  1. I am having all the same problems listed in the above posts. I understand the concept, but can't follow it through when half the characters die almost immediately and/or one or two get scared and run away, causing me to start over. . . and over. . . and over. My characters are levels 36-38. . .is that enough? I can't seem to get far enough away to avoid the killer spells and still be able to hit the designated pylon. I've gone away and done other things and come back several times, with no better results.

  2. Well, I know y'all are tired of hearing from me. . . there are two quests I can't find. . . one is the lich north of Cotra (I think it's Kavarus, from what I've read). I already did the dancing bones quest. The other is the slith spy near Ft. Dranlon. I've seen him a couple of times, and he does that dropping into the pit thing, but can't find the tunnel that's supposed to lead me to his hideout. I try to use the world map without a lot of success.

  3. I got it! Thanks, everyone!

Another question about hidden brigands. . . I have the quest from Spire about "hidden brigands to the west", but aren't sure who that is. I've been to the woods area and killed all the darkside loyalists, but Diver doesn't comment about that, so I guess those weren't the ones. What am I missing?

  4. I went to Cotra and spoke with the commander there. She gave me the job of looking for the missing mage. So I start out west and don't get very far before Cotra soldiers start attacking me. Now I can't go anywhere near Cotra without being attacked, including by the commander. What happened? I guess I'll have to go way back in my saved games and start this part again. Grrr. . .

  5. I am trying to finish Mother Alice's quest to check on her claims. . . I thought I had done all 3, then I read that you have to actually read the signs, so I'm trying to go back and double check that I did that. But now I can't find them. . . very frustrating. . . any tips?

  6. I persevered and finished A5, limping bruised and bloodied to the end.

I realize I'm likely not the primary demographic of an rpg, but I do enjoy the ones with some choices to make that affect the outcome, with some puzzling things to figure out, and a little humor thrown in. I'm not so keen on the fighting required, but recognize that it's a key part of the genre, so I go with it.

I found Avernum 4 and Avadon a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed them. I've played them through several times, seeking different outcomes each time. To me, they had a good balance of difficulty, fighting, and things to figure out. I liked them so much I bought Avernum Escape from the Pit, which I also enjoyed for the same reasons.

So, I began looking into the rest of the series and bought Avernum 5. While there are many things about it that I do like, it has just been too hard to be fun. I was surprised to find the difficulty so much higher on this game! It was very difficult to have enough access to all the healing/energy potions you needed, much less have enough money to buy them. About halfway through, I gave up and used the healing cheats the rest of the way. It was either that or quit completely.

I may give A6 a go, just to see how it works. I do thank everyone on this forum for all the times they helped me over particularly rough spots! It's a great community of support.
