  1. Poke around the cave walls east of the path between Fort Saffron and Fort Spire. It's down a side passage, IIRC.
  2. From the job board, head to the southeast corner.
  3. There is no music in the actual play of the game. You should hear background sounds, like dripping water and stuff, but no in game soundtrack. If you're not hearing any sounds, pull up the Settings from the Game Menu and at the bottom you'll see Sound Settings.
  4. Her dialogue is no different whether you've been told about her first or not. Talk to the person who like Aranea fangs and she'll point you in the right direction. Very nice reward.

  6. I recall in the ancient days when I played Call of Cthulhu I enjoyed making sure my fellow party members were driven insane and eaten by horrid creatures so I could have all of their stuff.
  7. Something about Castle Vebeaux leads to your getting trapped every time you meet up with Shigaz.

  9. You figure out a way to fight your way through that next room. You have to find the leader of the group of bandits, and he's past them. How you get through them depends on your build and what you brought with you. Hopefully you stocked up on your main character for the solo section.
  10. That door under the Inn in Cotra drove me nuts for a while because that mage annoyed me the first time I talked with him, so I didn't want to talk to him again later. I thought maybe telling him that I'd found and repaired the Crystal Cave would garner some interest from him, but you never get an option to tell him that.

    Next game?

In the PnP world, there were several SF RPGs back in the day. Traveller is the big one that comes to mind, and they did a cRPG from it as I recall. I know some people don't like that your character can actually die during the process of rolling it up, though. ;-) There was also a Star Trek RPG. If you're just changing the facade ("Dammit, Jim, I'm a Doctor, not a Cleric!"), it hardly matters. A true SF RPG would want to follow some logical expansions of science, like possibly an alien-world exploration or something.

When someone is trying to rile you up, the best thing to do is walk away and ignore them because all they're looking for is a reaction. Exactly. When your uncle asks you to pull his finger, don't do it unless you're prepared for a stink.
  14. Ah, wait, I know where you are. Go to the northeast corner of the back hall and shake hands with the second statue. That switch is VERY hidden.
  15. I'm not sure Mentta is actually there until you get the quest about him. I could be wrong. It's been a while since I've done a run-through.
  16. As the Church Lady would say, "Well aren't you all special?" Special characters, that is. ;-)
  17. Mentta is The actual Valorim Bestiary is , but you have to check the others in turn first and return to the Witch to get the next place to look. I'm blanking on Dremel at the moment. Could be
  18. Sounds to me like you're still on the second level. Is that correct? If so you have more levers to pull and barriers to banish and stuff to fight and a boat ride.
  19. Wait, is checking game forums considered a distraction?
  20. So maybe dragons in Avernum are like reef fish. They change gender at some point in life based on the current needs of their life cycle.
  21. Same with Hand Gavin, though that part gets a bit more complicated.

Outside the original serial killer reference, I agree wholeheartedly with this statement. We talk a lot about how the media influences women, but not so much about the messages it sends men. It teaches us that men are beer drinking, sports watching bums and women are long suffering, naggy and cater to their whims. I don't like it one bit. This thread is starting to become the old one somewhat, in subject rather than tone. Is that an acceptable eventuality? This suffers the logical fallacy of cherry picking data points. Yes, there have ALWAYS been examples of incompetent or barely competent men used for comedic entertainments. Think back to Polonius in Hamlet, portrayed as an idiot spouting cliches and calling them wisdom. That doesn't mean that every male character in entertainment is a knock on the male psyche, or that there's a pattern of denigrating men throughout popular entertainment. The bumbling guy who somehow still manages to get by and be lovable is a staple, yes, in large part because a lot of men do wonder why the people in their lives love them when they're clearly not the supermen they think they're supposed to be.
  23. The quest giver is mistaken which town she's in. Look in Cotra.
