Ive explored all of the areas that i could and cannot get into north grosht. You're playing a warrior and all you have as help is a lousy vlish ? Consider playing a servile if you don't really care about creations. Once you kill a certain something under South Grosh the outer Fens can be cleared. You can go into North Grosh from the south and from the east.
  2. You already have all hat Brodus Blade can teach you I guess ? If you're a Barzite you can learn 3 more QA at 2000 each. Apart from that there is only the magic skills teacher in taker lands who will drain your money I think. Not that it would do you that much good without enough energy as you already realized. Speed needs Blessing Magic 3, it's all in the manual.

My junk bag has filled up with twenty thousand "unused" sword icons twice, so I may still put down the game. I dunno if this engine works even remotely like the Geneforge ones but I had savegame corruptions only affecting containers in already visited areas (was in G2). So you might have gotten lucky ? Play at least a bit further and look where things are missing.
  4. Nightwatcher, how does G4/5 run for you ? I wouldn't blame it on the netbook for now. I'm having some lag problems too in the old engine games (G1-3, A4) and I'm sure that I didn't have those years back when I played them first. Think it's either something due to newer hardware or drivers.

It's a bunch of more or less self-contained areas with the loyalists making a few cameos here and there. Whole game felt like a themepark to me.
  6. Spell points = spell energy. Quote: We will see how it works out but I've been boosting my Guardian's intelligence so he can do Fire shaping and get Speed and War Blessing. That's how I played G4 with a Warrior so it should work. Hope you don't mind that I cross-answer this here, think it fits better in this thread. I don't think that it will work particularly well. You need more energy to cast speed, get less base and only half per level compared to your GF4 warrior. Your GF4 Warrior gets 20 + Int*(Level+1) in spell energy and needs 80 to cast speed. Meanwhile the G2 Guardian gets 6 + 1/2*Int*(Level+1) and needs 100 to cast speed.
  7. Straight from the walkthrough Guardian SP (Spell Points)- 6 + 1/2 * Int * (Level + 1) Agent SP- 6 + 3/2 * Int * (Level + 1) Shaper SP- 6 + Int * (Level + 1)
  8. Painted Lady, that is exactly where it is. I've made a better pic and changed it in my first post, the green thing on the table next to the research note and the shaper equipment is the purified essence.
  9. There is a path near the middle where the drayk was, kinda tricky to see.
  10. I'm already through though I skipped most of chapter 5. Was too easy and boring. Originally Posted By: Hume Yes, it will only get worse. So your sevile acts first, then your cryoa, if that does not result a kill, it gets retaliated. Yes this was a problem with the Cryoa and Vlish acting last and thus getting hammered. I would say that the cryoa pulled its weight damagewise the whole game, the vlish on the other hand was not particularly great. Came close to absorbing him. Wingbolt was really nice and sick overpowered at the time I got him. Annoyances were not having enough essence to give them 2 Int asap which led to the cryoa and later the wingbolt choosing their own targets and often choosing poorly. F.ex. in Crenshaws Dell my cryoa decided to not kill the fyora next to me but to run off and attack the five or so rats nearby. It got swarmed, heavily damaged and went rogue hitting me for nearly all my Hps allowing a fyora to kill me. That was fun Though later on when the cryoa or vlish went rogue they never attacked me but always ran away. No idea why that changed ? Anyway, this game was a good example how strong creations are compared to going singleton. My singleton melee servile on normal was so much weaker than this one on tricky with only those 3 creations. Though I still prefer going singleton.
  11. Playing on PC and without canisters, so drayks are out. And I don't want to play a deadweight shaper, more a squadleader type. Which is why I started a melee servile who is trudging along with a cryoa and a vlish so far. I'm near Moseh atm and thus close to getting to the Fens and a wingbolt, just need to get more essence.
  12. I'm looking to give G4 another go but I thought instead of playing a melee singleton as I usually do in every Geneforge I could mix it up and try some creation support and ranged combat. Fooling around in the beginning atm and I have a few questions. Every time an enemy closes to melee and I want to use battle magic I have to move a step away. Is this going to be as annoying as it seems now for the whole game ? If I use batons is there enough ammo to use them liberally ? Because conserving my primary offense doesn't seem particularly fun. My cryoa does good damage but can't really take much itself before going rogue or dying (this is on tricky btw). I guess this will only get worse ? Seems that keeping it alive might be a really pain or involve loads of reloads ? Same would probably go for a vlish/any other sub tier-4 creation with the exception of drayks ? Edit: I never bothered to take a look at the Cairn Gates pre caravan. 8 guards that don't seem that tough and give good exp and drops. Now if they only wouldn't swarm me all at once And one can make it through the Eastern Rise with enough HP/armor/buffs, get the agate from Cormacs camp and get to the rebel camp and the training before doing Moseh Those energy pylons also seem to do the same damage regardless of difficulty ?

I've reinstalled windows a few times since, run lots of crap in the background, but my best guess is some incompatibility with the current ATI card. Had an nvidia card I had at the time. Went from Nvidia to ATI 2-3 years ago and since then have that problem with the esc menu taking ages, not sure about sluggish combat. And yeah the newer engines run perfect.
  14. Just got that all items disappear bug/save corruption/whatever. Last save that is not affected is 3 hours back. 1) Is there anything bad that can happen when I use that save and just dbugkill through the zones I have to replay ? 2) The only zone not affected is San Ru. Coincidentally my stash is also there. Could it be that there are too many items in that zone and the game gets screwed up because of that ?
  15. There should be a lever behind a tree nearby iirc. Might even be half visible. Pixelhunting

  17. So I have played though every Geneforge game at least once, with the exception of GF3. The farthest I've come there was Gull Island where I stopped playing because I didn't really care anymore. The first 2 islands are so boring, Dhonals was fine in the first half but degenerated into a slugfest from the army camp onward. Apart from that I don't see any compelling reason why I should join the rebels, not that there is much to be seen from them on the first islands apart from rogues and I don't really consider Lankan a rebel. So, does the game get better/more interesting on Gull Island and the Isle of Spears ? Will there be some better reason presented why I should join the rebels than just power ?
