  1. Cautiously approach the newly emerged fyora, and see if he appears friendly. If so, throw my cloak over the spawner (to hide it), call the teacher back, and tell them that we shaped a fyora. If not, check if there is anything nearby that I could use to defend myself.
  2. 1) Open a store. 2) Pick some rare item that adventures really like. 3) Stock a small number of them. 4) Stock a bunch of other easy to find, over priced items. 5) Refuse to restock any sold-out items until every item in the store is bought out. 6) Profit!!
  3. This preview claims the estimated release date is the end of October, but I'm not sure how much trust to put in that: http://leviathyn.com...uption-preview/
  4. And that it includes mental resistance as well (e.g., charming), which makes it very nice for non-spell casters, since they are often weak in mental resistance (due to low intelligence).
  5. Getting back to the original topic of the the thread (I know, I know, that's not how we roll around here ...), I know that I have been posting less now that I'm not actively playing through any Spiderweb games. I come by every few days to see if there are any updates on Avadon 2, and will sometimes respond if I see anything posted that piques my interest (or any questions in the game forums that Randomizer hasn't already answered ). But, I expect my post volume will go back up once Avadon 2 comes out. Unless, of course, it comes out right as I'm getting ready for my thesis defense - which unfortunately seems to be becoming more and more likely ...
  6. Putting a few points of priest spells on a front-line tank/melee character can be quite effective as well. In addition to giving you another character who can cast unshackle mind and healing spells, it also starts to open the path to resistance, which is a nice skill for a damage-absorbing tank. (Note that healing spells, including unshackle mind, are not dependent on intelligence, so your tank can continue to invest stat points in strength and endurance, and still be an effective second healer). I prefer this route over giving a mage some priest spells, because you want to use your mage's turn for their specialty - dealing damage with AOE spells
  7. Those adventurers really aren't very smart. They steal anything that's left on the ground, but then they leave their own things on the ground and just assume that they will be there when they come back for them Whenever I see those adventuring scum come to town, I discretely follow them until they drop something, and then sneak over and grab it. Whether or not I witnessed them stealing anything. Practically all the stuff they "own" is stolen property - either from townsfolk, or from poor little monsters who just wanted to be left alone and have a dungeon to call their own. So, really all I'm doing is seizing their stolen goods. Which is well within my purvue as an official representative of the law enforcement authority of the Kingdom of Avernum.
  8. For those who haven't seen the preview Death Knight mentioned, you can find it at: http://indierpgs.com...s-out-avadon-2/ The Tinkermage class seems like it might allow for some interesting tactics. Getting excited!
  9. I finished Feast For Crows last week, and I have to say I liked it more than I expected. I had seen reviews saying that it was the slowest, least interesting of the books in the series. I will admit that it was a bit slower paced, but I loved the world-building aspects of it - reading about new places and new parts of the history. Also, it seemed to do some necessary tying up of loose ends after all the events that happened in Storm of Swords, and some "moving of pieces" to set up what I'm hoping are going be some really interesting events in the future. Now I'm looking forward to finding out what the other half of the characters were up to during all of this.
  10. If you are using a four person party, the game is certainly beatable on torment, without the remix, with a wide variety of character types. There are certain characters types that are a little better than others (e.g., dual-wielding sword fighters are more effective than polearm fighters). However, unless you are trying to do something masochistic like a "torment singleton" , other reasonable character types (polearm specialists, archers, warrior-priests) can have a useful place in an torment-beating party. This is not meant to discourage your usage of the remix (go for it!), just to correct the misconception that some of the guides give that you can only use a very limited set of character types and still beat the hardest difficulties. The best example, IMHO, is RBD's torment playthrough, linked here.
  11. I'd almost managed to block those memories ... Now I know what tonight's nightmare will be!
  12. I don't know, I still have nightmares about the GIFTS. And don't get me started on the Chitrichs ...
  13. Looking at the 5th Avadon 2 screenshot, it appears that it will be easier to get to the top-tier skills. They look to only have a single prerequisite (either left or right), rather than two prerequisites they had in Avadon 1 (left and middle, or right and middle). Maybe this will make them more reasonable to target/allow more build flexibility? In any case, I'm looking forward to trying it out!
  14. The blessed breastplate is good for a tank, and can be gotten fairly early from that cache - they are some better armors later, but the blessed breastplate will serve you well for a while. Just make sure the wearer has plenty of their primary attack stat to overcome the to-hit penalty. Level 13 is a bit early to go see Erika, especially on torment. I'd try again after gaining a few more levels. Also, as you've noticed, the high-level spells use up a lot of mana which makes them difficult to cast many times until you get to a higher level (I consider 13 still fairly early for torment - I've found that many things start to get more manageable at around level 20 on that difficulty). Magical efficiency can help somewhat with being able to cast expensive spells more frequently (some people disagree, but I have found it useful in limited amounts on torment). And of course making sure you invest in intelligence for your priests and mages. For tips on what to do at various levels, the first place I'd look is the guide linked in Jerakeen's signature (http://keepersofavadon.com/WDIDN/WDIDNAEFTP.html).
  15. In Avadon, I collected plants and other decorative items, and used them to decorate my characters room. After I thought it was sufficiently decorated, I started to decorate my companions rooms to thank them for their service...
  16. R Kelly is a fan of Spiderweb games? I guess they're right when they say you learn something new every day ...
  17. Maybe not fully "half" the charm , but the miscellaneous junk that you don't know whether or not you'll need for some quest later is part of the "spiderweb ambiance". But, maybe an option to mark things as junk for those who don't like that might make sense.
  18. You can get the tinker's gloves (+1 TU) for free as a quest reward, but I agree with you that the Tinker's Bauble for 2700 is too expensive to be worth buying, especially when training it costs only 2200 (and 2200 is actually fairly expensive for training - I will often use skill points and/or the nimble fingers trait for tool use and instead use the same amount of money to buy more training in other skills) I often come back later (after a couple extra levels) before taking on Blossthus - he is harder than the rest of the Nephilim fortress, especially on torment. Same with some of the other encounters you mention.
  19. There's no use for 13 cave lore, but 12 cave lore gets you the putrified gauntlets. If you grab them, and then sell the putrified gauntlets and the first expedition ring, you can get 2100 gold (assuming all characters have the negotiator trait). In my cave lore analysis (this, as well as lots of other useful info, is linked in the Strategy Central forum topic), I argued that the training you can buy for 2100 makes it worth investing a skill point to get to 11 cave lore (you can get to 10 from free points and purchased training).
  20. What Randomizer said. Also, the cheapest place to get weapons training is in the Freehold of Kyass, after you've done a number of quests for them (the trainers in the Freehold drop their prices as you complete more quests - see posts #21-24 in this thread: http://spiderwebforu...e-pit-spoilers/)
  21. My characters always try to stock up on beer and wine so that they can throw some great parties after their adventuring days are over. I find some room to claim as my own (if I'm not given one like in Avadon), and fill it up with all the alcoholic beverages I can find (unless they are needed for some quest). I also try to make sure they have some food there, since if all the guests drink without eating they'll end up passing out. And of course you need candles to keep the party room lit up until the wee hours of the morning ...
