied or must I still go through the endpoints to get to the skiff. (I learned a couple new words when playing this game)" You must use skiffs to move from one island to another, and typically only from one dock to another. "Sixth, in the previous games when you picked up a group of items it said, "how many?" It doesn't say that here so I can't consolidate my tools in one bunch or I'd have to carry around 100 pounds just for tools. I fix this problem but putting my tools, crystals, and other items in several groups of about 20. 20 pounds is alot light than 100 so I might be able to use my tools without having to not carry any and go back to "home base," that is South End, and pick up all of them and use some." Hold Shift and click the stack of items while they are on the ground. "Seventh, I am following the walkthrough, Matt P's. He has many places, up to Dhonal's island, in which he says stuff like, kill the golems and deactivate the acid baths. That one is on the acid plant new the beginning of Dhonal's. I am not even remotely able to defeat golems and barely other creatures. Yes I am 'torment' and I can lower the difficulty but they still seem to inflict enough damage and I can't that I don't think that will help." Every class will have problems with different areas, and different styles of playing will also have effects. If an area is too hard, skip it. Also, golems are weak to acid damage. "Lastly, eighth, I kill the ghost attacking General Greiner(sp). I then go to Lord Rahul and tell him of that. I get a quest to deliver new orders but can't find the General to give them to. He isn't in his quarters but I can't think of anywhere else to look." Check his front office.
  4. I started at the bottom of the thread and read upwards...
  5. Mr. Snuffy, just an FYI: starting a thread whose general gist is "Hey, I'm new! I'm having a lot of fun!" is, around here, like an invitation to some people to post an insufferable and unfunny meme. So watch out. Sorry to ruin the thread, but I want to get in before they can strike again. It's not that starting a thread like this is intrinsically bad. Others just make it that way.
  6. As I was writing a message that the location of the town script was the problem, you edited your post! Anyway, if a string is too long, it means that the section in quotes is too large to be displayed. So in this case, you need to shorten the part which reads "You enter a walled building in the middle of this large swamp. You pass through the damaged gates and see what looks like the site of a magical disaster. It looks as if something either escaped or got in the large construct in the center of the building. A small building is near the construct. Perhaps you can find answers there.".
  7. You have to do more than just click on him and cycle through the dialog options, as suggested above. I think that immediately after entering the dialog screen, you have to pick the option "Examine him more closely" or something along those lines. Otherwise the only dialog choices you will be presented with will result in the game ending your conversation.
  8. Quote: Originally written by The Sisters Cassidy.: Quote: Originally written by lordofdc: There are rumors that the vahnatai created nephelim, slitherkai, humans, ect. Maybe the vahnatai are shapers that gone and hid underground after bieng beaten. Also. In Avernum 4. A vahnatai says he is not a Shaper. What did he mean by it? Are the vahnatai truly the logn lost shapers? Yes, and they became twisted and deformed into Vahnatai after an accident with asbestos. Just for clarity - no. No they are not Shapers. They will never be Shapers, and they never been Shapers. But what if they were Shapers?
  9. I know that the "?" button brings up my statistics sheet. But what button or key can I use to see my skills? For example, if I want to know how many levels of Create Fyora I have, what do I do?
  10. Quote: Originally written by Excalibur: Well, I suppose someone who has the capability of reading computer script can. Otherwise everyone should cope just fine. As far as I know, there is no way to directly view the game formulas without the source code. The only Spiderweb Software game whose source code is accessible is Blades of Exile. There have been significant engine changes between Blades of Exile and Avernum 5. However, as the original poster wrote, people may have already determined the formulas by changing their stats and examining the resulting changes.
  11. The HBO show "The Wire". Hence the title. No, I never noticed that. That's a new find, as far as I know. There are also "Arrested Development" characters in G3, I believe.
  12. Invest in wands; they use three AP, meaning you can attack twice without worrying about hasting. You probably know this by now, but the concentration of fire on one target at a time is essential. If you want to get really technical, mark the ones which are hasted by the other Aranea and go after them first. Also, try summoning a decoy shade. Their immunity to ice might prove useful against Aranean Ice Lances.
  13. This is a partial list. Wine (no idea what type): Fort Remote Ore Sacks: Dharmon Sack o' Meal: Harston Empire Records: Castle Cheap Wine: Fort Dranlon Sugar: Silvar (I only ever found one bag of sugar, but I hear there are about three) Healing Herbs: Formello Iron Bars: Fort Draco Also, I think there are three quests (Castle, Egli, and one other place, I think) which ask for Drake teeth and only two instances of the item, so choose wisely. I also remember a mage who wanted a Red Lizard Egg, but only one. I never found a use for Drake Eggs or Aranea Fangs.
  14. I remember that in A2 there's several uranium bars out in the chasms (the north east part of the Vahnatai lands). If you get a message saying "You see a sort of dull, glowing metal. Pick it up?" or something along those lines, don't pick up the item.
  15. If a cursor is missing, my guess is that the code names a cursor to be used by the game, but isn't in the folder when it needs to be compiled. You should have cursors named "BOOT" "C" "D" "DL" "DR" "KEY" "L" "R" "SWORD" "TALK" "TARGET" "U" "UL" and "UR" already, I think. Which one does the compiler name as missing or needed? Also, approximately how many errors are you getting when you try to compile the program? And where did you get your source code?
  16. Actually, I changed my mind. If someone could help me more, I'd appreciate it. For Avernumscript, there's a list of all calls, divided into different sections depending on the nature of the call used, known as the Docs. Is there a compilation of calls for C++ as well? Where can it be found?
  17. In order to create BoE from the source code, you need to compile the game. To compile the game, you need a project with the source files inside it and also a compiler. I'm not sure how to move the files into your project using MC C++, though. But once the files are in your project, your compiler (MC C++) should give you an option somewhere to compile the program. Then, most likely, you'll get a bunch of error messages. Solve them if you can; when you're done, the game should finally compile. However, if you just want to read the code, what you already have is what you get. There's nothing simpler, as far as I know.
  18. Okay. I can now compile programs and run them. I'm still running into problems, but I should be able to solve them now.
  19. I think I have a working version of the BoE source code. Now, how can I turn that source code into a BoE application? What program do I use? Sorry if this looks like a foolish question. I'm very unfamiliar with coding utilities in general; my furthest experience is with Avernumscript, in Wordpad. So if the program's name has appeared previously in the discussion on these forums, I probably didn't recognize it for what it was.
  20. So will this essentially be another Encyclopedia Ermarian, except for Geneforge? Or will it be something new? If you folks want to break the mold, I think it would be a good idea to include information on character builds, even though they aren't directly mentioned in the games.
  21. If I understand correctly, you have registered the game? Assuming so, and assuming that the problem for sure is with the scripts, I believe I know an easy solution. Copy your preferences file to a safe place, then delete and reinstall the game. Replace the game's newly written preferences file with the original one that you copied and saved.
  22. Edit: While trying to post, I repeatedly got an ISE message. So then I tried to post again. And again.
  23. The "east" line is missing a semicolon. Maybe an SDF could be used to chart whether a belt has moved a player yet, with one for each player (6). Set them to a number after moving a player, and reset them every turn. If you want the belt to stop you can set all the SDFs to the inactive value. Will monsters also need to walk on the belt?
