Kyshakk Koan Ghaldring
1. That campy 'Rarrgghh!' sound when you cast battle rage in Nethergate: Original. 2. Lance of Flame and the beams shot by the Crystal Wands looked like an actual lances in the original, instead of the gimpy orange ball in Nethergate: Resurrection. 3. The Blessing Pool mechanics were better in Nethergate: Original. 4. You can select as many beneficial traits as you want in Nethergate: Original, whereas you are limited to two in Resurrection. 5. Celts can't wear chain mail in the Original, which helps to offset their massive advantage in magic. 6. It's harder for Romans to obtain high level spells in the Original, remaining more true to the idea of a Roman who has trouble drawing from the magic of the Vale. 7. Magic items seem more scarce in Nethergate: Original. 8. Disease did more than just draining your hit points and energy points. 9. The sprite you can summon in the Original is slightly more useful, as it can cast some staple spells. 10. Javelins which miss the target can be reused, making them slightly more tolerable. 11. The 'Create Food' spell actually has a use in the Original. Continue...
Understated Ur-Drakon Tyranicus
Don't forget the creature graphics. Also, Hero of Old was awesome in the original. it sucks in N:R.
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
6. Romans have less spells period in the remake. Jeff really nerfed their druid abilities after seeing how powerful a full Roman druid can be. They still are. The original did require the Roman druids to wander around in druid robes or togas so that kept it interesting.
Kyshakk Koan Ghaldring
Randomizer: Quote: 6. Romans have less spells period in the remake. ??? In Resurrection, Romans can purchase levels in all of the circles, and the game is littered with items that can add to the spell circles. Then there's that all circle scroll on Raven. Magnificent Ornk nikki.
Shadows! I can't over-emphasise this enough, but one of the things that made Nethergate unique was the fact that it is the only SW game with shadows. It really makes all the difference. Also, the skill point system was inspired. Not levelling up, but instead just making your abilities better was awesome, it fitted with the game very well, and I love the little plink sound. And, Pearlblossom. I know she comes back in N:R., but that's just a message_dialog() call with a bit of text. In Nethergate it was actual dialogue, which meant you could ask her questions using the talk engine. And that meant many frustrated hours trying to figure out the right keyword to ask her to make her better.
Well-Actually War Trall Ishad Nha
Certain terrain graphics in the original were inspired whereas the remake simply uses recycled Avernum graphics. Town graphics for Nethergate were the best Jeff has done. You had a wooden stockade wall and buildings in the same graphic. If you want to use the original Nethergate graphics in the remake, the freeware program Reshack is the ticket here. This program will enable you to copy one graphic at a time. Then you can paste it into a blank Bitmap.
Well-Actually War Trall Sarachim
Did anyone else have a pet theory about what happened to Pearlblossom's earrings? Mine was that Manius Volta took them.
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
There is some text about Manius Volta obtaining an item from Castle Aethdoc that implies he got the earrings from the real thief. Of course there is no way to relay the information to anyone to get them back.
