  1. Yeah, I tried it again. Somehow I let myself be fooled by some kind of optical misinterpretation. But now I've found other things. For instance there is a cache behind a little lake SW of Koths lair.
  2. Your remarks concerning the marginalisation of people of other races are well said. Also what you say about Houghton and his role in regard to King Micahs clean hands. But Kyass also has some dirty secrets, I think. At least he doesn't like people to get involved too much. At the moment, I'd love to settle in Aydins place. Nice Tower, nice defences, a "lagoon" and an enchanted pool close by, Bargha's pylon in hiking distance. Kyass freehold as well. Neighborhood of sages… Unfortunately it's already inhabited. I wouldn't throw out Aydin and his company.
  3. What a surprise, I just found out the consequences of raising party-levels above 30. Anybody who raised the levels to 35 or higher? It seems that a party of lvl 30 is already quite invincible. True? It's not about boasting. I'm sure there are many around who've raised there levels higher, or who play on harder levels, with handycaps, or as singletons. I'm just interested, if there are any interesting effects concerning leveling and raising skills above 30, which are worth it. At this stage it seems more important and more interesting to collect remaining spells and skills with the help of trainers and books. It'll be interesting for another round of AEFP. Concerning the chosen difficulty in the game, as well as the way one chooses traits.
  4. You could also start breeding cave cows, grow healing herbs and fungi, employ some Avernites to keep the place in order while you are adventuring and retaliate on the occasional nephilim band, slith raiders and bands of rogues, who'd occasionally try to raid your place to get at your nice trophies or steal your cows…
  5. By the way… Has anyone succeeded in feeding enough meat to the old drake (who isn't a dragon)? I never have enough. Also he is not eating my meat, poor sod. Seems to be very short-sighted or something. My backpack is still full of meat afterwards. Would have been a nice little gimmick to let all meat really be eaten after the encounter. Where is the fun in it after all?
  6. Ah, I had been wondering why you were getting this blessing in this place. Not so many dangerous spellcasters around… – except for Aydin it seems… Thanks. Sometimes I wonder why the obvious only becomes obviuos afterwards.
  7. Is Aydin where I think he must be? From what Erika was saying he should be Click to reveal.. in the Northern Isles in a protected tower north of the Giant Castle. That must be the tower where you always die in the shining barrier? If that's the place I have missed a clue again. I havn't seen any alternative entrances. Can't get over the rocks either…
  8. You can't kill Sulfras? What a pity! …or is she a revenant? Aren't there dragon-liches later on? If not, that would really be a treat for a boss-fight!
  9. There are other places of repeatable blessings in other areas as well, which I've used several times without failure. They seem inexhaustable.
  10. Ah, Solberg. Thanks Kreador. Somehow I had forgotten about him. I had tried Patrick instead, and he doesn't say a whole lot about demonslayer. Nice to return to S. and to collect the treat of very cheap and wonderful teaching and information. @Jerakeen: True. One doesn't need demonslayer. At least not for Click to reveal.. banishing Adze Hakaai, but I like to fulfill quests, and somehow, although the demonslayerquest disappears as soon as you've got all three parts, it feels akward to have a broken sword in your backpack. You'd also like to have it repaired and use its legendary abilities. Well now I can – and I like it. (Not withstanding the fact, that AEFTP really pushes the chances to win a bit too strongly.)
  11. Yes, I've thought about just killing her. I think my party is also ready to win against her, but I desided for a more cautious approach. Furthermore I like to fulfill quests. Usually I save before giving important items away, talking to important people or doing boss-fights. So I can still switch to a different outcome if I don't like the effects. (Although sometimes I don't like any outcome ) Sulfras is doomed anyway.
  12. I wonder if Demonslayer has also got to be mended by some famous smith, when I've got all three parts? Click to reveal.. I didn't depend on Demonslayer, when banishing Adze Hakaai – despite his remark about a certain item I didn't have on me . And why do I find the slith cavern marked as quest-destination for "Works of Magery"? I can't find anything there.
