  1. You'll like them! Maybe especially Geneforge 5. I find Avadon reminding me a lot of it regarding the "political system".
  2. Well, then maybe they have a drake steak after training…
  3. …and the occasional donut with a cup of hot chocolate. I'm almost certain. The lilac cows look very tasty, and a lot like some cows on a very popular German chocolate bar.

Tartam is still there, preparing to leave, as I Click to reveal.. have already killed Neray. Maybe he really was in the kitchen the first time I looked. That would just be like in real life. It's quite possible that I missed Abi in the gardens as well. I remember looking for him in the "cafeteria", where you can meet Shima, but maybe I gave up or got distracted, before I looked in the gardens. There are so many options to play, I sometimes get a bit lost, actually. Thanks for all the other hints. I'll just try to get some more XP before getting into trouble with Zephyrine then. At the moment I'd still have to gather some summon aid wands first.
  5. 1. confusing quest: concerns "Deal with Tartam" That Abi-guy in Avadon wants him dealt with. I've found a deal with Tartam. Click to reveal.. Tartam left for new quests as an Avadon spy and also with the remark, he would have to deal with Abi (or something like this – it's been a while ago.) Since then Tartam can't be found anymore, nor can I find Abi in Avadon, but the quest remains in my journal. What's missing? 2. With regard to the confusing not-yet-outcome of the Tartam-quest, I wonder if I will get a similar problem with the Orian-quests. I did the first quest "Observe…" and now I was given the second one: "Hunt…". Can I wait till I will have managed to get new areas on the world map opened, before I will have to bother again? Avadon really seems huge to me at the moment. 3. With regard to the two quests above and another quest, which I have definitely found too late for collecting XP, I wonder if I'm just too stupid for dealing with Zephira or if my estimation, that it'll be a quest for much later in the game, is right. On my first two approaches she just made minced meat out of my party whenever I asked her the question on Click to reveal.. Zethrons behalf . I didn't have the wee-est bitty of a chance.

Just recently I belatedly triggered a request from a runner in Khemeria, which was quite important, though much too late regarding my level. I burned through the opponents much too easily. So I didn't gain much on the XP-side in that quest, but it led to some further discoveries and encounters, which were connected to a part of the main quest. The Situation improved profoundly.
  7. I'd do the side quests. They are quite interesting and provide opportunities to increase XP and therefore skills, as well as a more intense acquaintance with the world you're exploring. You also get more interesting items.
  8. Hey, Soul of Wit, how did you find that out? This is not meant as a challenge. It's a serious question. I'm really interested...
  9. Yeah, it really works, – even though the icon is grayed out…

Chars out of range just don't get it. @Soul of Wit: Thanks for checking. Do you mean it's grayed out for you too, but the curing does work despite of that? (I'd really like to have that mental cure-spell.)
  11. Well, I also did install the scarab in the scarab slot. But yes, there is one grayed-out icon in the scarab section of the ability panel. And that describes at least the ability I've been missing, although not in the right amount. The scarab I'm talking about is the Opaline Scarab Click to reveal.. Ability Group Mental Cure, 2 mental effects In the grayed out Scarab-abilities-icon (u) I find only Click to reveal.. cure of ONE mental effect but it's close. I'd accept it as the icon for the opaline scarab, if I could only use it... Still: IF my character can equip the Opaline Scarab, and it doesn't show any red warning about missing abilities or class restrictions, why can't my char use it? I did some testing, because I started to think, that the malfunction might have to do with the specialisations tree, but I wasn't successful in proving that. I switched the scrab to all other chars, but it doesn't change much. They can't use it either. It doesn't seem that there exists a classrestriction.
  12. (Yes, I did search the forum first…) Hi, I just realized, that I missed some quests in Khemeria. So I returned to Dhorl Stead and accidentally stumbled on the aid Shavon-Quest in a dialogue with Runner Faiga. I went North as told, but I can't find Shavon. Not in the Dhorla Woods, not in Jarl's Wood, not in the Beast's Wood. I think, I've combed through all the tunnels and woods and whatnot, but no Shavon. I've long ago slain the shadow-beast. Can I still find Shavon now? I would be greatful for a hint, where to find him... THX! Tchee…

I talk about THE ONE and only ability panel, which you get, when you type 'a' (for abilities ) during combat. Or which you use to reset your quick spell bars. Why shouldn't there be a bug, which you havn't encountered? Anyway, any advice how to get the scarab to function?
  14. Yeah, teleporting has to be understood... My first attempts to use teleport were pretty daft. I always teleported my warrior close to the enemies, just to find out that this way he'd get a beating first, before beating up the enemies himself. At the early stage of the game there was not much harm done, but still... – stupid. Now I rather use teleportation to get some distance between my less sturdy party-members and strongly damaging foes. Also it helped me a bit in the fight against the spectre of the sorceress in the abandoned house in the Beraza Woods to keep my party together. Teleporting into the back of enemies seems to help too. Nevertheless – I do like the enhanced teleporting ability of the shadowwalker best. His teleportation ability can also stun and ensnare foes and can therefore also be used as a battlestrategy to leap into a fight. Ah, by the way... Which goddamn secret switches? I havn't found any so far. In which areas do I have to recon with them? How far do I have to be in the game? As you can read, I've reached the Beraza woods.
  15. Another one: Not sure, if it's a bug. It comes with one of the scarabs. The scarab offers the ability "group mental cure", but the ability doesn't show up in the ability pane. I've checked all the health ability icons as well. There is one that offers cure of 1 curse effect, but none that cures mental effects. Bug or misinterpretation?
  16. Hi, can't equip the steel spear although it isn't marked as barred to any of my chars. It just doesn't equip. Neither on the melee slot – although that should be the right slot – nor in the missile slot, which I just treid to be sure. Pitty that Jeff hasn't devised an "equip"-function… Anybody knowanythong about this? It's the simple steel spear…

