  1. Ess, Maybe I was off with “over-reaching”. It was more condescending than anything else. You seem to have a low opinion of the folks who might be using BoE. Everyone knows it’s open source, and will natively look, if they care, to the readme for mod info. That is how things are done. Many of your suggestions mandates do nothing to improve the distribution as anything (as you pointed out) can happen once it hits the internet. When I play a SW game, I click the start menu link which only tells me “Avernum 2”. That is a shortcut, and I never ever ever see the file name. The splash shows the version number. It’d be helpful to listen to critiques such as mine, rather than to just dismiss them as uninformed or irrelevant. There are elegant ways to achieve results.
  2. Ess, your requests just seem over-reaching. BoE is open source, and the license for release mentions none of the things you cite. If the problem is that it is being promoted on official forums, then you need to be consistent and insist that all promoted releases (scenarios, etc) receive the same level of scrutiny. All the “problems” you mentioned just aren’t real. Plus, ADoS is right. Renaming the files could be problematic and literally all he needs to do is add “modified to work with Windows 10” to the splash screen and put his change log in the read me.txt. Everything else is micromanagey, and serves no use other than sapping enthusiasm.
  3. Ess, if BoE is open source, aren't all releases modifications to some extent with no central distribtion or version control? Not to be overly critical, but you aren't sounding very supportive of the efforts to keep alive the vehicle (BoE) that allows hundreds of scenarios to be played. All of that work by so many individuals is now available on Windows 10. Not many people will be designing new material with BoE, but it's great news that there is once again a way to revisit the past. What you are asking for would not augment my experience as a player at all. It's like demanding a CD player maker to detail all the changes they made with a new deck, when the only true functionality that matters is that it makes music from 1s and 0s.
  4. When did Drakey issued custom titles get wiped?
  5. Funny that OP disappeared. You know, because that was your suggested spot in the cutscene...
  6. Granted. You are now a NPC, but are unaware of it. I wish I had some TP for my bunghole.
  7. Granted, the worldwide panic over COVID-19 has prompted Donald Turnip to shut down the internet over fears that the virus is more malicious than formerly imagined. I wish Sanders would win the nomination and pick Buttigieg for his running mate.
  8. Thanks Kel! I did play the demo, as much as I could, but then life intervened and I didn't consider purchase. Probably shouldn't think I could finish it now, but whatever. I didn't ever finish A3 (2.0) despite E3 being the hook that captured me. I do agree that Queen's Wish is pretty cool, but I wasn't a big fan of the Ultima-like persona tests to start. I'll get to reading the reviews.
  9. I always figured that E3 was actually the lead-in to the prequel, and we finally figure out that it's kind of a Groundhog's Day moment when the Empire squashes the peninsular rebellion by tossing everyone into a new underworld that has progressively fewer and fewer natural resources.
  10. By that, I mean how do people rate it in comparison to other great Vogelian scripts? Replayable? Engaging? In short, will I care enough to make this something worth finishing, given the myriad other things to which I need to attend?
  11. Agreed that the majority of posts were related to BoE and BoA. There were sub-groups related to the niche (non-Vogel) games, and abusive satellite forums that memed here. I'm still astounded that so many encouraged the RosieCat stuff. This place was quite the Lord of the Flies zone back in the day. Jeff and his moderators/admins have done an admirable job balancing community quality and quantity.
  12. Regardless of pronunciation, this is a pretty good talk. If you are interested in either plumbing the depths of Jeff's psyche, or starting your own business (his talk applies to ALL start-ups), you should listen to this. It's less than 1 hour. You can afford it. ps, get an accountant.
  13. You neglected to rank the fifth item in this list.
  14. Alternatively, 1st quarter 2018 for Mac and Windows.
  15. If you wanted to limit the use of magic or items or whatever. Constricted gameplay, basically.
  16. Is it possible for a scenario to come bundled with an interface skin? This would give the designer some additional tools in governing play, assuming that keystrokes could be disabled.
  17. I was going to put up a long post with multi quotes and different responses and be all organized and stuff, but then I remembered it was the internet, and nobody really reads anyway. So I'll put in my two cents. 1- Gender labels and questions. We really don't need them if we're trying to be honest. It only really matters to the person with whom you wish to co-habitat, and maybe not even then. The only question I can think of which would be most inclusive would be "Are you comfortable and aware of your gender?" Maybe if you wanted to get crazy, make it two questions. All the other stuff is micro-managey. 2- Slarty works his ass off to make these polls. No idea why, unless he likes the practice (or the mild abuse). If you have criticisms or suggestions, despite the time-honored tradition of ignoring one's own advice, send him a private message. So, thanks Slarty for sticking with the community even though it doesn't always give you the praises which you deserve. 4- We do need more spontaneous user content. I miss the line art.
  18. Consider this my response. Now, if Drakefire and TM show up I'll be impressed.
  19. This could even be something as mundane as leaky memory. Ie, a hardware issue.
  20. I was speaking more from the role playing stance. I'm a hunter, not a gatherer. I'm walking around finding enemies and killing them, using whatever is available. Does it really seem in-character to pause after the fight to gather up everything so I can bring it back to various traders for an exchange into gold, or to save those extra potions that'll never be used in battle because I put them in some save-location? Hell no. Make potions have an expiration date. Make wands have a breakage chance for every step you take. This idea that you need to save up a bunch of crap throughout a game instance is crazy. Cleaning? Nope, you are depriving every other resident of the underworld a chance to get some battlefield loot after the real warriors have moved on to the next fight. Let them worry about setting up house.
