  1. Thanks Randomizer! That is very helpful advice! I will try again when I can get back to the game later today,
  2. Thanks for the encouragement but I've been trying to position my party decently. I watched Cheesrook's video about this, and I can't even get through the first of three of the wretch fights, so far. I will try again with potions and whatever buffs I have. Do you have any advice about the positioning? I would hate to give up and declare defeat. I'm not ready to do that just yet.
  3. Uh oh. Got through the Titans with ease, thanks to our friendly dragon. But the wretches are slaughtering me. I'm going to have to be very clever. I still have some wands, and I'm just going to have to use more potions, I think. I'm kind of surprised at Jeff. Giving us unwinnable fights is not his style. At least we ought to have an escape available if we have come with a party that can't win. If I can't get through this it's game over, and I"ve never been unable to finish a Spiderweb game after playing them since the original Avernum and Nethergate. True, I'm not talented at it, but I've been playing Jeff's games almost since he started making them. But I dunno. He may have defeated me this time. I'll try again tomorrow.
  4. I finally got 'em! I brought my blademaster and my shadowwalker, and used Elixirs of Battle and a buncha wands. My fire turret did a bit of damage, but I couldn't get it close enough to really help much. I see that titans are next. Oh joy. (I made an alliance with the Titans back in Goldcrag, so maybe that will help? Ha. I doubt it.) Anyhoo, thanks for the advice! I may be back for more!
  5. Thanks Randomizer! I had hoped that I might be able to isolate parts of the crowd and take them out that way, but haven't figured a way to do that. They stick to their group. I always go after the seers first, but these guys too strong. I can't make much of a dent in them before I'm dead. So yeah, sadly, I'll have to go back to the autosave and get a different party. The blademaster can stay but I'll need maybe my shaman or shadowwalker instead of the tinkermage (I'm playing a tinkermage). I kinda figured that was going to be the answer. So I'll do that and I just won't go through that gate this time. There must be another way in. Thanks again!
  6. I'm in the area of the Warborn Arena, have entered the gated area and the gate is closed behind me. I can't open it. Also, the gate that apparently goes to the Arena is closed and I can't open it. I have killed the two titans that guard it. I've won all the battles rather easily so far, but now I'm faced with the whole camp full of ogres, including the Seer Dreath and two other seers, and I'm getting slaughtered. I managed to isolate the Overseer ogre and killed him. OK. But now I'm faced with the whole camp, and I just have no chance against them. I have two tinkermages and a Blademaster. I can't make a dent in the crowd--They kill me before I can get more than a couple of turrets up. I'm using my wands on the crowd, but their seers keep healing them and slaughter my party before I can make a dent in them. Other than the isolated Overseer, I have yet to kill an ogre. Is there a way out of that area? I cannot win the battle, and my game is apparently going to end here unless I can find a sneaky way out, which so far I have not found. Is there a way around these guys or am I going to have to go back to an earlier save? Thanks!
  7. As I said, I did NOT have three statues in the special items list. The game only gave me credit for two. BUT! BWAHAHAHAHA! The joke's on me! I went back to the fort and searched around all the exclamation points on the auto map. I JUST MISSED IT! It wasn't at the altar. It was hidden in a chest. I ALWAYS check chests. How did I miss this one?? (And plus, Jeff usually doesn't make that kind of mistake. If the item had been on an altar you could destroy, and then the item disappeared and became inaccessible--that would screw up lots of players. He's not going to let players inadvertently destroy a quest item.) Anyhoo, I got the elusive statue and have completed the quest. Rather nice reward for that too! So this whole thread I started turns out to be just my silly mistake. No wonder no one else had the bug! HAHAHA!!
  8. No, sadly, the game is only giving me credit for two statues. Inadvertently choosing "leave" instead of "take it" is the only explanation I can come up with, as it seems no one else has had this problem.
  9. Wow. Nobody's answered. In that case, I'll bet I didn't choose "Take It." I bet I chose "Leave" and then destroyed the altar before I got the statue. If nobody else has had this problem, then it probably was my own inadvertent mistake. Drat. Well, I'll no doubt play again and get it next time!
  10. I have encountered a glitch. Early on we get a quest from O'Rourke in Fort Dranlon to fetch three statues from the Giants. I know for sure I got all three because I checked in the Items List, but the game is only giving me credit for two. I grabbed one during a battle, and I suspect that's where the bug bit me. I've destroyed all three altars, so there's no going back to get it, I suspect. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a fix? Thanks!!
  11. Ha ha! Thanks! I figured it out from the main strategy list. I think that's the first time I've seen a move mountains area without cracks. Normally, Jeff gives you a hint with cracks in the walls. Anyhoo, I got the goodies!
  12. I've got another question about the giant fort. Justo the north of where you find the Gremlin women, there is a barrier blocking a passage. Pushing a button opens something behind that barrier, but I cannot find a way to get to the barrier. I've killed the hellhound in the pen, but there is both a fence and a pile of rocks blocking it. Is there any way to get to that barrier and passage? Or is Jeff just teasing us? Thanks!
