Garrulous Glaahk Lepus timidus
The listed statistics for this armour seem awesome, but I've read elsewhere that it has 'unmentioned negative effects'. What are these unmentioned effects?
Hatchling Cockatrice Alorael at Large
I can't remember what the disadvantage is, actually, but I remember it being hefty enough that I never used the armor. At least one of the Xian items acts like Uranium and randomly diseases your party. —Alorael, who wouldn't have skipped good armor over a little inconvenience like disease. It's probably worse than that.
Garrulous Glaahk Lepus timidus
Yeah, the occasional disease can be dealt with. Drat. Doesn't anyone have the stats for this armour?
Well-Actually War Trall Ishad Nha
The Xian items are all junk as I recall. They may do this or that but there is always a negative effect which outweighs any possible benefit. The Xian Chainmail weighs 45lb but has no apparent encumbrance and it blocks 1-40 + 6 damage. So far so good, then what is wrong with it? In between Drakefyre's list of Avernum 3 items and the Character Editor you can examine any item at all. Articulate Vlish Maledictis
Not all the Xian items were awful. The pants could have some limited use (-1 STR, DEX, INT, +4 LUK, blocks 1-8) if they weren't so friggin' heavy, the coins only takes up inventory space, the rock... Well, spawns rocks. Occasionally, valuable rocks. The book is nice to peruse. The ale can bless you on occasion, which outweighs the drunkenness. The skull is a talking skull, and it wants to be your friend. The plant... Well, it's a waste of space. I don't know about the chainmail. The vest is bad. Ditto for the pouch, unless you like to gamble with acid. And that's all of 'em, I think... Well-Actually War Trall Ishad Nha
For masochists, Drakefyre's site reports that the Editor numbers are: 414 Xian Skull 415 Xian Coins 416 Xian Vest 417 Xian Slacks 418 Xian Rock 419 Xian Ale 420 Xian Shrub 421 Xian Tome 422 Xian Chainmail 423 Xian Pouch The Chainmail has an "Inherent Ability", I dread to think what that is. Unflappable Drayk Jeran Korak
Thats odd, I've got all but the last three which I've never seen. were can I find the last three without cheating?
Magnificent Ornk nikki.
The Tome, IIRC is in the Tower of the Magi.
Understated Ur-Drakon The Almighty Doer of Stuff
The Xian Tome is indeed in the Tower of Magi. The Xian Chainmail changes a few dialogue responses if you're wearing it, most notably from Solberg, who tells the party about a dungeon you won't otherwise find... Unflappable Drayk Toby-Linn
Copied and pasted from Relle's Avenum 3 Walkthrough (which I could not live without, btw) ***start quote "These are items created by X and sent to the surface (most of them, at least) with the first Avernite spy team. Unfortunately, most of that team died. The items live on, however. Not all of them are useful. Most of them only serve to take up space. However, they're very unusual and unique items, so I thought they deserved their own space. Xian Ale - This is found among the loot held by the ogre who's taken over the dryad's grove. It will make your entire party inebriated (drunk) and once in a while, bless everyone as well, negating the negative effects. Xian Chain Mail - This is behind a cracked wall in the southeastern corner of the Upper Golem Factory. You'll need Move Mountains to reach it. It's strong, but it comes with several unmentioned negative stat effects. Either store it somewhere or sell it, but don't try wearing it. Xian Coins - The reward for completing the quest Find Mundt. They'll give you a few coins every now and then. Xian Pouch - In the Sacred Booty room in the Cavern of Giants, where you find the Barrier Tunnel map. It will leak hazardous effects, mostly disease, slow, and paralysis. Xian Rock - Found in the Hermit's Hut in Midori province. This is the same hermit who teaches the Ritual of Sanctification. If used as a missile weapon, this rock automatically returns to the wielder. It will also occasionally spawn regular rocks in your inventory. Xian Shrub - Found in the Sharimik storerooms. It requires Unlock Doors at level 3 or a very high tool use. It will basically cause plants to replicate in your inventory. Xian Slacks - This is in one of the giant villages in the Midori province, west of Dellston. The slacks give a great bonus to luck, but a penalty to your base stats. Xian Skull - Found in an ogre circle in southeast Valorim. Makes random messages pop up from time to time. Xian Tome - Found in the southwestern most room in the Tower of the Magi, in a desk. This merely cycles through all the regular books of the game. A fun diversion, especially the Tearing of the Bodice. Yum. Xian Vest - In the very northeastern corner of Valorim is a man who will sell you this for 5000 coins. You can kill him instead, but just pay him if you can. The vest has high resistance, but some serious stat penalties. Not worth the money, or the merchant's life." ***end quote. As for me, I think I sold all the Xian items when I found them...why don't you trying wearing the chainmail so you can tell us what the negative effects are?
