  1. Strange, I found the battle challenging, but I could beat it on first try on normal without even using items.
  2. Yeah, I also hate that all the high budget modern WRPGs all have "FPS" combat. But there is a kickstarter! http://www.kickstart...s-of-nethermore
  3. An auto-journal that automatically writes down regions you can't reach yet (magic barriers or picklock skill not high enough or not enough herbalism, etc.) would be really nice.
  4. Adze Haakai is that demon in the magic tower, isn't he? Then you should do that quest first. This quest should actually be done already once you have the demon slayer. ;-) Don't have the demon slayer? You missed something! Next, I recommend going for Grah Hoth (wasn't that his name?). Then find an escape route, no hard boss, but the final map is fairly challenging. Finally kill Hawthorne - keep hardest for last. :-)
  5. Avernum: Escape From The Pit is definately the best spiderweb game by a large margin. For me at least. The other were just good, but Escape From the Pit fascinated me so much that I had to play it several hours every day.
  6. And there he did. I was kind of surprised that there was no announcement about it here at all.
  7. On a sidenote, Craig says the release date is October 30th. http://indierpgs.com/2013/10/avadon-2-for-windows-release-date/
  8. I like music in video games, often a reason I prefer JRPGs over WRPGs despite latter exceling in gameplay. I also miss it that Spiderweb games don't have music. I have to use Winamp and randomly play through my MP3s to have some kind of music, but that kind of ruins the mood because the music doesn't fit the situation of course.
  9. I also have a hard time understanding how anyone could like Mass Effect at all. It's so boring. Mass Effect 1 puts you in a huge town right at the start with hundreds of sidequests to do which are all incredibly boring and involve no action at all. If you survive those tedious 6 hours and the real game actually starts it's a bit better, though. Still feels mostly linear rather than the promised open world exploration. Side planets usually are just empty or involve finding a small base with rebels, but nothing really with a story or anything. Mass Effect 2 is even worse. That whole mining for resources is really really really tiresome, also the game is so incredibly predicting... just... get party members. That's what the whole is about. Fly to a planet, get party member, select next planet. Also that game has limited ammunition and is more like a shooter rather than an RPG, I really hated this game from the bottom of my heart. It's in the top 10 of my most hated games. Mass Effect 3 I didn't even bother to get. I also share the same sentiment that RPGs lately have been pretty much garbage. The only exceptions are smaller Indie RPGs that occasionally surprise me with how good they are (despite often being free!).
  10. I'm not sure how many people would actually do something in real life just because all consequences are removed. If murder was legal, would you actually go out and kill someone in real life?
  11. Really depends on category for me. Overall, Avernum Escape From The Pit is my favorite game so far. Then comes Nethergate. Then probably Avadon. GeneForge... I really like the setting, but I dislike the gameplay. I prefer playing with a group of heroes rather than being a summoner. So if we are talking series gameplay-wise, I'd say Avernum as it went the longest way improving. Best series setting-wise could very well be GeneForge.
  12. I always try to solve everything without violence, but sometimes NPCs are just too stubborn and you can't make everyone happy and rather to risk one of them sending people to assassinate you because you deliver that rare artifact to someone else instead and so you better kill them to be sure. Or you hear they are from the Empire and then just kill them because of course everyone from the Empire must be evil and NPCs don't lie.
  13. This song reminds me of Spiderweb games: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Y05TDInaeU Lyrics: http://lyrics.wikia.com/Machinae_Supremacy:Indiscriminate_Murder_Is_Counter-Productive Discuss!
  14. You won't actually need it for the medal. I think there are 20 spells and you only need to max 16 of them for the medal.
  15. Well strategy central doesn't really link to any thread with useful build suggestions (for Avalon).
  16. I agree that this forum has too many spoilers. I always come here because I want to learn about viable builds before starting to play as well as figuring out what items to keep for quests and then I usually end up knowing the whole game before I even played it... Which is a bummer because the games are more interesting if you don't know anything about them except for how to build your character.
  17. Does it make sense to put 1-2 points into STR to be able to equip better (and more) equips earlier? I'm thinking of getting 1-2 points in STR and then go 2:1 DEX/END after that. I think I'll go for the left/middle columns to level 6 version since I like offensive skills (not a big fan of status changes) and only plan to play through the game once (so I rather see a wide variety in skills rather than having one very powerful version) and play on Normal difficulty. Also it makes it much easier to decide what build to go for as the options are quite limited like that.
  18. Isn't it a problem without any melee fighter? Ranged classes can't attack when next to an enemy after all. From what I understand a mix of Str and Dex is a bad idea, right? So I need to decide for one. So it's either getting all skills to 6 (middle+left or middle+right) or skip out on the top tier skill and get all to 8?
  19. Hi there! I have a doubt on how to build my characters and I couldn't really find any guides on it. First of all as I understand to raise a skill on a higher tier all the below tier skills need to be higher. That means if I want to max one of the two top tier skill I would need to max the 7 skills below it that are connected to it. But maxing one of the requires 9 skill points, so it's impossible! So how can you even get the top tier skill? Can someone post a screenshot of his character builds at the end of the game? Also I know Shamans should get Int and End. How about Blademaster and Shadowwalker? Should both get Dex/End? Does that mean I need to focus on ranged weapons? Or should one of the two go Str/End and become tank? Or am I supposed to go with a mix of Str/Dex/End?
  20. So if I use it after level 4, it will be correct?
  21. There is a small error in the editor it seems. When I use the retrain feature my stats will change. It seems that it starts with "endurance" rather than "strength" as bonus. For example a level 2 Nathalie usually has 4 Str, 4 Dex, 4 Int, 4 End by default (no points distributed), but when I use retrain at the editor it changes to 3 Str, 4 Dex, 4 Int, 5 End. Edit: Interesting, the same bug happens when I use the retrain cheat.
  22. There's quite a huge fanbase by now, which increased again with the Humble Bundle, it's just that the majority doesn't feel the need to post on forums when they currently don't play. Many are waiting for Avalon 2 and I think even more are waiting for the remakes of Avernum 2 and 3 (from my personal feeling Avernum - Escape From The Pit is the most popular game).
  23. Are you sure? Aren't there only 5 servant minds and 2 of them are dead when you reach them and you can find 3 nutrients? I haven't finished the game so there might be more servant minds, though!
