With a tighter grip on the reality of Czeda, more ambitious works are surely in reach. Spread Caud spreads forests north-east along the mountain range. In the icy cold of the highest peaks, though, stunted trees shrivel and die, leaving only patches of grass and hardy undergrowth. Discourage Caud cools the land north of the forest, making conditions as harsh as those atop mountains. Even the most desperate of life-forms have little hope of survival here. Evaporate Caud turns back to the west of the volcano. Rain flows from the mountains of ice, flooding the land below; waves reach from the sea to drown the southern part of the continent. This is but temporary. Caud brings to bear a great heat, melting only a little of the northerly ice, evaporating the water and leaving behind a vast salt flat. Contrast Caud raises a single mountain as in island in this bleak landscape, visible for miles around.

Fire and smoke burst from one of the isles, cleansing the land and laying down a blanket of fine ash. A river of lava flows lazily down from the crater left behind. Contain Caud barely manages to restrict the eruption to the island, the sky nearly choked by ash. The island is lost for now, though; there the fabric of the world is worn too thin, nothingness too close. Shield Fearing further leaks of power, Caud strengthens its hold on the world, focussing its consciousness on the mesa raised in its honour.

No more can be done for now; Caud must simply wait for more power to leak through from the beyond.

They will pass down legends that seek to contain and to explain that which is far beyond their understanding. They may tell of how, coiled tightly between the worlds, there lies another plane of existence, a writhing, formless realm, constantly made and remade by an infinity of tormented creators. And that Caud emerged from there. Caud pauses for a moment (or perhaps for an eternity?), revelling in the stillness of the nascent world. There is much to be done. It wonders if allowing one facet of creation dominance over the lands is wise. A new type of tree, pointed and reaching to the sky, is laid down to the south of the mirror of the gods. Protect Caud realises that the jungle to the north would be suited to the warmth of the lands covered by the new forests. Seeds carried by the winds or by other creators may take hold and reshape the new lands. Caud forces the shell of Czeda into itself, raising mighty mountains and making the lands too chill and ragged for other plants to grow.

  8. i did a bit of reorganisation, putting the scenario data stuff into a separate page, and added some stuff that may or may not be correct.
  9. I wonder if something like a wiki (or maybe just a shared google doc / piratepad) would be a sensible place to keep what's been worked out about the format, otherwise it's getting a bit scattered through the thread.
  10. floor types etc. aren't hard-coded, they're about where you said they might be (i think walls are at +48908). when i'm a bit more certain of things i'll put details of how they work up.
  11. If Jeff is actually ok with the creation of an editor and gives the scenario format (i.e. the relevant header files/whatever from the game) I'd be interested. I thought there was a licence agreement thing saying that you wouldn't reverse engineer etc. (definitely one for BoA) but I can't seem to find it in the GF5 files. If there isn't anything forbidding that, I might (hypothetically) say that I'd messed around a tiny bit with the scendat shortly after GF5 came out, but didn't do much and no longer have what I did.

If Jeff said he was ok with someone making an unsupported editor, that would be sort-of doable (obviously would help if he also gave out at least the scenario format!), but I don't think there would be enough interest in making stuff anyway, and it's not like he has anything to gain by doing it.
  13. Nice work! Seeing this made me open up the editor again. A while ago I had a go at some vaguely similar stuff for climbing, but it required a lot of special rects. If it's alright with you I'll use a slightly modified version of this too (assuming I ever get round to finishing the scenario, which is pretty unlikely).

If you open up the Blades of Avernum application bundle (right-click -> show package contents) in the Avernum Complete Saga folder, then go to Contents->Resources->game, you'll see that it contains Blades of Avernum, Blades of Avernum Files and Blades of Avernum Scenarios. It's probably best to just copy those somewhere else (like into a Blades folder in the Avernum Complete Saga folder) so that the 3D editor can see the files - the folder to choose is Blades of Avernum Files - and also so that you can install scenarios more easily.

But...no, Tembra is not ready for such an eruption. Trees struggle to grow in the land surrounding the forest. Flourish encourages shrubs and grasses to sprout. Life begins to come to the island east of the volcanic ridge. Capillary In preparation for future eruptions, Flourish provides nourishment for the forest, laying down a network of rivers. (I think advancement is already decided anyway)

Compensating, the forests spread into the interior of the eastern continent. Seeds are carried across the waters by migrating birds, sprouting on an island to the south. (Interlude) Flourish ponders the works of the others again. There is still much to be done, but what? Attempt to balance the deities' actions? Shroud No; for it was the imbalance in Tembra that first awakened Flourish. Flourish wraps an island in strands of fog, that it might be hidden from the beasts of the world. Spire Lava pours from the rift beneath the sea, forcing the sea floor itself to move. The stresses within Tembra lift the island up, its peak reaching up through the fog towards the heavens. Store Flourish places a fragment of its own power atop the mountain, for any worthy enough to know of the secret place.
