  1. During this playthrough, I rushed to get clawbugs, plated clawbugs, and then rotdhizons. I also dumped tons of points into Battle Shaping. Anyway, I'm getting to the point where I'm rounding up my artifacts and finishing up the last quests before I have to start making a commitment somewhere. The two rotdhizons that I managed to get shortly after I reached the Storm Plains are both at the level cap (61) and I'm realizing that if I make new ones with later items, they'll only be four levels behind and they'll be cheaper. (Turns out that rotdhizons and - no doubt - some others don't actually need many points spent to reach the cap in each stat at 61.) However, I like to try to max these things out, which raises a question: Do top-level creations draw away from your XP? This, of course, comes with a similar question: What, exactly, is the group XP penalty? I know it's not a big one, but it's there, and I'd like the exact values. 'Cause I like exact values. And while I'm here, does anyone know the number of points needed to be spent on various creations so that they'll have 30 in the stat at 61? I may try and test these myself. Which could make this topic quite boring (just me talking to myself) but potentially useful if anyone else is researching these same questions.
  2. Monarch was a minor character in GF4. He made tons of rogue creations and was briefly so powerful that the rebels and Shapers had to stop fighting just to hold the line against his forces. Then you come in and kill him /run him off. Also, as to the gender thing: Those robes are pretty baggy. We really can't be sure whats underneath. o.O
  3. I think the best candidate is the GF3 PC, and possibly Monarch: After the events of GF3, Greta and Alwan go their separate ways to begin their careers as a Shaper and rebel, respectively. The PC (who is most likely going to be far more powerful than either one of them) sees the two who were once friends becoming bitter enemies, and with a little canister-madness thrown in, decides that if they can't talk out their differences, well someone will just have to MAKE them work together. Enter Monarch. One moment of alliance between the once-friends but now-enemies to fight a third party to a standstill (until the GF4 PC walks in, of course). After losing, Monarch is forced to flee, and goes to Drypeak to learn about the beginnings of the rebellion: He* doesn't care about who's right and who's wrong, he just wants his friends back. At Drypeak, he loses (the rest of) his mind and is captured by Rawal's agents. When he's brought to Minallah, Rawal doesn't recognize either the GF3 PC or Monarch: Why would he know either one of them? But he recognizes power. Thus the control tool, and the beginnings of GF5. This does explain some important things: Greta and Alwan both destroy all mention of the GF3 PC (Aside from out-of-game reasons). This would imply that he did something they're ashamed of, and becoming Monarch would qualify. Also, it explains why they treat you with faint recognition in GF5: Both are very smart people, and when they see you, they immediately recognize you and realize that you do not recognize them. They quickly figure that they can use you as a new person, and take advantage of this. The timing is better on Monarch than the GF5 PC, and I don't think that Alwan would forgive the GF5 PC for anything, even if he lost his mind and was rebuilt from the ground up. Someone mentioned that Rawal wouldn't try to control Monarch, because Monarch is too powerful to be controlled: Remember, Rawal has no idea who the PC is, just a crazed, powerful Shaper. Monarch is definitely the "optional part" here, and the GF3 PC is the central idea. GF3 PC does something shameful, gets removed from records (but not memories), loses his mind, and then is manipulated by those who were once his friends. *For personal convenience, I'm using the male pronoun here. I'm fully aware that there are other possibilities.
  4. When I spoke to Litalia in GF5 (I used the female pronoun because I play as a shocktrooper) she very much seems to know the PC before, although she denies it. If we assume that Shaila is the GF5 pc then she would have had to meet Litalia after Shaila met the GF4 pc, because she met the GF4 pc right after she was first Shaped by the Geneforge and became an important person, rather than a low-level mage. The way Litalia acts to you in GF5 highly implies Litalia already knew you before GF5. The way she acts says to me that when she knew you before you were a typical rebel lifecrafter; canister-mad. Unable to control yourself. Obsessed with power. So, in this scenario, Shaila would have used the canisters to become more powerful. Maybe she regained her sanity, maybe not. One of the two.
  5. I looked at the code for mine triggers, and (I don't know how much code-conversation is allowed on these forums) but in some places it called a "distance_to_pc" function that I assume is pure distance and neglects stealth. However, in an if-function that controlled whether or not it blew up, there was a "can_detect_pc" function called (which I assume does include stealth) So... yeah.

'Course, I name all my female characters Shala, and shocktrooper is my personal favorite class. But that's coincidental. (I name all my male characters Waladil.) And Shaila is quite a possibility... Even though she's minor, most of her history is vague enough to rate interaction with any other given character. If she did meet Litalia, I'd suspect that it was after the PC meets her in GF4. She was Shaped by the Geneforge, but I get the impression Litalia saw her as more heavily Shaped than that. Meaning canisters. I will give you all a grain of salt for my comments: It has been a long time since I played GF4, and I've never beaten 5 as a Trakovite so I don't know all of Litalia's dialogue. But I'm still allowed opinions, right?
