  1. Yep! Kind of my idea Edgwyn! These time-limited job board quests are a new feature. They ought to soak up plenty of time! And as you say, all I have to do is save a game at the right point. Thanks!
  2. Aha! Thanks, Randomizer! Then I will wander and sleep and do the little quests. I'd rather not mess with the game to reset the clock. Um, can I do that for too long? The game won't cut me off at some point and tell me I've lost?
  3. So I'm advancing in the game and still have quite a bit to do. I'm playing slowly enough that I might still be playing on Day 160, but I doubt it. So, a question: In all of the previous Avernum games you could finish the game, do all the quests, and have the option to keep playing. Is that the case this time? I'm leaving lots of low-level job board quests and I could go back and wander around and do those, waiting for Day 160. Or I could just put off the endgame by doing those quests, or just by wandering around and sleeping a lot, until I hit day 160. I'd just like to experience ALL of the game, and not miss the Tower of Magi fight. Thanks!
  4. Yeah, I've been attacked by that patrol several times. I just reload my quicksave and try to avoid them. Pretty sure there's a cheat code that will reset the town's mood.
  5. You may not have stepped close enough to the barrier. The first time I tried to get through after actually joining, I couldn't get it to open. Turned out I needed to be one step closer, right up against the barrier. Hope you have an earlier saved game!
  6. After saving first, I just tried joining for real, getting the spells (already had all of 'em except Mass Healing/Curing and Divine Fire). Bought some stuff from the hidden guy upstairs, and then unjoined. Looked like my mage spells were not restored when I unjoined. Therefore, not nearly worth it, IMHO. I reloaded and am going my merry way as a mage. I'll grab the fake rings when I find 'em just to get level 3 Divine Fire. I gather I don't get a Dread Curse if I just read that one book, shop from the merchant and don't rob their treasury (which I will do towards the end of the game, just because), if I'm reading this correctly? Thanks!
  7. Ah HAH! You guys figured it out! I had replaced the discipline blade with the singing rapier. Fortunately, I still had the DB and I put it back on him. He has his skills back! That's worth way more than a point to blademaster, imho. Thanks guys!! So now I have learned! Twenty years of playing Spiderweb games, you'd think I'd have most of this stuff figured out by now . . .
  8. Weirdness. Some of Aldous's battle disciplines have disappeared. He was all the way up to the one after adrenaline rush, and now several of them are dimmed. The only thing I can think of is that I noticed they were gone sometime after I gave him the "dual wielding" stat. But I tried giving him another sword so that he could dual wield and the disciplines didn't return. I am mystified. What happened? Is there a way to retrain, because if so, I'll do it. Thanks!
  9. BTW, I chose "q" for quicksave and "r" for reload. Actually that turns out to be easier than the F buttons. Hah!
  10. Aha. Thanks Edgwyn! Sneaky, sneaky. And there I was looking all over the downstairs central area. Sneaky!
  11. Am looking all over the Slime Pit for the level 3 spell. Where is it? Where Where Where???
  12. Aha! I tried your solution Ottakoi. That didn't work, but it DID bring up the game menu, which lists "keyboard shortcuts." I simply chose my own keys for the quicksave and reload! Hooray! Didn't change my nifty laptop settings, but now I can quicksave! Thanks!
  13. Oh dear. I have a Dell PC laptop running Win 10, and my F1, F2 and F3 keys are coded to volume control. I really like that feature and use it all the time, but it appears to mean that I can't use F3 to quicksave in A3. I don't want to remap the keys. If I have to do that I'll live without the quicksave. Any suggestions? Just started but am having a ball! Thanks!
  14. Never mind! Finally found him!
  15. Where is Eye Gabel? I've looked all over the fort! Thanks!
  16. Ha ha! Done! Not really all that tough, although I did have to use up two resurrection scrolls for Khalida. However, just stand back near the gate out of range of the turrets, yet just barely within range of the first two turrets, and it's quite doable. Nice loot too! Thanks again!
  17. Ah yes. I see what you mean. So I got down there rather easily, have cleaned out all the spiders and now have the task of facing her. Tough fight. I'll try it tomorrow. Thanks again!
  18. Great! Thanks again! Couldn't play today because of LIfe, but ought to be able to get to it tomorrow. But presumably we're going to have to kill the Librarian shade at some point. Why not do it now?
  19. Yeah, I was able to jump toward the staircase (sacrificing Nathalie who can't jump) and almost got there on my last try. Maybe I can jump to the Librarian and get her if I try. It was the spamming shades that got me. I could get Nathalie back with a resurrection scroll. I'm thinking that speed scrolls might help me get there, so I'll try that today. It's all down to getting by the shades and not stopping, isn't it? I think I can I think I can I think I can! Thanks Randomizer! I'll let ya know what happens!
  20. OK, I'm in the Svar spiral library but I can't get past the constantly spamming shades. I can beat them but they will not let me rest and recharge so eventually I get overwhelmed. I'm a tinkermage, so I can do charged weapons and turrets. I've got Nathalie and my blademaster with me. I see the Librarian's shade, but there's a down staircase just across from her. I'm trying to get to that but the never-ending shades keep stopping me. Is getting down that staircase what I need to do, or do I have to kill the LIbrarian's shade? If so, how? Any suggestions? Thanks!
  21. If we decide not to do her quest, does she desert us in the end? I remember that in A2 if you did the character quests and made them happy they would fight with you in the final battle. If you didn't, they wouldn't show up to help you. Is that the same result here? I'll do it to get her into the final battle (no doubt there is one) but if it doesn't make any difference, then I kinda really don't want to do that quest. Thanks!
  22. Oh ha. OK. I found it. Wasn't where I expected it to be. So I'm out! I survived! Onward! Thanks again Randomizer!!
  23. Yeah, I went up and killed some titans and got the Potion of Disguises, or whatever it's called, but there didn't seem to be a way out! OK, thanks! I'll go up again! (Glad I looked at this before I got back to the game!)
  24. Actually that went fairly well this time! I took out one of the drakes right away, but had trouble getting to the other one. Everybody but the big Titan and that drake were already dead. I met with Dheless. OK. However, NOW I apparently have to fight slime monsters--LOTS of them--to get out of this place, and I'm out of wands. This dungeon is ridiculous.
  25. Well hey! I made it as far as the battle with the Titan and his drakes. Maybe with judicious use of potions I can get through that. The three wretch battles indeed were doable, once I followed your advice. I got pretty far with the Titan, and my turrets actually helped a lot because the enemies were mostly concentrated in one spot. But I lasted quite a long time. I think I'll try to take out the drakes next time around to stop all the hasting they do. However, if I can last as long as I did, I ought to be able to get through it. Thanks so much Randomizer! Your advice really really helped!
