Articulate Vlish NamelessOne
Hi there. Im really ramping up with these games. I played Geneforge 1-3 as a solo agent that used daze and blades. It was a lot of fun. As 3 was a breeze, now Im onto Geneforge 4. I want to play as a completely different character this time to try something new. How bout a Guardian? Can they solo the game like an agent or should I try this shock trooper character. I really like solo characters as you get all the exp to yourself. Ineffable Wingbolt Mosquito---Slayer
I recommend a servile, he is probably one of the strongest classes and can go solo, shocktrooper is basically a shaper who can fight so he isn't very useful if you like going solo. (Also yes, Warrior can go solo too but it's tougher than a servile or an agent.)
Articulate Vlish NamelessOne
Interesting. What skills does a warrior need for solo? For my previous agent I specialized in mental/spellcraft, strength, endurance and blades and the works. Will that work for the warrior or is there something else I should put points to. Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
A warrior is the Rebel version of a guardian. Mental/spellcraft is expensive so hold off until you get training. Buy the daze spell and go either with melee attacks or missile weapons.
Easygoing Eyebeast Triumph
The difference between the Warrior and Servile are the while both get cheap weapon skills, Warrior has very expensive Magic while Servile has cheaper Magic. If you want to play the build you described, but NOT use an agent (or rather the G4 equivalent, the Infiltrator), the Servile is superior to the Warrior simply because you won't so burn many skill points on Magic. Easygoing Eyebeast Goldengirl
That said, as Synergy proved a few years back with the Insidious Infiltrator, it is entirely possible and fun to go with the Infiltrator (= Agent) and dominate the game. Articulate Vlish NamelessOne
Ah the heck with it. I just read something about the usefulness of parry. Ill go all out with parry and use healing magic for augment. I believe warriors get that cheap. It cant be that bad on normal.
Magnificent Ornk Student of Trinity
I'm pretty sure that parry was really only totally wonderful in G2. Solo serviles are quite fun in G4. If you're dedicated to solo, then you want to let shaping be your weakest aspect, so that's down to agent/infiltrator or servile. If you're tired of agents, then servile will let you try something different, in that it does a lot more melee. A well built servile can be like some kind of engineered super-soldier. With magic! Serviles can get good enough in melee, in fact, that you may want to focus all your magic on mental. This is a good idea for playing on higher difficulty levels especially, since monsters don't seem to get particularly hard to charm even on Torment. As Delicious Vlish used to put it, it's not nearly as bad to have your enemies get stronger, if your enemies are also your weapons.
Ineffable Wingbolt Mosquito---Slayer
Yeah, Parry is not a bad skill to have, but going all out with it was really great only in G2, in G4 other skills might serve you better, get it to 8, maybe 10 if you really wish, but that should be it. Easygoing Eyebeast Triumph
Parry debuted in G2 and was uber-powerful. Jeff weakened it in G3. He weakened it again in G4. And (IIRC) weakened it again in G5.
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
Jeff will keep weakening parry until it's almost useless. He did it in Avernum and Avadon too. Triumph
Garrulous Glaahk Ohsky
Then he put Spine shield and spines to be attached to armor via anvil and then laugh at the elimination of Riposte from G2.
Ineffable Wingbolt BMA
Interesting. I know nothing of parry as I only ever played the run-throughs I completed as a Shaper.
Easygoing Eyebeast Triumph
Jeff will keep weakening parry until it's almost useless. He did it in Avernum and Avadon too. There's only been one Avadon game. How can Jeff have weakened it in that series???
Garrulous Glaahk Ohsky
Parry seems to be still useful on G4 wich im playing now. You gain a 2% chance for each level on that skill, it´s not awesome but not bad either. It can save your life
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
Avadon used to have more Blademaster only items that increased Parry until in beta testing he saw how high it could go with my player character. I think I got it to 65% before he changed things. Future games will keep it from ever going above 50% again. Also Riposte got weakened so you always take damage.
