  2. My copy of BoE just arrived in the mail today. Your turn.
  3. Make creatures only move in one compass direction? I want to have all my creatures in group x only move to the west. If something is in their way, then try NW then SW, and if nothing is possible there, then to fidget and say "Hurry, get out of my way." I would do a cutscene, but I think it would be more fun to have the party be able to move about. They will be trying to get east.
  4. I figured something would drive me to purchase BoE... At least it wasn't the constant badgering of the BoE is better than BoA folks.
  5. Ocean Bound would then prove the exception?
  6. I rate stareye's judging methodology with 5 snowy plovers. (Extra point for fawning support of Bain ) Drakefyre's method is awarded 2.5 rusty nails in an old tin can. By popular choice, as well as sheer momentum, stareye wins the 8th People's Choice Awards. Drakefyre now must straighten out his nails and pound them into the snowy plovers and cook dinner. (Please, someone get me coffee!!!)
  7. The identity and temporary mailing addresses of the judges should be available prior to judging if there is to be any reliable method of bribery. Just sayin', ya know?
  8. If I do get the honor of judging, I would like there to be be several criteria for scoring a scenario. Has this been discussed already? I'm talking about atmosphere, presentation, scripting "wow"s, etc. Typically when grading a multifaceted thing like a scenario, you can assign letter grades across each category, and then let the judge assign a weighting to that scenario. For instance, if scenario X is really well scripted (A) and is flowing logically (, but the atmosphere and graphics (E) just make you want to stab your eyeballs, the judge could then heavily weight the atmosphere, award an overall C, and explain in their comments how that judgement was reached. The next judge may not care so much about the graphics, and prefers the story is really cool, weighting that more and having it end up as a B. An arbitrator could compile the weighted scores for each scenario (C and B above) and average them, awarding a numerical winner that is based on player/judging preferences. I prefer to think of this as the Complexosimpleton Methodology of Thought Transferance and Complication. Or CMTTC for simplicities sake.
  9. Zones, towns, sections. It seemed to folks in the discussion that what mattered for size was the depth of the story. Empty outdoors was small, while a town that changed 6 times over the course of the scenario was large. That is why we talked about adding together non-dialogue scripts to come up with the number of zones. Also, is Best Utility still a category? I remember some discussion on how to best include things like the 3D Editor and Alint.
  10. You can rate it at the Lyceum too. Congratulations Gizmo, maybe someday you'll port it to BoA so that I can play it too?
  11. Use summoning, or write a script that attachs the creatures to the caster (bodyguard.txt?). Or perhaps the scenario takes place in an area where shaping is disrupted and creations are unstable, exploding or changing or disappearing.
  12. Quote: Originally written by Randomizer: I'm getting tired of the plot. Maybe Jeff can do something interesting in GF5, but I would like to see something seriously different. There is a whole world where Shapers aren't known or weren't in GF1. The Sholai had't heard of them because of the ocean. You could have a more advanced shaper going through an area where there isn't the support for learning except for combat and magic skills. Um, this would be BoG. Which isn't in the cards for at least a year. Patience, and practice with BoA until then. There is nothing that says you can't make a Geneforge world using the BoA engine.
  13. The same, or not the same, it doesn't exactly matter. You can use the check_floor instead if the terrain will be shifting a lot. It would be simple to have a digable planet if there were 3 to 4 duplicate floors. I would still encourage terrain/floor checking over location checks. You might also be able to do things with is_stain_on_space and alternative responses ("You dig down a few feet only to find a partially decomposed elf. You quickly cover it up and vow never to speak of it again.")
  14. Freely admitting that I am an idiot and that this reply may come too late in the game, why the hell are you checking x,y locations??? Wouldn't it be simpler to have a digable terrain? That way, each time the "Dig with shovel" special ability is called you only have to check under each of the four (or so) characters and see if (get_terrain) matches the special type. If not, then of course the "Nothing is found" message can be displayed (or ground is too hard, too soft, farmer tries to shoot you, etc...) That's my two cents worth.

Quote: Originally written by Thuryl: I need the following graphics for my scenario: * A dialogue picture that looks like Rupert Murdoch, only dressed up to look like a stereotypical chieftain from a savage tribe -- bone through the nose, feathered headdress, etc. If you can make a monster graphic to go along with it, that'd be great too. * A hot air balloon. I'd like at least three graphics for this: one deflated with the balloon part stuck in the branches of a tree and the basket resting on the ground, one deflated with the balloon and basket both lying on the ground, and one with the balloon fully inflated. * A giant holding a musket. Make him look as threatening as possible. Ideally, his attack animation should involve lightning bolts shooting out of the gun, and his death animation should involve a crack opening in the earth beneath him and him falling through. If anyone can supply any of these, I'd very much appreciate it. This is not a joke. You are a strange, strange manchild.
  16. A person could also just change to terrain script to something other than door.txt by first clicking on the door, and then clicking on the word "script" as it displays under the map.

  18. Wow. Really. Just wow. Truely necromatic.
  19. The 3D editor puts the x,y coordinates of the center point in the editing window, right below all the icons. *checks* It is the third line from the bottom in the lower right corner. Also, Kel made a special ability in that shows the coordinates in-game.
  20. Please post more than one line of script at a time. That said, look to your last line containing parentheses. It is missing a right parenthesis.
  21. You could try tossing some old silverware into the CPU case. That tends to slow things down a bit. Or switch back to Windows 2000, it runs all the good stuff and is cheap on auction sites.
  22. It never hurts to ask the man himself. Shoot Jeff an email (spidweb at spiderwebsoftware.com) asking him if that is possible. It is likely that he will say yes, and ask that you download the three demo copies, provide him with the three registration codes, and he will charge your card and give you the three keys. Try to remember to ask for the character editor keys as well, I forget that part. Edit- Comedy Central must have run out of programming, since Jeff is roaming the boards looking for fresh victims. Jump up and down and scream at him and he may notice this thread.
  23. Shame on you Thuryl. According to the official web ordering place for Spiderweb Software , the Exile Trilogy costs $25, and the hint book set for the Trilogy costs $15. There is a shipping gratuity, and likely taxes if you live in an oppressive state. Edit - I got carried away and put a smiley in my post. I apologize and have removed the offending character. Flagellation will commence forthwith.
  24. Quote: First written now by Salmon the Intolerable: ...Long tirade about pride and prejudice... Tightened up the text a little so that Thralni could exercise his god given right to skim over a post and then offer critical commentary. Edit - Apologies to the bugs for intruding on their territory. Please, stay out of my soup.
