  1. Welll, I agree with general principle, but I am afraid spiderweb games, brilliant though they are, are very far from this aspect. Of course, your mileage may vary.
  2. Kiddies who want to LARP, eh. What's the next silly thing they will do, I wonder. Play a computer game as Wizards, Shamans or Warriors perhaps. Crazy and immature, I say.
  3. While I really like the idea of Pact, the more I play the game, the more I feel the cultures included are just not ready for such otherwise desirable unification. They cling too much to their distinct traditions and identities to form a stable amalgam - the only thing that unites them is fear of the Farlands and even that just barely. Like real civilizations of old, they probably have to massacre each other first for a few more centuries before they morph into something else. Alternatively, they could be subjugated by force and slowly smoothe their differences under cultural onslaught of a dominant empire. Haven't been to Tawon in Avadon 2 yet, so can't yet say I am Team Tawon, lol Also, Redbeard is a problem. I like him and consider him competent, but I am a vehement opponent of one-man, barely accountable centers of power. Even the most benevolent king or dictator will eventually get tired, start making mistakes, develop severe blind spots and drown in a coterie of yes-men. Keeper should be limited to terms and Avadon as an institution should be less dependent on his or her person.

What the hell, it is explicitly set to "anyone with the link. no sign-in required". I just double checked. I can view it even when I am signed out.
  5. EVERY time I play an RPG I end up with a huge pile of useless scrolls, potions, wands, Spiderweb games including. Yahtzee of Zero Punctuation pictured it nicely once: "fighting a giant crab by throwing peanuts at it and not using any consumables, just in case there is a bigger giant crab behind the corner."

Aw, shucks. I will just edit the dice out, then, to avoid confusion. I really don't want to test weapons now

    Skills

I do not powergame, really. But I like to know what stats affect what skills etc. and Jeff, lovable though he is, can't transparency. So instead of, you know, playing the game, I did some testing&spreadsheet sudoku and got the numbers for skills. There might be minor errors, though I doubt it. If anyone knows how to elegantly import a spreadsheet into the forums, I would be grateful. Skill damage progression: https://docs.google....YXc If the above link does not work for whatever reason, Nikki has kindly provided a mirror: http://nikkis-nook.h...age Scaling.pdf Some observations (some things same as in A:tBF): * Earthquake gets upgraded to Earthshatter at skill level 3, damage-wise. Tested step by step. * Icy Lance gets weapon damage from equipped bow, for some reason. * It is rather pointless to put points in damage skills that go only to 4, as they don't get the massive bonus above 6. * Shaman isn't that bad, despite having to split his stats, because his higher skills get higher dice than Sorcerer. * Many skills don't get weapon bonus despite sounding like they should.
  8. I agree that reviving characters shouldn't be so easy. Then again, I don't use the "run, revive, get back" tactic, so it is not an issue for me.
  9. You mean some fight with Miranda in Avadon 1? I don't remember it at the moment but I certainly didn't attack her one on one, I used 3 characters
  10. You mean in Avadon 2? Thanks for the spoiler alert, mate.
  11. Lol, I am kind of happy I never read Avadon forums when I was playing the first game, because I was mainly using a blademaster, a melee shadowalker (I know!) and a spellcaster. Finished it on torment, had fun, came to forums, learned that melee is "useless"
  12. Attrition used to be "solved" by doing a trip to town. End effect was roughly the same, it was just much more tedious. I agree the individual fights should be tougher, though. At my early point of the game I don't even have to drop turrets to crush everyone (torment ofc). Geneforge and Avernum:EftP were much more brutal even when fighting "trash" mobs. I suppose it's just that wretches and wolves are less interesting and they don't stun, deploy acid, poison etc. That's the problem, not autohealing.
  13. Autohealing is MUCH better than trudging back to town all the time. It allows for balancing the game on a per-battle basis. I am all for it.
  14. That's what I fugured. Backtoavadon would break the game. Then again it could still be there, for use at your risk.
  15. He has already introduced "large font" option in the settings. Which is a godsend, because now I only have to scale down to 1600x900 instead of 720p. Still, I wish he investigated this matter further in his future games.
  16. Randomizer, did anyone, perchance, make a skill spreadsheet? Base, dice, etc.?
  17. He could always remake it! Not that he evel will, seeing as remaking Geneforge will last him next two decades.
  18. Fun fact: Shaman's secondary heal skill - the second in the right tree - costs no fatigue.
  19. Proper UI scaling please! Jeff already introduced "bigger font" option and it helps a LOT. But many things are still too small in 1080p and strain my eyes.
  20. THANKFULLY the first portal pylon in the Contested Lands is close to the edge of the map and can be easily used for refreshing oneself. Avadon 1 had me trudging half the map each time I wanted to get to a pylon and I positively hated it.
  21. Played a bit with Avernum 2 and I suppose I will just wait for a remake. Then again, if I finally make myself play Nethergate, I just might try A2, seeing as it is the same engine and all.
  22. Yeah, it annoys me a bit too. Though, if Avadon 1 was any indication, it will get better once I get more gear. This is feature, not a bug Jeff said somewhere he doesn't like music in his games, so I had no such expectations. If silence is really painful to you, you can always play some music in the background - I believe there were even threads in those very forums dedicated to music people choose while playing Spiderweb games.
  23. I keep seeing "Challenged!" over enemies in range of the skill. I cannot say for certain it works, but it does seem they switch their targeting onto the blademaster. They do switch to something else if it hits them, though.
  24. Oh I don't doubt it, but it could get harder a bit faster. I remember in AEftP, I left Fort Avernum, went a little bit north and saw a lone lost slith wandering around. Okay, I thought, let's kill it and take its equi...OH MY GOD IT IS UNSTOPPABLE RUN RUUUN Of course, it was an open world. But there could be more murderwolflizardspiders waiting in off-path caves for you to come back later.
