Fledgling Fyora Lalindo
Is there an editor for G5?
Hatchling Cockatrice Alorael at Large
No. —Alorael, who believes you are welcome to make one. How do you feel about scripting?
Fledgling Fyora Lalindo
I feel that it is rather tedious, and wanted to find out if there was one before I started.
Fledgling Fyora Lalindo
Also, it would be nice to know a teeny bit more about it before i start. Any ideas on places to learn about that sort of thing? I'm perfectly willing to put the time into it.
Magnificent Ornk Aran
Earlier versions of Geneforge, A4 and probably also G5, use a scripting language that looks like AvernumScript. The engines differ enormously, but the syntax appears to be the same. AvernumScript is well-documented in the manual for Blades of Avernum. You may be able to pick up the differences by looking at the scripts that came with G5.
Articulate Vlish Ohtar
It's also not too hard to puzzle out after playing the game a little. I'd never looked at AvernumScript in my life, and I was able to change the geneforge in GF5 to have the same effect as the Geneforge in GF1. Ineffable Wingbolt Aequitas
I have the code from my old GF4 editor, and I have the time and patience to create an editor for GF5. Problem: My GF4 editor was based on the crude editor that ET had originally created. I don't know how to create an editor from scratch. If someone were to set up a signpost or similar object to act as the access point, I could do the rest. I can't figure out how to get a signpost to have more than the one conversation point. Fledgling Fyora Lalindo
I experimented with an editor in G4 and all I had to do was look at the part that said nextstate = whatever for the sign, and have the first state = whatever for the editor to the same number. It just took me a while, because I had no idea what I was doing.
Garrulous Glaahk The Knight Who Said Ni
So, did you manage to get it working for Geneforge 5? If so, please tell me what steps you took in which dialog script to get it. -Master Aldrews
Rotghroth Rhapsody Locmaar
Here are a couple of tips for editing your character: 1) Search the scripts for encounters where you are rewarded (stats, items, whatever) 2) Browse the appropriate script for item numbers (stat numbers you have to do research for - it's tedious but possible) 3) Apply whatever you want as a reward for any quest and you'll get it (if you reward yourself in the script - please, backup first) 4) If you're wondering why I'm not posting scripts - I feel it destroys too much of gameplay and fun to be had. You want to be an unkillable superhero? Work it out!
Well-Actually War Trall The Ratt
Actually, unless the stat numbers are different for encounters/trainers, the stat list is in the Strategy Central under scripting information.