  13. Gee, I had already talked to E., but I hadn't gotten the hint, because I hadn't visited Sulfras then. Thanks!
  14. Somehow I found out, that Click to reveal.. Meena has got the silver circlet – might accidentally have been in the forum, I'm not sure –, but somehow I don't seem to be able to pick a fight with her. Despite her tough behaviour. Unfortunately it also seems impossible to just steal it. The doors in her back are depicted as "too complicated to be picked". I wonder where I missed a code-word or key or person to talk to…
  15. Actually the first adversary I enjoyed defeating was the spectral commander in the Spiral Pit. I had to come back 4 times for him. Winning over Pyrog gave me a lot of satisfaction. Drath as well. They were both my first to kill of their kind. First great dragon, first lich boss. And both on the first go! Yeah! Gottcha! I'll also enjoy taking out Thantria, if that's possible. I'll never serve the Empire! I still have some way to go, I think. Guessing from my party-level I'd say I'm in the last third of the game; there are still a few big fights to look forward to: Adze-Hakaai, Grah-Hoth maybe? I've taken a first excursion into Skarr… (well the prison), missed a key, fun place… But first I'll have to tidy up a few minor quests, maybe to take sides, too… …aaaand kill a few more eyebeasts! Behold you suckers!
  16. There is a house on a ledge in the wastes west of Fort Remote that doesn't seem to be possible to reach. There is a patch of fungi there signaling a "sealed passage", but then you just enter a "crevice" which can't be passed. I wonder if the house could be reached – and provide a special encounter – with improved cave lore. My party's got about 12…
  17. No, the other one, who bares her black fangs at you is Sulfras. She wouldn't be as far away from where you looked, but the one you need for the black drake fangs is the one in the Northern Isles, as already mentioned by darint.
  18. Still it would be better if the box showed the remark: "You find nothing more." or similar, as very often is the case in other places…
  19. Sorry, I havn't played A3 yet, so I didn't know that speciality. I had entered Avernum starting at A4. The need for resting time being totally ignored has puzzled me once and again in the A4-6, when being in Inns, where you could book/buy beds or rooms without any effect, except for a waste of money… Why hasn't it been continued? Is it just a special feature of A3?
  20. Just out of curiousity. Has anyone gone through the dread curse? Click to reveal.. You can catch it in the aranea cave NW of Ft. Dranlon. The bounty are three crystals. Would you say the bounty was worth the hardship?
  21. I think there might be a mix-up with some NPC-given hints. Click to reveal.. One NPC at Dharmon gives the hint that there is this Monastery of healing monks north of Dharmon, where you will find a graymold patch. But behold! When you get there, you will find a patch of healing herbs. On the map its marked as a fungus patch though. Click to reveal.. The graymold patch is close to Kyass Freehold. That one is marked as a herb patch on the map. Must be a mistake…
  22. Actually I find the solution of switching scales quite appealing. At first I found the graphic solution unneccessarily cute. It reminds me a lot of games of the strategy genre like settlers and the like. Also I had this narrow feeling of "no outdoors", cause I still remember A4-6 quite well. So the distances really felt weird at first. Meanwhile I'd actually applaud the elegance of the solution. In the A4-6 you could really start getting bored by the distances you had to pass, just because you had forgotten to buy potions or overlooked some secret switch, or whatever. I'd really hate this in this game, where you have to return to so many boss-fights later. Maybe the outdoors is not big if you just look at it, but Jeff provided for a lot of special encounters, which are a really nice solution to extend the graphically shrunken outdoors into a really huge place, where you can also always collect some more XP. Also every nook and cranny is interesting, because – who knows, there might be a new special encounter. And aren't they cute, the little groups of slimies, spidies, wormsies, slithies, ogrelings, etc. running after your party sometimes for quite a while? Moreover the comments during those encounters increase the richness of the story. I still love many of Jeffs funny ideas and comments. So, yes, at first the "shrunken" outdoors felt a bit awkward, but meanwhile I really love it. I hope Jeff will apply this new engine and style to A2 and A3 as well.
  23. Not having found the Seeking Rapier in strategy central's weapons list I ask for your experience/opinion on the use of it. What's better for a tank: The singing rapier or the seeking rapier? Singing Rapier 13-52 +2 Quick Action, +1 Blademaster Seeking Rapier 40-160 +5% critical hit chance +5% chance to parry There is a great difference in HP, but on the other hand QA and Blademaster are not to be sneazed at. Do the abilities equal out, or is the Seeking rapier really the mightier weapon?