  13. Aha! Got past it! That was the trick: (SPOILER!) Going north.
  14. Thanks Randomizer (you rock!) I went ahead and looked at your second clue. Will try! As I recall from the previous games, the hidden switches were all you needed. You needed to not step on a trigger hidden in the original path. So this may be a more sophisticated version!
  15. OK, I know I solved this puzzle in both the previous issues of the game, so I don't want a complete explanation. I have found the hidden switches to get into the honeycomb bandit fort, but I still get bounced outside. I'm betting that I'll run across a character somewhere who will tell me the secret, but I'm wondering where to look for that. Any very general clues for it? Thanks!
  16. Spiffy! Thanks Triumph! Once she's bumped up to 11, I'll finish the quest! Glad it's a reasonable explanation and not a glitch!
  17. Hi folks! I'm ready finally to exit the demo area of Crystal Souls, but I have a quest I'm so far unable to solve. I have cleaned out the Blasted Ruins, where the Nephils were creating undead. I have found the Ritual of Sanctification in that little place in the Formello wall, and the game says that I know it. I went back to the tome and it said my knowledge was improved! But I can't get a choice to use it on the altar in the Blasted Ruins, which I assume is the Dark Altar. The only choices I get when I go to the altar are to leave or to smash it. I've smashed it, but the game still says it needs a Ritual of Sanctification performed by a competent Priest. My priest is at level 9. Maybe that isn't high enough? But if not, why did it the game say I know the ritual? Two possibilities: I've got the wrong altar, or I've got a glitch in the game. Anybody know? Thanks!
  18. Whew! So I did it. I really was ready to give up, because as I said, I suck as a player. Took me at least a dozen tries. However, I got her at the end of the second round, finally! Interesting--you don't have to get her down to 0 health. The game just decides you've done enough damage to her and ends the fight. I think there is some luck involved in this too. The terrors sometimes ignore the turrets and just leap into a nasty position. Plus, I had to use three summoned creatures--and that finally corralled the terrors. Two creatures plus the two turrets wasn't enough. And thanks, the placement of the turrets makes a huge difference, especially if they're in range to damage Miranda during her shield breaks. Glad I brought Derrick, though! He finally brought her down with a well-placed icy lance. Also I used a couple of assault crystals, but I finally learned to wait for the right time to activate those. So thanks Randomizer! Your advice got me though it, finally! Whew!
  19. Thanks Randomizer! Yeah, I've been jumping right next to her, and she slaughters me. There is, then, a reason that you only have to get within four spaces of her. After you break the shield, presumably you could move back. I haven't been using summoned creatures enough, also. SOMEtimes her two pets go for my turrets, but I was also able to distract one with a summoned creature last time I tried. I've managed to get back to Avadon from my save just before the fight, so I think I'll take Yoshira and Derrick, and keep Derrick as much out of the way as possible so he can do his healing, as long as the meat shields and turrets work to distract the terrors. You're right: it's doable. I just have to be smarter about it. Thanks so much for the tips! I'll update when I succeed!
  20. Help. I did this on my first playthrough, but now I'm playing on Hard and keep getting killed. I've got turrets and I've got phoenix shards and a buncha other stuff and I know the "secret," but I can only get a few hits in on her before her shield goes back up, and I usually don't make it to even a second round at her. I figure it's gonna take at least five or six rounds or even more to get her, and I just can't stay alive. How do you folks stay alive long enough to get her? I'm playing with Khalida and Yannick. Maybe I ought to go back to Avadon and get Yoshira instead of Yannick. Any fairly detailed advice, such as where to place your characters and turrets? Thanks! (Yes, I suck as a player. I can't believe I've made it this far into the game on Hard. Which is why I need advice!)
  21. How do you get the quest in the first place? I never got a quest for him on my first play through. I did talk to him, but had no option to do anything.
  22. Aha! Yes, I decided to be loyal on my first playthrough. I've started again, this time on Hard, and am discovering a buncha stuff I missed the first time. I just robbed the Rockridge treasury in the basement, for example. Didn't even see that before. Next time I'll challenge Redbeard, then, and use my scrolls against him! Thanks!
  23. I was really surprised that it just ended when it did. I was expecting final battle with all my characters to help. I ended the game with nine circle of fire spells that I was saving for the final battle inside the fort or perhaps in Avadon itself, but the battle never came. I really enjoyed the game until the very end, fighting through all the spawning enemies. I thought that was ridiculous and did not enjoy it because there seemed no chance of winning. It just went on and on and on. I finally had to just teleport over them and then run to the fort, fully expecting one last battle that never came. You shouldn't have to end your game by running from a fight. You should have a definite battle to win, darn it. So other than the endgame outside the fort it was an excellent game. Those endlessly spawning enemies kinda ruined it for me, but I certainly enjoyed myself until that point.
  24. Nah, "a bit miffed" is not what I'd call feeling strongly. I think I've used the editor maybe once in all my Spiderwebbing experience. Nope. I'll do what the game designer intended. I have used wisdom crystals, just not nearly enough. Next playthrough I'll concentrate on those! Meanwhile, I bet I can get through the endgame on 32.
