Maybe it's meant to be the way the squatters got in...though if so, they didn't leave that way. They don't need to go near the sentinels at all if that spot is the place where they got in. All they'd need is a secret route to it that the PCs never find. Dikiyoba imagined them coming in via one of the underground cliffs somewhere to the northeast of their camp. Dikiyoba doesn't remember which zone the cliffs are underneath, though.
