  1. i know it's just a game, but realistically, why would someone who's completely inept or has brittle bones want to be an adventurer? i can understand sluggish and maybe even cursed at birth or sickness prone, but why would someone who basically sucks at life even bother?

  3. vent, this is the type of book that we mean: http://www.boraski.com/zork/index.html it's not from the "choose your own adventure" series, or even made by the same company or author, but it's the same type of book. it's not the first book in the series, but it's the only book of this type that i could find with minimal effort that you can actually read online. interestingly enough, it's the only book in the series that i've actually read. as said before, you can cheat, but this book has an ending that can catch you if you do.
  4. i'm not a patient enough person to wait until later on in the game to buy skills that i'm probably going to use before i actually get to where they can be bought.
  5. maybe the forum can start a new buzz word by naming it.
  6. choose your own adventure books were awesome.

  8. i think someone tells you to talk to rone about the spire fort.
  9. if i remember correctly, you set off an alarm when you get one of the packages and you get attacked by the city guards. i'm not sure if this is the right package or not. i know you have to give it to somebody.
  10. i don't remember if you can capture a doomguard's soul. if you can, that'd be a good summon. i remember garzahd being capturable.
  11. also, to complement my last post, since the hawthorne dynasty has officially ended, there are probably some factions other than the darkside loyalists who oppose emperor redmark's rule (or dorikas's rule if he became the emperor instead)
  12. the darkside loyalists give me kind of a mafia feel, specifically with the dharmon guard. maybe that can be expounded upon somehow.
  13. these are all going to be modern day. i'd probably live someplace in provincial avernum if i actually had a choice since it's on the surface and all but still has the relative freedom of being under the rule of avernum, rather than the empire. if i had to pick somewhere in the caves, i'd probably pick new formello, since it's close to the surface and seems to have a pretty decent economy. finally, if i had to pick someplace in avernum proper, i'd probably live in blosk. except for the whole thing with the shades, it's been a relatively safe place to live and it's a pretty decent sized city in the great cave. plus, there's nothing wrong with working to help with the clean up of the city.
  14. maybe i'll actually get around to playing avernum 5 one of these days since people keep saying how great it is. anyway, avernum 2 had the best plot out of the first 4 games, so i picked that one. my second favorite was the first game because it had the second best plot. as for saying that you can skip any one game, you could really say that about any of the games. all of them give you a brief update on what's happened before.

They're much tougher if you go into doomguard fights like other fights, though. They require much more attention to which character is dealing damage and how. i thought that's how everybody did it. guess i was wrong.
  16. that's like asking why there's any boa at all when there's boe.
  17. even though i'm pretty sure jeff said that he wouldn't make another blades game ever again, i thought that it might be interesting if one were made with the new engine. thoughts?
  18. you could always just quicksave all the time
  19. avernum 4 (and i'm assuming a5 as well, but i haven't played it yet) has two button mouse support. try right-clicking on somebody.
  20. dorikas as the next emperor would make an interesting storyline, but like i said, i already assassinated emperor hawthorne.
  21. i still need to play a5. maybe i'll get around to that sometime before a6 comes out.
  22. dorikas as emperor would basically end up with another assassination attempt by your party.

You can guess what your painting looks like, but you'll never see for yourself until the blindfold comes off. Are you really going to give that painting to someone else and expect them to hang it up on your wall? just to be a smart aleck, beethoven was a greet composer even though he was deaf...
  24. i'd like some kind of a time limit added into the game. i'm not talking about something really constraining that makes you rush through everything, but less than in 3 when you could've finished the game about 5 times before the tower of magi disaster.
  25. maybe items could take a couple ap, but all of the other points in the original post are bad. especially the one about avernum 4's ap system, because it sucked.