  7. If you are willing to learn or have any skill in coding already, there is a folder (Geneforge #/Geneforge # Files/Scripts) that has all the scripts in the game. (Anyone know what language that is? It's either C, a C variant or Java, I think) What I did, once for fun to cheat, was found a canister I hadn't opened, found the file from that level, and changed what it modified to make it not increment my "canisters used" count, increase the skill by 10 rather than 1, and copied the skills increased several times and changed what skill they increased. Also, I found a way to stop the canister from counting that it was used (and therefore destroyed, so I could re-use it) I opened the game, used the canister, saved, changed the skills, loaded, used it again... until I had max skills in every stat, every spell, every creation, etc. I WAS GOD. So... if you did that with a canister in the demo, yes, you could get drakons/war tralls/eyebeasts in the demo. I believe that the first canister available is in Isenwood's Spire... P.S. If you're no good with code, then tell me. If I get permission from somebody, I could show you how. Otherwise, proprietary data and all that.
  8. So I heard a few people on this forum saying that stealth does not affect mine detection radii. But it seems to me that it does, based on this image: Click to reveal.. (image) I managed to pull that off with 5 stealth bonus (3x infiltrator items, Mercuric Boots) and when I tried with just 2 stealth I failed consistently. (However, I should note that it took me about 2-3 tries to get in with 5 stealth [that's 2-3 times per attempt at entry; I entered at least twice, each time with one or two failures first], but I tried more than 6 times with 2 to no success.) So it seems clear to me that stealth does affect mines. Has there been any other confirmation (I'd accept testimony from Jeff, of course!)?
  9. Ya. It isn't so much for fun than for the heck of it. I made an Agent, and at first I re-scripted the game to get to lvl 61 ASAP (that is the cap,) then I turned canisters into super-stat buffs(10 to five at a time, no negative effects) and now I'm burning my way across Terrestria, with a character almost as tough as God. (God has better items than I do.)
  10. It annoys me how people change things, but it's just neccesary. For any of you who played Deus Ex and Invisible War (NO DEBATES ON RELATIVE QUALITY!!!) the "true" ending was a combination of multiple (I think you took out A51 + joined w/ Helios)
  11. I eventually did it. I don't like the Trakovites, so I never tried until near the endgame. Then I just pwned her ass like I did for everyone else around there.
  12. I have an idea for a potential GF6. Just throwin' it out there, if anyone wants to think about it. In Astoria's Keep, there is someone from a different continent, and she says there is no Shaping where she is from. So, here's my idea. Hundreds of years from "now," the rebels have won and the drakons rule Terrestria worse than the Shapers ever have. They now decided that just Terrestria isn't enough, and they want to attack the other continents. The other continents, even though they have no Shaping, have developed semi-modern technology (think late 1800's early 1900's) and are defending themselves. I just think that tech V. shaping would be a cool game.
  13. Wow. at least 2 games w/ that name (I KNOW there was a zone in GF4 with that name, it was the second "true combat" zone I would clear) and a person. What did that guy do to become so famous?
  14. I haven't been reading the other posts but my opinions: Most: Alwan. Least: Taygen. I say Alwan is the most ethical because he has a certain set of opinions, and sticks by them. There is no lying around his camps. Everybody else lies to some extent. I say Taygen is the least ethical because A. He is trying to mass exterminate at least a dozen individual species, B. He is betraying the Shapers (by killing their creations) and C. constantly lies about it.
  15. My theory: There is one key for each faction, right? So where's Rawals? I just think that he has his key somewhere and won't ever give it to you. The door is just there. Oh, and what bothers me is that the control mechanism mentions eight keyholes, not six. I'm pretty sure that it's a typo, though.
  16. Its actually comically easy. Buff out your mechanics (I keep an extra set of armor to do that, infiltrator + tinker stuff) defuse one of the mines at the throne and get everyone in before the ghosts start to hunt you. Then, its basically a waiting game. Travald will soon die, and you can take his stuff.
  17. Ok... For some reason I dunno who Master Hoge is. Oh well. I like the Monarch idea: One option in GF4 is that you convince Monarch to leave and head into Shaper lands (here.) Perhaps he just went further insane. My personal theory is that you are a little like Shaila, the first mad enemy you see in GF4. For those of you who don't remember, she was driven insane by the Geneforge and started killing. I think that when you were Shaped, you went insane, but more subtly insane than Shaila. You were Shaped, given basic training, and sent into Shaper lands by the rebels to create rogues and wreak havoc. Once there, you fully lost your mind and forgot everything. By the way, to kind of kill this thread, even the Farseer (I forget her name) cannot figure out who you are and tells you that you are who your actions cause you to be. Therefore, this discussion is pointless.
  18. T Dikiyoba; I wonder why some changed. I liked the Rothdiziron. T. Taliesin; I knew that some were unstable. Like the Thahad. P.S. I hope I spelled names and creations right. BTW, Taliesin, your name is in Spell-Check!
  19. it's just a handy thing to know. Maybe your like trying to compare stuff... or somethin... I dunno, do with it what you will.
  20. No real need to reply to this, but i just found out something really cool. You can have 2 apps of GF4 running simultaneously, and there is no interference! seriously, I had 2 running accidentally just now, and started a new game in one, then accidentally saved over my old game. Then, I alt-tabbed, and look! my old game! so I saved that one back and put my new game in slot 2, and every time, both games knew about the new save. SO awesome!
  21. Hey guys! I recently re-got GF4, and now that I have access to the lvl 2 Rotghroth, it says "corrupted rotghroth, and I could have sworn it was a Rotdziron or whatever, the poison one. Any ideas? maybe a change?
