  1. begintownscript; variables; body; set_name(1,"Lacey") beginstate INIT_STATE; break; beginstate EXIT_STATE; break; beginstate START_STATE; break; This is my town script so far. It's not much, but I want to be on the right track before I write anything else. I don't see anything wrong with my script, but I get an "invalid symbol in line 1" message. Thanks.
  2. Just curious as to where people are at right now. I have just finished all the newcomer scenarios. I know the unofficial deadline is still a while from now, but I'm curious as to where other people are at.
  3. Okay, I need to get under Gildra, but am not sure how to begin to find the path. Thanks. EDIT: Nevermind. Figured it out.
  4. Sorry, I forgot about Kill them Dead. Gluckcluck is a short scenario. Newcomers are scenarios that have never entered a general contest before (meaning smaller contests don't count)
  5. I didn't want this part to be in the contest instructions, but I do want to let judges know that if you are on a PC, I do have the crusaders.bmp file on my computer. If you need one, let me know and I'll email it to you.
  6. I won't set an official deadline for judging, as it seems judges have different schedules for when they can do things, but if it doesn't look like someone is going to submit scores, I can omit them. Since we have a shortage of judges, feel free to submit scores even if you haven't officially signed up, but unless you've talked to me, I can't accept your scores from people who haven't signed up after December 31st, 2011. The download page is here. If you do not have the version you want, let Tyran know ASAP. The following scenarios will be vying for the prize of Best Short Scenario: The Crusaders by Bain-Ihrno The Eternal by Nikki Gluckcluck by Enraged Slith Quarhag Pass by Smoo The Siege of Copperpeak by Ephesos Warp by Ephesos Best Short Scenario will be judged by JMP, Lazarus, and Tyranicus The following scenarios will be vying for the prize of Best Newcomer Scenario: The Cradle by B.J. Earles Incorruptible by Tridash Melliput Mobsters by Celtic Minstrel Oops by Dintiradan Pilgrimage to Thrakos by Sylae Correll The Sorcerer's Apprentice by Niemand Strange Gildra by B.J. Earles The Triple Valley by Iffy Waterweb by Handyman Best Newcomer Scenario will be judged by Bain-Ihrno, Lazarus, and Tyranicus The instructions are to give each scenario you are assigned a score from one to ten, with ten being the best. Highest score wins the category, and advances to Best Scenario Judging. If your scenario is within 80% of the top scenario, your scenario also advances. Send your scores to my Private Message Box. There are still several scenarios that the designer hasn't announced if it is going into the contest. If you have a scenario on this list and missed the deadline, it will be up to the judges whether you can still enter. Note that The Crusaders and Pilgrimage to Thakos are BoE scenarios. That's about it, so get started, and have fun!
  7. I persuaded Lazarus to come and judge, so these are our judges so far: SHORT: Tyranicus, JMP, Lazarus NEWCOMER: Bain, Tyranicus, Lazarus
  8. JMP, you're in. All the scenarios are short, so do you want just the "short" category or newcomers as well? EDIT: Tyran, when can you have the website up? I know I said you could have it up once the contest started, but I want the scenario authors to be able to verify that they've uploaded the version they want.
  9. Remember, the deadline is December 1st, 2011. I'm making a list of what we have in this contest so far. Confirmed Judges: Bain-Ihrno, JMP, Lazarus and Tyranicus Scenarios Vying for Best Small Scenario The Crusaders by Bain-Ihrno The Eternal by Nikki Quarhag Pass by Smoo Siege of Copperpeak by Ephesos Warp by Ephesos Judges for this Category: JMP, Tyranicus, Lazarus Scenarios Vying for Best Newcomer The Cradle by B.J. Earles Gluckcluck by Enraged Slith Incorruptible by Tridash Melliput Mobsters by Celtic Minstrel Pilgrimage to Thakos by Sylae Correll Oops by Dintiradan Sorcerer's Apprentice by Niemand Strange Gildra by B.J. Earles The Triple Valley by Iffy Waterweb by Handyman Judges for this Category: Bain-Ihrno, Tyranicus, Lazarus Remaining Eligible Scenarios You have until December 1st to declare that your scenario will be in the contest, otherwise it will be assumed you do not want to enter. Always On Your Day Off! by Nicothodes * Beechford by M Haensel * Enemy at the Gates by Metatron * HIM: Wolf at the Door by Thralni Nobody's Heroes by Kelandon The Staff by Slack * (* = eligible for Best Newcomer Scenario) Also note: The Crusaders and Pilgrimage to Thakos are the only BoE scenarios on this whole list.
