    Alcohol

Sake and gin are the two types of (normally drunk) alcohol that I've never liked ... both make me feel a bit queasy when I drink them for some reason. I don't have the problem with other liquors or wines, or with any beers that I've tried - so I'm not sure what the deal is with those. Actually, the gin might be because of that one night in college ... I remember very little except a large bottle of gin, some beer pong, and a porcelain throne ...
  2. Interesting ... I wasn't able to do Tassik until the high-teens levels on Torment, because of those slimes. May be worth trying out that trick on my current playthrough (once this quarter is over, maybe I'll have time to resume it ...)
  3. It also affects whether mages can cast mage spell in armor. The basic rule is that the total of all to-hit bonuses and penalties (from all equipment) must be -5 or greater.
  4. Very nice! That would have been very useful on my first play-through.
  5. Or get cacti or other succulents. Just remember to water them every time there's a full moon, and you'll be fine ... I had mine for over a decade, and I have a very brown thumb. Got rid of them when my daughter started walking, because they were all kinds with big scary thorns (scary for the parents of someone just learning to walk, that is).

I rarely get carded any more, but when I do it makes me happy that someone actually thinks I look like I could possibly be 16 years younger than I really am ...
  7. The problem is not the 95% confidence in and of itself, it's the fact that many people (including many researchers) do not understand statistical confidence levels. They think that 95% confidence means that there is a 95% chance that a finding is correct - which is a false interpretation. It really just means that there is a 5% chance of a false hypothesis being confirmed giving that level of testing. As SoT pointed out above, this means that if everyone tests their hypothesis to a 95% confidence level, then 1 out of 20 false hypotheses will appear to be true. And if there are a lot more false hypotheses being tested than true hypotheses, then the confirmed false hypotheses may equal, or even outnumber, the confirmed true hypotheses. If more people understood this, they would not accept studies as true until they had been confirmed by multiple independent studies. Unfortunately, most lay people, and even many researchers, aren't familiar enough with these statistical concepts.
  8. We of the 99% demand postcount milestone threads for all, not just the fat-cat wall-street high-post-counters! I hearby occupy this thread, and all future milestone threads, in the name of all posters with less than 1000 posts, and declare it OUR milestone thread! 340 posts, FTW!!!
  9. Also, as I think was pointed out earlier, "exploiting" it really doesn't buy you anything, since many of the best swords in the game are light enough to be wielded in your off hand. This includes IMHO the best sword in the game, the spectral falchion. So really this exploit is hardly an exploit ...
  10. I just assumed the bacon was cooked in butter ...
  11. Although, maybe the mac version will have fewer bugs initially because there will presumably be more people beta-testing prior to the release (since he'll have two versions to beta-test).
  12. I would agree about olive oil - it works as well as butter for dressing up veggies. I like bacon, but it doesn't go well with everything, despite what some people say. Our local cupcake shop made bacon cupcakes as a special a few months ago. They were not good ...
  13. The latter is actually a very good build for a tank on torment. It lets you max out both hardiness and resistance. And healing spells don't depend on intelligence, so if you put priest spells up to 8 (necessary to max out resistance) your tank can also be an effective healer, freeing up your dedicated priest(s) to cast divine fire and retribution.
  14. There's an easy fix for that. Just Add Butter. Works for pretty much any non-delicious food.
  15. An archer character can actually use thrown weapons on occasion just fine, when they need to do a little extra damage. Their high dexterity makes thrown weapons perfectly viable, even with no points to thrown weapons. And the sharpshooter skill that an archer will likely max out also applies to thrown weapons. They just can't be the primary attack, because the supply of the "good" thrown weapons is fairly limited.
  16. Now I can't get that Weird Al song about rice out of my head ...
  17. I've given up meat before, and lasted a couple years. I didn't miss it that often, except when I smelled bacon cooking ...
  18. It seems like the Andriod version caused a lot of problems, so that doesn't seem terribly likely. Not sure about the Linux version. I kind of hope it doesn't get ported to Linux - otherwise I'd be tempted to put it on my Linux machine that is supposed to be only for work and school, and then there would go all of my already minimal productivity.
  19. Great, it's coming out right around the time I'm supposed to be finishing my dissertation. I may have to filter all emails from spiderweb, and have them redelivered in December.
  20. A few years back, our parked car was hit while my wife was working the night shift at the hospital, and the other driver didn't stop to leave a note or anything. Fortunately, a pedestrian witnessed it, took down their license plate, and did write us a note (left it on our windshield). Our insurance company ran the plate to try to recover damages from the other driver. Unfortunately, the plate came back as a stolen car. But fortunately (for some reason that I don't exactly recall any more), this caused it to be classified as an incident for which we had a $100 deductible rather than a $200 deductible. I had been expecting the higher deductible, so I was impressed that the insurance company didn't try to swindle us.
  21. RaustBlackDragon was experimenting with a blessing/cursing specialist in one of his recent playthroughs, so if he might have some interesting input: http://spiderwebforums.ipbhost.com/index.php?/topic/18757-meet-the-second-dream-team/
  22. It still doesn't seem to have been "officially" announced, since I can't find any links to that page from anywhere on the spiderweb site (well, except from the forum post in this thread).
  23. Perhaps if you brush your teeth with a bottle of Tennessee's finest?
  24. It was the announcement of the iPad version of A6 that he removed, so not quite as old. But still, it's hard to say whether or not that means anything. He may just have decided the front page was too cluttered with 3 announcements.
