Rent-an-Ihrno replied to Lord Sylak's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
the empire in the imperial age. some continents struggle for freedom... or: all peoples live in peace and harmony, until a group of nerds decide to take over the world, starting from a small town that likes the idea, and they call themselves the empire. will you fight them? or join them? (haha, damn geneforge.) -

Av3: Under Troglo Castle?

i think you have to use move mountains to get through the wall, then into a chamber where the wizard king whatever lives and kill him. -
need advice
Rent-an-Ihrno replied to tomster's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
playing avernum from beginning to end is definately the most satisfying solution. if you only want to spend money for 1 more at the time, maybe a3 is the best choice, because its much, much bigger than the other avernums. its plot is not as good as the one of a2 and it doesnt have that cave-feeling, but its fun enough to produce some maniacs out there no doubt. -

imagine the possibilities! when fighting a dragon, for example, being pantless could disgust it so much it falls over and breaks its neck. or sitting in the forest wearing extremely colourful clothes attracts some kind of elves, blablabla. what would naturally fit well to all that is a very, very old adventure-system - randomly given attributes of characters. of course not in an extend similar to those very, very old adventure games. -

there already is a boa-scenario that starts from when most avernites have settled valorim, but some stayed below, getting trouble with the sliths again. forgot the name. however, i dont think jeff would just steal that idea. @panther: thanks @spawn: are you alright? -

A2: Erika is mad at me
Rent-an-Ihrno replied to Lady of Lorelei's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
im sorry solberg old lad, i like you and stuff, but you just dont bring it anymore. i mean hey, even patrick couldve whupped your ass. if erika wasnt there, x would be the greatest archmage of avernum, then linda. you, however, are waaay back down there on the list. @toenail: grrr. -

always save when you enter a settlement, then you wont have to reset anything. you dont actually need erika in a2 and a3 (in a1 you do), but anyway, you DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO TOUCH HER, YOU... YOU... ERIKA-TOUCHING SCUM!! -

i think it would be interesting if npcs reacted to the looks of your characters. for example, a townguard would let you in if you have a beautiful, half-naked woman with you. you get my meaning. -

to do that, youd almost have to make a whole new concept. real-time 3d or something. like world of warcraft. whatever. bla. shut up. -

i didnt mean that picking a race means picking a class, of course. a more complicated political situation between all the races would certainly make that point more interesting. -

i think if there were REAL differences between the choosable races, the vahnatai could keep their uniqueness. you know, like diablo or something. other spells, some other skills and traits, etc. (referring to all the choosable races, of course. like the sliths would get more out of each point in strength and have better spear- and priestskills, like being able to enchant a slith spear, etc) what an idea. skills for melee and bow. double swing or something. -

games like boa consume a lot of his power and integrity as a game-maker. its like letting a child move into its own apartment... the engine is his, but the scenarios are not of his making. -

id like to see beast ceremony back, too, along with wound and area-based single-shot spells. i think avernums engine is totally fine. improvement, however, is always good - if it really is an improvement. geneforge, imo, was none. i could become friends with a real-time avernum, but not in the geneforge style. a little world of warcraft-flair would be cool. what i have always pledged for is the possibility to choose not only all the races, but political side and the like too. the greatest thing would be a multiplayer-avernum.... where you can talk through your characters, have adventure love stories and stuff like that you know beside the single-player plot-based version, like ultima/wow. or do whole thing similar to diablo. -
Simulacrum is far too powerful.

unless you cheat or have simulacrum-usage as a primary goal, its only that effective at very late stages. -
Help - A2
Rent-an-Ihrno replied to saintofsword's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
i robbed the castle once in my career - and if im not gravely mistaken, my party got similar symptoms. either the disease/poisoning is caused by a very powerful trap in the treasure area, or you killed someone important, getting the dread curse. i think thats what happened to me. -

the barrier tower is an important place later in the game. until then, i dont think you can enter it before that (at least not without getting unlock doors 3 and dispell field 3 by the editor). SPOILER inside you find a magician circling around the exact same guy, only he is imprisoned in a rune circle. one of them is a demon who pretends being his own guard mage and both will tell you the other one is the demon... then you can decide whom to help. or do nothing. i think you have to help the right one to get what you came for, a book on teleportation, which you need to destroy the empire mass teleporter (one of the 3 game-winning quests). was there something more? dont remember.