  10. Why don't you set it up at your earliest convenience, if you'd prefer to wait until all the entries are submitted, that's fine. So far the only judges are me and Tyran.
  11. We have 11 scenarios in the contest, and 11 potential entries. If you have not declared your intentions by the deadline, it will be assumed you're not entering. FYI. If you'd like to hunt down people and ask whether they want to enter, please be my guest.
  12. The contest is about a month away now, or a little more than that, but I think I'm going to go ahead and hire judges now. The requirement to judge is simply that you have a registered copy of Blades of Avernum. Blades of Exile is free and open-source now, so obtaining a copy shouldn't be too difficult. However, if you want to judge but really can't stand the engine of BoE, let me know and we'll work something out. There will be two categories in the contest, one will be 'newcomers', or people who are entering for the first time, and there will be one category for the rest. If you have a scenario entered in one of these categories, you are still eligible to judge the rest. My hope is that if you sign up, that you'll stick around to judge the Best Scenario Round. Your job as a judge will be to score the scenario from 1 to 10, with 10 being the best. The top scenario in your category is the winner of the category, and advances to Best Scenario Judging. Any scenario within 80% of the score also advances. Best Scenario judging is done through a list of best to weakest scenarios out of the ones that advance. If your scenario advances, and you still want to judge Best Scenario, the scores will be computed in such a way that the rankings won't affect your own scenario. The deadline is December 1st, so if you're judging, you have December 2nd to December 31st to complete the judging. The timeframe for Best Scenario judging will be decided on which and how many scenarios advance to Best Scenario. Please submit all judging to my Private Message box. Additionally, I will need a volunteer to make a website where people can download the scenarios in the contest. This is just to make sure judges don't have to run around to find stuff and that we're all playing the right version of the scenario. I no longer have a website, so I can't do this myself. If you have any questions, please ask. You may sign up in this thread.
  13. It was quick, had very little diversity in terms of fights, and there seemed little to it. Basically, there's two wizards at war, one is Good and the other is Evil, and you must defeat the Evil one. There was potential for an interesting conflict, but it turned out to be too simple. 14. PtT is on the BoE ranking forum, just buried. List is updated.
  15. Just a reminder, two months to go! I started a BoA scenario, but I can't get into the scripting unfortunately, so it isn't likely to happen. So far, the categories will include General Entries and Newcomers. General Entries include: The Crusaders (BoE), The Eternal, Warp, and Siege of Copperpeak. Newcomers include: Waterweb, Sorcerer's Apprentice, and Melliput Mobsters. Just FYI.
  16. (**Spoilers**) It was a somewhat interesting scenario, with a reasonably engaging, if simplistic plot. It has some interesting twists. The combat I found to be pretty decent, although it's basically generic monsters. A lot of the space seemed pretty unnecessary, but on the other hand, it's good for people who want a little extra to do in the scenario. That being said, if I ever finish my BoA scenario, I can guarantee it will be a pretty basic scenario too, so I should expect what I dish myself. One thing does trouble me however, the King and Queen seem okay with the fact you killed their son. Yes, he's a traitor, but he's still their son. He also didn't really have any motives. 17. Lord of the Rings: Everything Pan's Labyrinth: Everything 25th Hour: the F scene, and the finale Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1: Opening Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2: Snape's memories Star Wars: "I am your father" To Kill a Mockingbird: The Trial More as I think of them

  19. This has been asked before, I know, but I'd like to see what everyone's favorite's now are. I'll start: Lord of the Rings Trilogy Pan's Labyrinth Honorable mentions: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 Star Wars: The Original Trilogy Batman Begins 25th Hour Vera Drake No Country for Old Men Laura Come and See (which I didn't enjoy, but was very powerful)
  20. Thanks everyone. Where could I find some artwork to use in the intro screens? I don't want to violate copyright laws.
  21. So, I'm *gasp* starting a BoA scenario with the 3D Editor, which I'm only working on the town/outdoor layouts so far. Is there any kind of guide you can point me to in regards to using the 3D Editor and designing in BoA in general? I've noticed that I can't seem to use anything other than what the editor has provided me with. Not that it's mandated for the purposes of this scenario, but I'd still like to know. Also, can someone point me to a graphics file so I know the scenario pic numbers? Thanks.
  22. Would Formello improve for you if the Empire decided to have food trade agreements with Avernum?
