Fledgling Fyora Bereval
While Avernum is an astonishing game, what astonishes me even more is that no new player character models have been created. I'm not talking about replacing the old ones, but adding more of them. The possibilities are countless and a lot of new awesome models representing different character classes could have been made, but it has not happened. It's really puzzling me why haven't the devs undertaken this simple task. Of course this game isn't about graphics but having more choices for your character's appearance would still be a great bonus.
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
It takes time to make the graphics since you need several poses for each new model. Walking animations weren't added until Avadon to reduce the number of poses. This is one of the last parts that gets done when Jeff adds new ones. Welcome to Spiderweb Software. Please leave your sanity at the door.
Hatchling Cockatrice Quiconque
Poser... oh man. Magnificent Ornk Dikiyoba
Didn't A4 only have a few PC graphics? So each game in the second Avernum trilogy has added new PC graphics, it's just that the portraits have been taken from the old Avernum trilogy. Dikiyoba. Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
A4 had only a few nephil and slith PC portraits so you needed to use color changes to distinguish your party. Most of A4 graphics were taken from GF3 when Jeff revised the game engine.
Rotghroth Rhapsody madrigan
This is a pretty long way from "astonishing." Spiderweb isn't Bioware. Jeff doesn't have dozens of staff around the world and millions of dollars. When you have limited resources, you allocate most of them to the most important things. Story and functionality is first. New character images is like fortieth. Spiderweb still exists because decisions have been prioritized in this way.
Easygoing Eyebeast The Mystic
Yeah, Jeff's games are actually awesome, considering his budget. With the way some (okay, most) big companies make games, I'm surprised those companies are still in business.
Understated Ur-Drakon Earth
big companies make massgames which hit to ppls better than SpidWeb's games and have money to spend on huge marketing and they can make next big hit game 2-5 years (if SpidWeb would do same it would be be at bankrupt) and during that make minor hits (sequels). Easygoing Eyebeast The Mystic
True, but overall, all the big companies' games have going for them is good graphics and a highly skilled marketing department. Jeff's games have good plot, great dialogue, fairly well-balanced engines, and (from what I've seen of today's standards) abnormally high replay value. Unflappable Drayk Ceiling Durkheim
Bonus points for reference to Mechtild of Magdeburg.
Ineffable Wingbolt Erebus the Black
Most game companies nowadays have gone through a greedy/evil metamorphosis. They've started saying: Here's our game, but it's not complete, if you want the rest of it you need to buy the other five segments of the game for the same exorbitant(I actually learned this word from E/A) price as you payed for the first game, and if you want to finish the game in your lifetime we will charge you another 10,000$ in order to upgrade tidbits that would otherwise drive you crazy. Understated Ur-Drakon Earth
some DLCs might not end in CE.
