if youre planning on attacking her, dont. its not a good idea tempering with her, in any of the games. you only have to speak with her in a1 i think. in a2 she only gives you an advice about talking to pyrn and in a3 she only gives you her boon and teaches you magery, as always. might be wrong, though.

basically, all you have to do is get the onyx scepter from sulfras, the ritual from pyrn (at least i think it was him... some kinda minor wizard) and work the controls in the control room in the portal fortress. if youre trying to close the portal without success, you have forgotten one of these things or not completed the whole thing you had to do for it. i messed it up myself once because i didnt say something to pyrn, i think, though i already knew the ritual, or something like that.

how do you know that? i think its just there because.. well.. it is there. there are hundreds of unreachable areas, dead-end-caverns without anything in them etc. throughout all avernum games.

i think avernum needs more possibilities. in a2 and 3, there is only one large storyline you have to follow. in a1, there isnt any at all, really. i would find it much more interesting if it was more like the EV series. a huge world, filled with different plots, races, etc etc etc and you can choose where to go and which line to follow. for that, it would be good (though not necessary) to be able to choose more kinds of PCs. (just imagine playing a cave slime destroying the human race! )

no idea about the machine, sry. if i remember correctly, you have to go all the way round the mountains on the west side, enter the giant fort, leave to the west, go south and enter the barrier tunnel from the east. there you can mess around with some vahnatai beams and watch a large battle. quest done.

depends on how many chars you have etc. without the editor, you shouldve more or less just come up to the surface. using the editor, you should be on your way to sharimik or even past that.

@samurai: keep an eye on your grammer, that post of yours is easily misunderstood. now that i read this topic again, i suddenly felt a strong urge to play a3 again. i think ill do that. thanks for finally dragging me away from diablo2 lod.

i usually empty towns out, too. most of the times, i do that right after ive first entered the village and i know i wont need it. well ok in the beginning that only works with character editor. but in later stages, like, when youre getting near to footracer province, its the most fun i find to do. edit: i never burn a hair of animals or other friendly creatures like most nephilim, some slith tribes etc. i get all my satisfaction of killing people.

for some people, hearing some some crazy, virtual spiders saying stuff like "you're cute!" etc surely does good to their ego. i can only recommend to talk with some gifts if you dont have a rl that could have the same effect on you.

either the fortress of hss-thss from where i could conquer avernum or in softport. i dont say lorelei or krizsan out of protest.

you dont really need her. if you still want to have her back, youll have to copy some game files (not your savegames) and overwrite yours. i dont exactly remember which, though. or start a new game.

be glad you dont see it. its totally unspectacular. plus, erika dies. i liked erika.

if it says rentar is nervous etc, youve done it right. from there on, youll just have to try to get to the control panel. your amulet is definately activated if erika has helped you before. like when you go down into vahnatai lands, she will blow away some walls for you. even if its not activated, it doesnt really matter. just let yourself get teleported away a couple of times and dont get killed.

i dont care about killing innocent people. sometimes its even quite fun. what i never ever do when i dont have to though, is wipe out some "evil" village of some "evil" creatures. take sliths for example. theyre just some lizard people who want to live in peace. but of course, theyre misunderstand and fought until near distinction. thats FASCISM. imo. (of course its just a game blah blah... but i always try to play games like i live my life. most of the times.)