So I am only a few zones in but I hope that there is at least one ending where I have stabbed Evil to death and am totally awesome. I agree a 100 percent. I haven't had time to continue much into the game since my post, but I already wonder if it will be possible to play a morally sound character here. Seems like I will have to get into trouble quite soon, if that's possible. But where will that put me? Will it limit my game options soon? This aspect really reminds me a lot of G5. Avadon already seems to be even more "political" than the Geneforges, looking at all the different factions and their different mentalities, represented by the NPCs. I am not at all concerned about the quick healing, as the new feature of vitality seems to be quite interesting and not at least less tricky than loosing your health. I suppose losing one's vitality will result in being a bit hampered and therefore being in great danger of loosing one's health very soon after having lost the first. I get a bit confused by the potions at the moment, though. I hope I'll understand them as soon as it's more vital. I'm delighted to hear that one will have the possibility of solving some of the quests by cunning. That's something I really like about all the SW games. Although there is a good amount of hacking and slashing involved – without the fancy splatter (not considering the occasional blood stains on the floor to be able to qualify as such) – you really get to do some thinking, too. Seems like in Avadon one might be able to do some scheming too… Most certainly one will gain quests from the companions, too? Really seems like it, if you look at their stories. Now I've got to continue playing… Wheeeeeee!!!!!
  18. Hi all! Yeyyy! Finally! It's out! I've started playing right away. : ) What strikes me at first play is, how much the society of Lynaeus in its austerity reminds me of the Geneforges. Unfortunately key "J" doesn't open the Journal. That would be quite convenient. Especially, as other shortcuts have been installed. And I can't help it. Some of the skill-trees remind me a weeeeee bit of DAO… The graphics are quite nice. Related to Geneforge 5, but even much more appealing, without loosing the charm of the "board-game-style". As some people have already reported, the text is a bit small… Anyway. Right from the beginning a lot of options to change allegiances and challenge circumstances seem to advertise themselves. I am looking forward to getting deeper into the game.
  19. Yes, I did! Just recently by the way. The updated version of A4 though. But actually I was referring to the "real" clawbugs, not the chitrach-ones. I meant the crustacean kind of clawbugs. I think I encountered them in A5. Crunchy!

I hated that. Although I have to admit, I found it a quite accurate idea of fighting. Very much opposed to dual wielding and similar features. If you look at real martial arts, you'll agree to being absolutely against a comparison of real fighting and RPG-fighting — or cinema-fighting, just to mention it. It's not realistic at all, therefore one shouldn't compare it. Real fighting is chaotic, dirty, bloody, snotty and damn short most of the time. There are some videos on u-tube showing an Afghan Karate-Master fighting in some competitions where hitting the all parts of the body is allowed. Look at his style. It's incredible. It's quite artistic, but its also very straight to the weak points within seconds. And he isn't afraid to hurt anybody… Talking about martial arts, I'd prefer a battle-system, where the special skills-tree would be improved in the sence of "perfected master" (or whatever), where the fighter really knows all the vital points. I know, that's blademaster, but I can't really find a true expression of the skills of the blademaster in the style of the game yet. As for the topic of graphics, I'm really fed up with the games, which try to improve the reality of the graphics and get more and more unrealistic about the fighting within this setting. I can't see all these Diablo-style kind of singleton-heros (like in Two Worlds 2 for instance) anymore, who are pierced by ten arrows or more and never fail nor falter. I don't really like the splatter either. That's something to think about, too, on this forum, I'd say. You're still in a game-style setting in Spiderweb games, with a board-game-style of setting. Therefore the fantastic allusions are quite ok. I liked DaO, I have to admit, – and still like it, although it doesn't keep it's promise of different story-lines depending on choice of class and race very well. Anyway. I like any Spiderweb game better, because it's a game, and it doesn't try to be anything else. Therefore the occurrences can be fantastic. And you can concentrate on devicing several tactics in different situations. You can smile about the "moral conundrums" and funny remarks, and just have fun and enjoy trying to win against the GAME.

And then axes should be introduced (at least in Avadon 2) because with axes you can disarm shieldbearers. That one is to be read in B. Cornwell's "The Lord of the North" and appeals to me as well. I think in A6 the dual wielding was a nice variation, but not really decisive for anything.
